The RPG Pokemon League

You stare at the towering building before you, then down to the 8 gym badges in your hand.

"Well, this is it.." you think to yourself.

For the past year or so you've been travelling around Kanto, Johto or Hoenn, battling at gyms to collect the gym badges. And now, you're finally at your goal, the Pokemon League. You draw a deep breath and step into the carvernous lobby and realise its packed with people. You manage to push and shove to reach the receptionist.

"Hello!" she chimes. "Here's a form for your registration. You can fill it in over there. We hope to see you soon!"

"Trainers are reminded that only a maximum of six pokemon can be registered for the Pokemon League. Trainers may not alter their team once they enter the Pokemon League." read the form. Walking over to the computer you ponder at the pokemon you would take with you. Pulling a pen from your jacket you begin filling in the registration form.

The plot:
You play a pokemon trainer who is about to enter the pokemon league. You may choose a team of up to 6 pokemon of any evolutionary stage, excluding legendaries.

The twist of this RPG is that trainers will be competing each other based on their RPing skills. That's right, how well you can role play. Trainers will write 1 post on 1 full battle. They will describe all attacks that their pokemon uses as well as their opponent's pokemon. Trainers may make use of the arena to their advantage and they will post on how they win the battle. This means that 2 entirely different battle posts will be given for a match. Judges will then give a score to each player at the end of their post, the total points from all judges will determine the winner of that battle. Judges will judge posts based on how balanced a trainer is, (which means even if your Dragonite 'pummels' the poor Pikachu, you may not win), how creative the post is, how innovative the trainer is (eg. using the arena to his advantage), etc.

For those who need an example:

Refree posts: Trainer War vs. Trainer Forge.
The trainers looked out at the sandy battle field and braced themselves for their first battle. The arena looked tough with rocky terrain and a lone pool of water in the middle of it. "Each trainer will be using 2 pokemon each!" yelled Refree Cheese.

War posts: The arena was bla... bla.. "Charmander! I choose you!" I shouted. .......... "Charmander, use flamethrower!" I said as my Charmander shot a stream of fire towards Forge's Squirtle. The squirtle ducked into his shell but it seemed to be hurt. .......... The squirtle returned with a water gun causing Charmander to yelp in pain. .......... "Tackle him!" I shouted. Charmander rammed the squirtle backwards, it slammed into a cliff face behind it and fainted.

Forge posts: I released my buddy Squirtle into the pool in the middle of the desert arena. "Use water pulse!" I yelled as squirtle summoned the water around him and directed it at the Charmander. The Charmander returned with a scratch attack and ........... "Finish the Charmander off with a Surf attack!" Squirtle ducked beneath the surface of the water and huge rising wave swept over the Charmander. I was victorious.

You get the idea? Well, type doesn't play a part in this RPG and neither does evolution stage. That means a puny Bulbasaur could beat a colossal Charizard. I repeat, you will be judged purely on the quality of your post!

I will be accepting unlimited number of trainers but only 4 more judges. Judges may not sign-up as players. I will be extremely strict when selecting judges so do not get offended if you are rejected. I will PM selected judges further information of judging.

Trainers will first battle each other in an elimination round. In the elimination round, trainers will be randomly paired with another trainer and the number of pokemon that will be used as well as the type of arena will be desribed to them. The winners of each match will move on to the finals. More information of the finals will be issued when the elimination round is over.

Right now, grab the form and sign up! Enjoy!

Trainer sign-up form
Name: (anything is fine but remember to include this with every post)
Gender: (*blinks* yeah like you don't know)
Age: (any age is fine, you could even play a really old grandma or something. be creative!)
Appearance: (so what DO you look like?)
Personality: (what kind of trainer are you like?)
Pokemon: (what will your team of 6 be? include nicknames if you can because it will make your posts easier. No legendaries!)
Other: (anything else I missed out?)

Applicant for judges may use the same sign-up form and you may even have your own pokemon (although you won't be using them). However, judges must include, together with their sign-up, a short post roleplaying your character in the initial scene that I have described. Be creative and you just might be accepted!

