I just a really interesting thought.

Even though there is a trial challenge in place of gyms, do you guys think there will still be a variant of the gym theme?

I mean, the gym theme is a staple of Pokémon music. I think it's still worth adding in a version for the trials, right?

I could totally see it for totem pokemon, that'd make the most sense. and then have a more intense one for the kahunas!

I don't mean a battle theme; I'm referring to the theme for gyms.

This theme has been in every generation since Gen 1, with Gen 2's version becoming the official basis for arrangement. This is the theme you hear when walking throughout a gym.

well then I'll retry:

Old dog, new tricks!
I'm now expecting the new fish to be a Totem pokemon in it's shoal form. Lana mentioned something about a pokemon causing a disturbance I think, and can you imagine finding a single Yowashi and it suddenly transforms into it's giant horror shark form.

I guess Aloan Maroak is a totem pokemon,as well as the lead pokemon for the fire captain?

We have arrived.

While possible, I just can't really see it being both, honestly..

Few points I'd like to discuss or have cleared up if I'm incorrect about the ideas I'm getting.

Firstly, One thing I'm curious about is if we battle the Trial Captains or not. As they're given type specialties in the trailer and main website, I'm pretty confident that they will be battleable at some point (Probably Post-game) yet the information seems to suggest a battle against them isn't part of the trial.

So at the moment I'm assuming the layout of the trials are:

Meet Trial Captain > Complete Trial > Report back to Trial Captain > ?Battle Trial Captain? > Battle Totem Pokemon > Repeat these steps until all Trials on island have been finished > Battle Island Kahuna > Move onto next island and repeat.

The bold text is indicative of the one stage of this formula I'm not quite sure whether we'll be doing or not.

Second, the idea of Sun and Moon being a less linear and more open game has been discussed since we discovered the region was based on Hawaii and is going to consist of multiple islands.
With the reveal of the Island Challenge as the main goal and objective of the game, I'm starting to find this more likely. I think (Or perhaps hope would be more accurate) that the various Trials on each island can be done in any order the player wishes, whereas the Kahuna is always the final challenge of the island.

Third, Has there been any word on how many Trial Captains there are? Seeing as GameFreak seem to be breaking away from the Gym Formula, I hope they go all the way and don't just give us eight Trial Captains and Four Kahunas, basically another Pokemon league scenario. Is one Trial Captain for each type too much to ask for? Or a least let us have a Dark specialist Trial Captain. Please GameFreak?

Lastly, overall the games nowadays seem to be getting easier and easier, I hope the trials offer a decent challenge and I'm really hoping the Kahunas are truly fiendish boss battles. As the final trial of each island, they represent the final challenge of each act of the story and Hala's pre-battle screen looks particularly epic, I'm really hoping GameFreak doesn't pull their punches with these bosses for once.

Pretty sure he wasn't reffering to thier only being one alolan Marowak, but that having fighting (featured) two in quick succession would be strange. There's more than one Mr Mime but there's a reason that olympia dosen't have one when Valerie does.

But Olympia and Valerie are two separate 'trials,' so to speak. Totem Marowak and Kiawe's Marowak would be in the same trial.

I mean, to be honest, with Vikavolt most likely being a Totem Pokémon, I wouldn't be surprised if Sophocles also had one.

the Japanese site confirms that there are more than four captains and Gumshoos was confirmed to be a totem for a trial we haven't seen the captain for, so that pushes us to at least five. i can see maybe twelve captains total, but i really don't see Game Freak doing one Captain for each type especially if you do battle the Captains.

Is Kiawe the first pokemon character with tattoos, or am I forgetting a bunch of peeps?

Now that Marowak is confirmed to have an Alola form, the Fire trial captain is no doubt using it since it is mention he had one.

Yes, I think everyone here will agree with you on that! :D

Just waiting to see now if Mallow will have Alolan Exeggutor and Sophocles has Alolan Raichu...

Depends when we fight them really, Raichu I think is quite possible (though mainly cause I don't really know where he would be) but I don't think exeggutor would work for Mallow from my predictions of the basic plotpath. Marowak has quite a low BST and remains so compared to Exeggutor (and my guess is that Kiawe comes after Mallow) plus I think thst they wouldn't want to overshadow Totem Lurantis.

It’s been a while
So given that Wishiwashi is confirmed, I think it will be the Water Island's Totem Pokémon. Given the fact that the whole Totem Pokémon deal is that it will call on other Pokémon to its aid I can see Wishiwashi as the final Totem challenge because it will call on other smaller Wishiwashi with activated Schooling ability. Now I wonder what the actual other two Totem Pokémon were, but hopefully one of them is Wishiwashi.
Since Alolan Marowak is Kiawe's Pokémon I think it's safe to say there will be a different Totem Pokémon.

He better have an Inkay or I'm rioting.

Lol, I'd think the Bikers in Alola would have Inkay tattoo pens/guns for their markings.
