The Sugimori Face-Off!

*gaaaaasp!* HE'S BACK?! NOOOO!!!
Well, seeing as there's time to kill between now and when my heavily awaited D/P Shiny Face-Off begins, I decided it would be fun to have another Face-Off.

Seeing how much I enjoy the R/S vs Fr/Lg Sprite Face-Off, I decided to do something similar, as in comparing old with new. But this is comparing the Old 90's Work and the 21st Century Work of everyone's favourite Pokemon Artist, Ken Sugimori!

The Rules are simple. A Pokemon will be chosen at random each round and a picture will be supplied of the old and new Sugimori Art of them. Merely pick which one you prefer.
However, if the reason you're voting for the Newer Art is because "It looks cleaner and newer" then your vote will not be counted. This is because clearly the New Art has an advantage over the Old Art due to it being colored with new-age technology and not by traditional means.

The objective of this Face-Off is to see if the people of the forum think Sugimori has still got it, or slightly lost it in the 8-9 years he's been drawing for Pokemon.

Yes, we're starting with the basics, Bulbasaur. He is number 001 after all, why wouldn't we start this Face-Off as such?
I vote for New Bulbasaur, because it looks so innocent in the picture. Its cute little eyes and smile are just too adorable, while Old Bulbasaur's "I'm Leech Seeding youz!" stance isn't all that appealing to me.

I'll vote the old Bulbasaur. And that'll probably be the trend for the duration of this face-off. I always thought the original art had a nice feeling to it. It made the Pokémon look a bit real, and not cartoony.

Now... I rather like the pose of the old Bulba. He looks fierce, even. The colors are kind of off, but that was to be expected. It wasn't until recently when there's been an agreement in colors between all Pokémon divisions. Plus, I despise how the new Bulba looks too over-cutesy...

Anyway, I don't know, really. I think that most of the new ones look better, but the Bulbasaur's eyes seem... wrong, somehow. Too big and staring, plus he looks a tad silly when smiling like that. Meh, so I'll vote the old one, though its colors bug me.

On topic, I vote the New Bulbasaur. The old Suigmori Bulbasaur looks incredibly cheesy. As with sprites, I prefer neutral poses as they don't end up all awkward.
Plus, that old art looks like like it was drawn by a kid in reception.

I'm voting for the old Bulbasaur here. The new Bulba just looks stiff, and the colors are forgettable, while the old one makes a real impression with me, and he actually looks lively in that pose. o.o The colors rock, too.

Whoo! End of the Semester...thank GOD! My Final Exams were pretty intense and Biology was worth 30% of my mark -.-o Ho wellz, English and Chemistry next semester! Can't wait...

It's nice to see that there are still original ideas out there!
Anyways, I vote for the classic (old) Clefairy. I would have voted for the classic Bulbasaur as well because they look more alive.
The Clefairy's look similar but compare the nicely toned classic Bulbasaur with it's blue, shaded skin to the boring light green colour that covers the body of the new version and I think you will see where I'm coming from!