Ugh that stupid Seal of Approval icon ****s everyting up no matter where you put it n a post. Hmmph. Anyway, I've seen this done at TPM and taken part in it there, so I know how this works. Anyway i'll sign up as a trainer a little later. If you find you don't get many judges, then i'll swap roles.

FlamingRuby

The magic of Pokemon
Oh, sounds fun!

Name: Maya

Gender: female

Age: 18

Appearance: Maya has medium length brown hair usually tied back in a ponytail, but will also wear it down for special occasions. Her emerald green eyes sparkle with determination, courage, and eegerness to battle. She typically wears a tie-dye t-shirt, black jeans, and black shoes.

Personality: At first glance, Maya is a very friendly and laid back person that takes even bad news in stride. But put her in the arena and you'll have a very sneaky trainer on your hands! She plays off of her opponent's stratagy and counters with type advantages, turning most any strategy on its ear.

Pokemon: Persian (Serena), Dewgong (Amy), Ninetales (Raye), Pikachu (Lita), Pidgeot (Mina), Kadabra (Trista)

skiboydoggy

Ski > You
Name: Silver Keeran Evon Etherlight aka Ski
Age: 13
Gender: Male

Appearance: Having a family history which included witches, wizards, and everything in between, one would certainly not expect this trainer to be normal and get away with it would they? They were not disappoointed.
With ruby red orbs as eyes, and hair born completely silver, it was a known fact that no two of the Etherlight line ever kept the exact same traits. There had been others with red eyes, and many others with silver hair, but none had both, and it was a fact that each one of them were proud of. It made him feel like somebody out of his favourite RPGs.
Having heavily tanned skin from his intensive training, he looked menacing, and indeed was. Especially on the field of battle. Nonetheless, he had a beautiful smile and locks of hair that would make Sephiroth go to shame. Not that it was nearly as long of course, just better cared for.
Prefering a simple singlet and track pants during training sessions, in something as formal as the Pokemon League Championship however, Ski had come up with something much smarter, a gray T-shirt, a black vest, and red shorts that he used to complement his irregular body colourings.
Oh, and naturally, he was not made to be the tallest in the competition, being only thirteen and all, but he was an impressive height at the least, being about 1.7m tall. (Which would be um...5 ft something nearing 6 I believe.)

Personality: Extremely proud of his heritage and skills as a trainer, even to the point of arrogance, there was nobody in their right mind that would even try to cross Silver Etherlight twice. Nobody that did came out unscathed anyway, the usually reappeared about two days later heavily burnt and muttering something about ice and blood. Of course, they were overstating the facts a little, he only threatened them most of the time with a little lasting reminder never ever to laugh at him, or suffer his displeasure, which was quite nasty indeed.
As one would expect from a trainer, a cajoler, and a general shadowy figure, he was supremely intelligent, and knew it as well, which merely piled on upon his oversized ego that was practically waiting to be burst.
All this was common knowledge to those that had met him, but what one did not see, was that he was actually quite emotionally weak. His family pride brought him to do the said unthinkable things, simply because he had abandoned his self-pride long ago, alongside his old life when he started being a Pokemon trainer. Not that either of them were a hoot either, one bored him, and the other tired him out to no end.
Enjoying a good book and a rousing battle above all else, this was mostly all there was to Ski, a well of pity, cowardice and fear surrounded by a thick layer of ego, brutality, and history.

Pokemon:

[Alakazam]
[Cranio]

[Gengar]

Can I add on more later? If not than leave it like this. Tired... 2.30 am...

Zerodius

Eternally hating D/P
OFF: My character is weird, I know... but well, if it isn't accepted, I can always try again with a more conventionnal character...

________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Name: Zerodius Selvern

Gender: Male

Age: 24

Appearance: Black high-tech armor with an orange, opaque visor. Armor has a surprising amount of articulations ; it is just as flexible as a human body and as such, doesn't hamper his movement. The armor cover him completely ; not even a centimeter of flesh visible. Because of his heavy armor, Zerodius hates magnetic stuff (such as magnets) for an obvious reason. Despite his armor being quite bulky-looking, Zerodius is quite agile. Size of the armor is a bit above average, made for a medium build human male. Usually wear a dark red cape as well. Unstead of the Pokemon League symbol, Zerodius has an unique logo on his armor ; the letter "H" in a golden metallic font on a background that looks like some kind of silver mix between a mine and a saw.

