If Hala was a gym leader, would he be using Grass types, seeing as Hala is a tree? Remember, their names always correspond to their typing.

Hala might be the GYM leader or Elite Four and that wouldn't surprise me. It is worth to mention Ohmori said he is a powerful trainer and made the translator repeat with: "A very powerful trainer of this island." for the second time. It is obvious they were underlining the importance and power of the character.

Ooooh. Things are getting more exciting.

I hope they revamp the Pokemon League. Like, get rid of Victory Road and instead, travel from one island to another to battle each Elite Four member in each island. :) Wishful thinking. Lol.

And I can totally see Hala as a gym leader.

I'm not sure about them using those deities, but I like the idea of having one from each island, where each is the best trainer on their respective islands. And maybe, because of this, they can help the player find/connect with the guardian or something like that. This also supports the idea of Hala as an E4 member, as he is described as the best trainer on the island (Melemele).

that'd be an interesting swing on the elite four if they weren't all waiting for you and you had to go to them, and there they hang out with a legendary pokemon, maybe not use them unless the region needs it.

Looking at the map and guess-timating where each gym may be located, these seem like plausible predictions:

1. Normal
2. Fighting
3. Bug
4. Water
5. Fire
6. Ghost
7. Poison
8. Electric/Steel/Ground

But many gym leaders have names associated with trees and plants.

However, Hala's name only really seems to refer to plants, whereas others tend to have double meanings.

I just want a male Fairy type specialist. >_>

I'm sure I posted that somewhere already, but the lack of male Fairy users in X and Y bugs me. :/ There is nothing wrong with guys using Fairy types.

I rather they didn't make a male character use a Fairy type. I am okay with both male and female for Dragon gym leaders, Elite Four and champion though.

Actually fairies interacted more with males in their myths, they gave weapons, they stole things... Or organs... Or their innocence from them, or needed to outright get slayed by hunters/travelers that dared to trick them.

The female and fairy relationship is very rare outside of miscarriage, children death or deal with the fairfolk stories, they only gained terrain after the 1900.

Why, exactly? Fairies aren't THAT girly.

There's nothing about fairy types that makes them inherently feminine, just look at granbull, Mr. Mime, or most fairy types for that matter. The same goes for any type; there's nothing so gendered about any of them that there shouldn't be specialists of both genders. To say otherwise, in my opinion, is to stereotype either a type or a gender beyond plausible reality.

I don't think it feels right for me. Sure there are some Fairy pokemon like Granbull that look tough but I still don't feel comfortable about it. This is just me though and they probably will give a male gym leader/elite four/champion the Fairy type regardless of how I feel about it.

The thing is though... in society, stereotypes do exist.. fairies are typically seen as girly, yes?
So from a marketing view, it'd still make sense for GF to design most Fairy types with this is mind and thus I'd disagree with you and say the majority of Fairy-tpes do have a certain femininity to them..

Dude what's girly about a female tricking a male to eat him in their wedding bed?(Mawile)

What's feminine about one of the best approaches medicine had during the dark ages, or the myth surrounding the plague doctor's costume that it brought dead with him?(Aromatisse)

What's girly about ghost slugs piercing each other with love horns and the myths around slugs in Japan?(Ralts line)

Seriously, they are a bit of badasses.

Couldn't the same be said about fighting types and masculinity? And yet we have Maylene and Korrina. And as far as I can tell, the two main themes of fairy types are life/goodness and mythical/fairy tale (not just fairies themselves), neither of which are particularly feminine.

I agree we should have a male fairy type specialist. But it's been one gen (and more like 1 game given the other one is a remake) so I didn't really have an issue with X and Y having the trainer type and gym leader be female. And I think it's worth mentioning that out of the rivals Trevor is the one with the fairy type from the start. While the opposite gender doesn't get clefable till post game and could easily be a boy as well.

Why? What's wrong about a male being a fairy specialist? I'm a male and Fairy is my favourite type by a wide, wide margin.

A male fairy gym leader or elite for member does not have to be a camp stereotype, if that's what you are worried about.

Just going by myths and cultural association a male fairy gym leader could be fashioned after, among other things:

A knight (the Legend of Tam Lin)
A poet (the Romantic poets of the late 18th/early 19th century looooved fairies, look up the poem "La Belle Dame Sans Merci")
A classical musician/conductor (see above)
Some sort of other artist (the association of the struggling artist with the dangerous "Green Fairy")
A Houdini-type stage magician (it's the magic type)
A clown/circus inspired character (Fairies are whimsical)
Some sort of other performer or performance artist
A Myth Hunter/Paranormal Investigator
A New-Age Hippie
and those I just came up with without even thinking.

It is just my view of the type and who is using it. It is ultimately Game Freak's decision to give Fairy type to the male gym leader, Elite Four and/or Champion.
