Trip's alot more like Drew from Advanced Generation: he's a composed rival but with a variety of actual emotions shown (in addition to grumpy, angry, and smug, we've seen him happy, surprised, confused, depressed, etc.) Here's my personal favorite example.

Yeah I like that picture too. It always makes me laugh. However, I hope that with this new rival showing up that Trip would be over shadowed or thrown off due to fan hate. I like his floating Pokemon and I like that his might get a Serperior since Snivy might not evolve anytime soon. I thought that was a small rivalry for Snivy to have against him.

We don't know if this supposed new rival will be a recurring rival or not, if he'll be "replacing" Trip, Bianca, or Stephan, or even if it wasn't just a mistranslation. Because honestly, if Ash was getting a major new rival, you'd think he'd be promoted more. I mean, they've shown us Cynthia, Dawn, and Giovanni, and Alder and Caitlin have at least gotten their names dropped. We've got nothing on the new rival other than the announcement that (supposedly) Ash will have one!
