With the reveal of Tapu Koko today and it seemingly having a connection with Hala as it seemed like he was the one who summoned it down, I was thinking could the elite four of this region all come from different islands and possibly use the deity of their respective island with Hala being one of the elite four members possibly an electric type user

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this before, but I hope Phoebe makes an appearance.

With Charjabug, Vikavolt and Togerodentwhatever, may we see an Electric-type first gym? Tapu Toko (sp?) is the deity of the first island, and it's Electric-type as well. It would fit the islands culture. Aside from those four new Electric-types, we also know that Hau uses a Pichu against you and that Pikachu is available on the first route. This very much hints towards the first gym being Electric-typed, though obviously, there's no confirmation yet. Oh, and there isn't a Rotom in your pokédex for no reason. Melemele really is focused on their Electric-types.

Electric also has no weaknesses to Grass/Fire/Water, and would just be super-effective against Popplio. Which isn't a bad thing, as most first gyms have a type they're strong against (Rock x3 > Fire, Flying > Grass, Bug > Grass), it's time for Water to be considered as the hard-level for once.

That being said, Bug/Electric and Electric/Steel would make it very easy for Litten users, while Popplio users are toast and Rowlet users are walled completely.. Hmm...

Edit: Togehedghog might not be on the first island.. It's Electric/Steel-combination makes it seem as if it would be at a construction site or something.. like that rocky terrain in the south east of the icemountain island.

While I do think that Electric is a very possible choice, I'd like to point out that Rotom isn't really a hint because shoving anything other than it in a Pokédex may result in a second coat of red paint on it.

Although I personally hope it means that one member of the Elite 4 will be from Melemele and that the E4 represents the islands and their types, hence, an Electric-Type Elite.

I so hope it's true. Maybe we'll have to travel to defeat the Elite Four, much like we would gym leaders.

So basically we would have four extra gyms, and no challenge of battling the Elite Four consecutively with no healing. I'm not really a fan of that idea.

'No healing'

Like literally everyone has Full Restored and Revives for days man, it wouldn't make too much of a difference-especially from Gen VI-except PP.

But you have to buy a sufficiant stock of those and could run out if you don't sufficiently supply yourself. A free Pokemon Center whenever you want is a different level of ease. You've got to admit that separating the Elite 4 like that basically just makes them extra gym leaders, right?

Not if the conditions are different.

When you enter a gym, you can leave whenever you want to. The same won't be for the Elite Four, even if you have to travel. Once you enter a member's domain, you'll be stuck there until you defeat them or lose. If need be, accepting the Elite Four challenge could even restrict center access, though I'd hardly find that necessary.

If we'll be able to freely travel to Elite Four members, I expect the battles to be of sufficient difficulty.

I'm not seeing the difference.

It's also worth considering that melemele translates to the color yellow, which is most strongly associated with the electric type. Definitely doesn't confirm anything, but it could be some good additional evidence that the island has that connection.

With today's revelations, I think that the first gym should definitely be Electric. The leader can have a Charjabug and then a Togedimaru as their signature. And before anyone complains about it being too easy for Litten and too hard for Popplio, think of all the past first gym types. (With the first gym leaders in BW canceling each other out) Fire has been at a disadvantage three times, Grass two, and Water a big whopping total of zero times. So I think Water users can live with being disadvantaged this once.

What difference does being able to leave the gym make? If you're entering the place then you obviously intend to battle.

I agree with Bguy, I think separating them by island would essentially just make them powerful gym leaders. They could still give them a hometown on each island and give them a guardian or w/e, but having to travel to battle them kind of defeats the purpose of an Elite 4.

I reckon the champion could be a multi-type user and he/she would use the remaining types that the gym leaders and Elite Four didn't use. Still hoping for a Dragon user for gym leader, elite four or champion but I settle for the champion using one Dragon type.

It's interesting that it is stated how Hala is one of the strongest trainers of the region.

Like many of you said, I wonder if he is indeed one of the Elite 4 members who specialises in electric types. If this is the case, is it safe to assume that the other three elite four members will specialise in fire, water and grass. Since some research behind Tapu Koko states it is based on the guardian Ku and the other three are based on the elements I listed. Perhaps like many of you have said, each island is 'lead' or 'monitored' by an Elite Four member.

If this is the case, what a great way To present members of the Elite Four as there are a quite a few who don't do much outside of the league.

Only source to my knowledge would be Exaggeration from when he was said to be a really strong trainer on the island (Melemele) at E3.

They said he was a very strong trainer on the island twice, but never anything about him being one of the strongest in the region.

Like others are speculating, I kind of hope the Elite 4 come from each of the 4 islands and use the guardians of each island on their team (finally a challening E4?). With that being said, it changes my original predictions..

Gyms:
1. Normal
2. Ground
3. Fairy
4. Flying
5. Ghost
6. Steel
7. Poison
8. Dark

E4:
Electric
Fire
Water
Grass

My Gym Predictions

1. Electric
2. Flying
3. Fire
4. Water
5. Psychic
6. Fighting
7. Steel
8. Ice

Elite Four
1. Bug
2. Poison
3. Rock
4. Fairy

Wait. Where was this mentioned?

E3. When Hala was introduced, the translator said he is a powerful trainer of this island and had to repeat by Ohmori's request to underline "very strong" trainer once again. However, it was the island, not the region, as far as I know.

Tapu Koko and Hala's relation makes me wonder if there is a possibility of Hala being an Elite Four member, specializing in Electric types, that someone mentioned back in the day about how the Elite Four could have representers from each island. Thinking of it now, it wouldn't be a bad idea.

It would also be nice to get to know the E4 members. instead of just meeting them for the first time at the league.