Personality: Calm, has a strange sense of humour, confident but not arrogant. Zerodius is very confident in his skills and regard every battle as an experience. He is an extremely good winner and loser ; he respect the skills of those he defeat and he regard defeat as temporary and as a mean of having his mistakes exposed more clearly for him to correct.

Zerodius's sole major flaw may be that he is very merciless ; when in battle, he will NEVER back down and use every single dirty trick he may have to defeat his foe, bringing the fight to the opposing trainer by pushing them into unique "pick your poison" situations... some of which are extremely cruel. As such, trainers who fight Zerodius are taught a VERY harsh lesson of humility and strategy and will more often than not hold a grudge against him.

Pokemon: Ex Lightheart (Pichu), Fili Buster (Banette), Sergeant Drill (Armaldo), Rebidal Dud (Dragonite), Break Bruiser (Hariyama), Erdrick Helkan (Farfetch'd)

Other: Zerodius has a very strange background story behind him... and while the presence of a Pichu on Zerodius's team may seem strange... Ex is actually Zerodius's strongest Pokemon ; understimating her is out of question.

Night Terror
Name: Steed Richardson
Gender: Male
Age: 40
Appearance: He towers above at a massive six foot, four inches, but doesn't appear to be as frightening as he should be. His skin is of an average complextion, and is adorned with the wear and tear of life, along with a few pocks and small scars from various events in his past. He's got jet black hair, or he did, he's actually greying a bit, so it's got 'platinum highlights' as he likes to call them. He's got a strong build and good figure, retaining all his muscle and little to no fat. He's also got a jet black goatee.

He wears a pair of standard issue camouflage trousers, heavy duty, with a thick black belt holding them up. The ends are rolled over a pair of black boots, while he wears a long sleeved white t-shirt, and over that a sleeveless dark grey shirt. He has a pair of gloves, nothing special just regular working gloves, usually tucked into the back of his trousers. He looks younger than he is thanks to taking good care of himself.

Personality: Steed isn't like most people his age, he's got the heart and soul of a young man, and feels somewhat at home with the rest of the young people he meets as a pokemon trainer. While that may be, he's still old enough to expect a little respect from others the same as he gives to them. He gets grouchy if he's treated differently, and sometimes gets quite irritated and angry, but never takes it as far as violence. He's always determined to get things done, and get them done right, no matter how long it takes or how difficult it is.

Pokemon:

Shade (male) Crobat
Blitz (male) Blaziken
Solace (female) Misdreavus
Qoppa (genderless) Unown Q
Pinball (genderless) Magneton
Famine (female) Ninjask

Sample:
Steed stood by the large glass window staring out at the rain that was falling from the dark sky. Thunder rolled through the black clouds and the occasional flash of lightning illuminated the shadowed mountains. He sighed and turned away, looking back to see if the entry desk had been re-staffed. After arriving thirty minutes ago and finding no one on duty, he was beginning to get frustrated with the League organisers. Finally, a young man sat back behind the desk, casually drinking from a can of soda. Grabbing his soaking coat from the back of the chair, Steed approached the desk.

"Sorry for the wait sir, but two trainers started battling in the toilets and it's been a nightmare trying to get in to intervene."

Steed had to laugh to himself as the desk operator explained both trainers had released a Snorlax each at the same time in the small room and both ended up trapped in with little space to breathe let alone move.

"Anyway, can you please provide name, proof of identity and proof of skill." the boy said, tapping away on the computer.

Steed held out a drivers license labelled with his full name 'Steed Richardson', and also opened a smart case that was lined with a soft padding and eight badges from the Johto League.

"Johto League huh?" The boy said with mild surprise "I tried that one once, but it was too tough for me. Good job getting them all though, I heard that last Gym Leader is a tough nut to crack."

"Yes, she is that." Steed replied, thinking back to his epic battle with the Dragon Tamer Clair in her Gum surrounded by flowing lava. It was there that the last bond with his pokemon was made, and his first pokemon Zubat, finally evolved all the way into a Crobat. That had been a year ago, and now he was here offering his knowledge to the League as a representative judge.

