when I got the sims, it worked great and I uninstalled it because my sister had to barrow it for a while, I uninstalled it and when I installed it back, it goes back to my computer desktop when the game is finished loading.

what i suggest, as i think youre saying that as soon as its finished loading it goes off straight back to youre desktop... so try re-installing it, is the cd scratched or dirty? try cleaning it.

Well if you noticed the commer as he elaborated...

Try AI's method if it is scratched. It probably needs reinstalling but, like I said, could be something with your video card but it often isn't. :/
