Mostly Harmless
Name: Steve Ansell

Affiliated Group(s):
Student
Loner
Non-Coven

Age: 17

Gender: Male

Personality:
Steve usually keeps to himself as he easily gets nervous when in crowds. When he feels comfortable, though, he can be quite talkative and entertaining. He is honest, but won’t speak his mind, if he feels his words might cause offence or harm. He rarely starts conversations, mostly because he doesn’t want to be considered intrusive and partly because he’s not sure how to do it. He doesn’t have much self-confidence and thus tries to avoid confrontation. When angered enough, though, he can be extremely sarcastic.

He doesn’t have many friends outside school, he mostly spends his free time in his room creating various videos he puts on the internet (this is his true passion; he wants to become a film director). He is analytic, and usually thinks a lot before doing anything. As such, he can dwell on his mistakes and missed opportunities for a long time. Despite his tendency to get melancholic, his default mood is cautious optimism.

Even though he would never admit it, he does sometimes seek attention of others with varying success. He secretly wants to be popular, but, after his past experience with popularity, he’s managed to convince himself, he’s better off on his own.

Appearance:
Steve is about average height, although his slender build makes him seem taller than he actually is. He has curly black hair rising a couple of inches above the top of his head, kind of like a small afro. Because of this, his head seems to be triangular, although his face is more or less round.

His skin is light brown and apart from a small birthmark on his left cheek without many noticeable imperfections. His piercing dark eyes seem even more striking through his black-framed glasses. At closer look, his mouth is a bit wider than most people’s, though not many notice it. Above it, there’s just a hint of moustache. His preferred style of clothing is dark blue jeans and plaid shirts, either long- or short-sleeved, depending on the weather. As for footwear, Steve’s favourite shoes are white and blue high sneakers. He wears no accessories.

History:
The first years of Steve’s life were pretty unremarkable. He was the second child of a moderately successful newspaper journalist and a stay-at-home mom.

The big turning point of his life came when he was 12. At that time, his mother won the lottery and overnight the family became millionaires. At first, it seemed like a blessing; Steve instantly became the most popular kid in school, he had everything he ever wanted (and a few things he didn’t), it felt like the world revolves around him.

Unfortunately for Steve, it didn’t last. A few new luxurious houses, reckless spending sprees, holidays to exotic places and wild parties later, the money was starting to run thin. Then, the fighting began. Steve, of course, wasn’t unaffected by it. His grades plummeted; he became jumpy and sensitive and even suffered a mild depression. Steve’s parents were engaged in a constant conflict and, with his brother Danny already at college, Steve’s only getaway and source of comfort were the fictional universes provided to him by countless movies and video games. And it is those dark times his love for the moving pictures originates from. Sure enough, a divorce was inevitable, with the majority of the remaining money spent on lawyers.

At 15, he began a new life. Following the divorce, Steve and his mother, who got a job at a local shopping mall, moved to Glenwood. A new environment and a more peaceful home helped to improve his grades, though Steve struggled to fit in, which is why he still prefers the solitude and tranquility of his room.

Other: Steve is an asthmatic.