"Ok that'll be all Mr. Richardson. If you'd like to go through the door on your left and wait in the lounge, you will be informed on your requirements just as soon as all the entry forms are processed.

Fire/Flying Trainer
Sounds cool...I hope I do well...

Name-Seth Turango
Age-15
Gender-Male
Appearance- He stands 6 feet tall with a black jacket always around him. He has a Messy Spike haired appearance and Hazel Eyes. His shirt is black with a pokemon that was with him a long time ago. He wears dark blue jeans with black shoes. He looks determined for anything that comes his way. He has a necklace around him with a pokeball as his major icon.
Personality-He likes to chat alot, whether on or off the playing field. He is always on the positvie side and takes no for an answer. During play he likes to make people think that, "Hey this guy is easy!" But strikes the opponent out with mass skills and talent. He is pretty much laid back and good to go.
Pokemon:
Tropius(Trops)
Lapras(Tsunami)
Charizard(Charster)
Salamence(Claws)
Ditto(Clone)
Espeon(Psy)

Lily

you were the one.
Since my other sign up attempt was not successful, I hope this one bodes well. ~~

Name: Anna Raloyn
Gender: female
Age: 21
Appearance: Petite, with a deceptive frail body, Anna stands at a reasonable height of 5'4, regarding her age and the heels of her shoes. Her eyes are emerald and her long hair is a deep, vivid shade of auburn, seemingly darker than it already is in contrast to her pale, porcelain skin. Wispy strands often brush past her face, although she usually ties it in in a plain fashion, explaining the limp figure of the hair. Her attire is nothing short of simple: a magenta top with trimmed frills lacing the sleeves, and a stark white skirt reaching slightly past her knees.
Personality: A polite, kind person at heart. Anna holds infinite (well, not really) patience and does things in an overall delicate matter. She is not prone on rushing things; in fact, Anna loves to take her time being analytic or carefully running over the situation. The best word to describe her would probably be freedom. Despite her soft disposition, she loves nothing more in the world but just to break away and weave a new story for her life. She is eager to try out something new, and she is the type of person to cherish all things in life in equalibrium. In battle, Anna will suppress emotions and immerse herself in apathy for the sole sake of not backing down out of sympathy, which is a particular flaw of her.
Pokemon:

Vaporeon - f (Meredy)
Pichu - m (Akari)
Jigglypuff - f (Dorei)
Primeape - m (Lex)
Houndoom - m (Remi)
Xatu - m (Mr. Keshne) don't ask <<;;

Other: Akari couldn't evolve 'cause it was a very..unhappy Pichu. Other than that, nothing, really.

Name: Izumi Orimoto

Gender: Female

Age: 16

Appearance: A teenager with long blonde hair, she has calm aquamarine eyes. She has a fuchsia hat on, and wears a blue and white striped shirt with a pink vest over it. She wears a pink skirt, and has fair skin. She has lavender sneakers on, and has a sapphire necklace worn around her neck.

Personality: A girl who is considered a sweet, cute, little softie by a lot of people, she is easily underestimated. Yes, she is sweet, cute and is a little softie. Izumi is usually cheerful and keeps her cool most of the time. The calm girl can be really talkative at times, and has mood swings rarely. She cares for Pokemon a whole bunch and has dated with boys a lot. She is a girl who expects very highly in her future boyfriends, and is quite a spendthrift.

Pokemon:

Milotic (Fate) (Female)

Starmie (Rainbow) (Genderless)

Beautifly (Sincerity) (Female)

Blaziken (Courage) (Male)

Jigglypuff (Light) (Female)

Clefable (Kindness) (Female)

Other: Courage is the only male in the group and Light doesn’t want to evolve, ‘cause she thinks she looks ugly, after Izumi showed her a picture on how she would when she evolved.

