The slideshow format we saw today was what all of the m8 non ash battles were originally going to be btw
First half was cute, we got the mandatory lost at the league arc
Tbh, if rillaboom sweeping diantha getting offscreened means a better ash v cynthia, it is a worthy sacrifice o7

- First episode features a trainer with a weak normal type pokémon that Ash defeats on his way to the stadium
- The strongest trainer of the league defeats another trainer in the first round in a Charizard vs Charizard showdown sweep.
- Only the semifinals and finals are 6v6 and the first match of the 6v6 ends up being the strongest trainer vs a mega evolution user in a sweep that involves Charizard, of which is a rushed battle that barely shows any of it.
- Second round of the semifinals involves Ash vs a strategist
- There will be at least one non-league-battle episode between the semifinals and the finals
- In the final round, it will come down to a Charizard vs Ash's current ace

But noooo the writers find it totally original and an awesome idea! Nobody will complain about it. Lost at the Master Eight is a downgraded Lost At The League (or LATL) only with Cynthia added to boost viewers and to see Diantha get curbstomped baaad.

Well I guess good thing they gave Diantha a proper battle vs Lance cuz lmao.

I don't think anyone was expecting to see the full battle, but I was hoping we could see more. I even think skipping over the bulk of the middle was the correct play - idk how most feel but I think that a montage or jumping back and forth kinda interrupts the flow more than just jumping right back in near the end. It only worked for Ash vs Wallace because it was a gag, I don't think it would've worked as well here.

I'd maybe have Ash and Cynthia watch more of the start of the battle before being interrupted to try to find the person anyways. And like have Leon lose more Pokemon at least. 3 down into Charizard would at least look better than getting massively dumpstered by Rillaboom geez.

Also needs a better interruption than "lost axew at the league" again but any interruption was gonna be mid anyways.

Mega Gardevoir using Psychic on the Gmax move was pretty cool until it got smacked up by the next move.

I'd probably be less disappointed if I didn't wait a month for this but productions issues gonna happen. I hope that eventually things reset back - it really does look like they need a breather to readjust but the perpetual state of the franchise really prevents this from happening quickly.