Lemurian

Lady Myuu's Opposite
Name: Alex Darkblade
Gender: Male
Age: 21

Appearance: Alex has dark-brown hair, crimson eyes hidden behind a pair of sun-glasses and is a bit high for his age. He normally wears a set of black clothing consisting of a black, thin open jacket and a black t-shirt beneath. His legs are covered by a pair of black jeans which end in a pair of grey sneakers. Over it all, he wears a long hooded coat that reaches down to his knees. He carries his Pokeballs in hidden pockets around in the coat. Overall, a suspicious look.

Personality: Alex is very quiet and harsh both in battle and outside. He has no sense of humour and only smiles on the battlefield. He never shows mercy and doesn't care about the opponents Pokemon at all. He is very confident but can't stand to lose.

Pokemon:

Mightyena ( Male ) ( Pain ) Mostly the same personality as his trainer.
Typloshion ( Male ) ( Volcano ) Same as trainer
Gengar ( Male ) ( Bleak ) Same as trainer
Scyther ( Male ) ( Blade ) Same as trainer
Pidgeot ( Male ) ( Storm ) Same as trainer
Ditto ( Female ) ( Copy ) Careless, and the only one with sense of humour in the whole team.

Other: He seems to be looking for something there in the tournament...

Psychic

Really and truly
Name: June

Gender: female

Age: 15

Appearance: June’s on the tall side; she’s lean and well-muscled and actually quite flexible. Her skin is slightly tanned, and her wavy light brown hair just falls around her waist lightly. She usually wears dark jeans and a cream-colored shirt with light blue sleeves. A pair of prescriptioned sunglasses covers her eyes. (Her vision is kinda crappy, but nobody really knows that!)

Personality: Not being much of a talker, June is relatively shy. She has her own opinions, but she isn’t usually comfortable voicing them unless for good reason. When she believes in something, she’ll stick by her beliefs ‘till the end. June’s mind also tends to wander a lot, so she spaces out quite a bit, so if someone is talking to her and she doesn’t seem to be replying, it’s best to just leave her be.
June pretty much knows that she’s like this, which is one of the reasons she wears the sunglasses. She feels like they’re her protection, her safety blanket, and they can help her to hide anything she’s thinking or feeling.
During battle, however, June is a lot less shy and more headstrong. Her air of confidence in battle, matched with the mysterious glasses, make her seem tougher than she really is. For this reason, she always tries to intimidate the opposing trainer. But when she’s fighting a losing battle, her sunglasses can’t always hide her distress.

Pokémon:
Pendulum- Hypno (female)
Ancient- Kabutops (male)
Askla- Seviper (male)
Claw- Golduck (male)
Grace- Ninetails (female)
Darkfeather- Sneasel (male)

Other: Like I said: June’s sunglasses make her seem intimidating, but she’s really a softie at heart. Still, she is a tough battler, so be wary.

alright.. it looks like we have enough trainers but we're still lacking judges. i'm reducing the number of judges to 3, so we'll need another 2 to sign up before we can start.

umbreonEX: your sign-up is too simplistic and lacking detail which is required for this RPG. please revise it and try again. not accepted.

sapphire: accepted.

lemurian: you don't really need to sign up with personalities for your pokemon but you could try to include them into your posts to impress the judges. accepted.

psychic: accepted.

i'm sorry we're taking so long to start but we need the judges before we can start. hang in there and i think we can start after christmas. btw, merry christmas everyone! =)

Ytnim

Storm Trainer
Name: Daniel James Hunter
Gender: Male
Age: 26

Appearance: His hair is a jet black and always untidy but it is usually hidden under his favorite red cap. His eyes are a deep brown but he wears black rimmed sunglasses with the lenses reflecting a dull yellow colour. He wears a plain white T-shirt on his torso but has a black coat in his back-pack that he wears when the weather turns nasty. He has a red back-pack that all his personal belongings are kept in. He wears blue denium jeans. His shoes are nothing special, just white sneakers.

Personality: To everyone who doesn't know him well he seems distant and unfriendly but it is only when he really gets to know someone that he will really open up and show them how he really feels about them. Shows little emotion about anything and any situation seems to make him bored. Most of this is due to his extreme laziness. He just can't be bothered reacting to anything that happens around him. Even though lazy, he is smart and has a huge knowledge of the world of Pokemon and he holds it all in his amazing memory. Amazing to the fact that he can remember exactly what you said last week in a conversation about lettuce but forgets where he put his shoes half an hour ago! If you are in need of something he may seem uninterested but when you turn your back he will do everything he can in order to help you. He may have his faults but he is a true friend.

Pokemon:

Torch - Blaziken - Male
Tonic - Poliwrath - Male
Bane - Breloom - Male
Kite - Machamp -Female
Fizz - Heracross - Female
Spritz - Medicham - Female

Other: Has Ombrophobia, fear of being rained on.

Sample:

Daniel hardly got a glimpse of the massive building that lay in front of him as he dashed to get inside and out of the thundering rain. The young man removed his hat from his head to show his soaked black hair which shook with his head as he tried to rid himself of the excess water. Wringing his hat so it to was dry, well relatively speaking, he replaced it, hiding his messy hair once again.

The building Daniel has just entered is none other than the Pokemon Leauge. The place where pokemon trainers from all over come to put it all on the line, to make it or break it, to crown the trainer that has risen above his peers and become more than an ordinary trainer and into a Champion. This was the greatest honor for a pokemon trainer, and they all strived to become it. Daniel was here to test his prowess as a pokemon trainer, and his pokemon's strength.

Pokemon... Daniel looked to his belt, where 6 balls were attached, all were coloured white underneath but their top halves set them apart. Three had red tops, another was blue, with a pair of red stripes. The next was a greyish tone, with black crosses over it, almost like netting. And the last was white, all white. Daniel looked past the pokeballs and at the pokemon that resided in them. He thought of the battles he partook with them, the victories he shared, the losses he endured, all the training he did with them, everything that had accumulated to this point in time, the oppurtunity to show the world just how well he and his pokemon could fight alongside each other.

The pokemon trainer held the proof in his hands. Eight badges, one from each of the gym leaders in Hoenn. Daniel reflected once again on each of the battles he fought to earn his badges, and how loyal his pokemon were to him in each and every encounter. The young man came back to the present, forgetting the past for a moment and seeing the large crowd of people amassed in front of him. Most were people wanting to buy tickets to the matches, but there was a fair number of trainers looking for entry as well.

Shuffling to the back of the line, Daniel watched and waited as the line become shorter and shorter, until eventually he stood infront of a desk which had a male receptionist on the other side, his name badge reading "Jeff".

"Name." Jeff said gruffly. He was not asking, but telling.

The man was at least 10 years older than Daniel, and had obviously had a long and tiring day. Daniel figured it must be quite the tiring job, copping abuse from customers about their tickets while standing there with a smile on your face.

"Daniel. Daniel Hunter." Daniel replied.

Jeff typed the name into the computer next to him which Daniel assumed brought up his pokemon trainer information.

"Badges." Jeff said as roughly as before.

Daniel held out his badges in his open palm and Jeff grabbed them. Shoving them under a scanner of some sort, a laser ran over them and the machine gave a pleasent sounding 'ding'. Jeff crammed the badges back into Daniel's outstreached hand again. Sliding a registration form and pen over the desk, Jeff pointed to a row of desks along the back wall and then another receptionist desk, with another line of trainers, albeit a smaller one.

"Fill it out over there, and hand it back at the other desk." And with that Jeff waved him away to deal with his next customer.

Daniel sat down at a table and looked over the form. It all looked pretty standard, and seemed mostly about what six pokemon he was going to enter in the competition. Jotting down his six pokemon, Daniel took his position in line and waited for the next receptionist to see him. This time it was a female, and her name badge read "Jane".

"Hello... Daniel. Having a nice day?" she said cheerfully, reading his name from the form he handed her. She must have been having a much better day than Jeff from her tone of voice.

"Alright, apart from being soaked on the way here." Daniel said, looking outside at the poor weather, the sky lighting up with a flash of lightning.

"Everything seems to be in order, please take a seat in the next room." Jane said, ushering him into a doorway.

Daniel found himself in the trainer's lounge, big comfy seats everywhere, with trainers doing all kinds of preperation for the matches ahead. Daniel took a seat, and waited for whatever he was to wait for.

OOC: Signing up for a judge, obviously.
