Well, this is basically a thread where you discuss/explain the TRUE best pokemon
Mewtwo- Potentially the best pokemon in the game due to its wide movepool and limited counters. It isn't only a special sweeper; it can also go physical, blow up on stuff and even outstall an entire team. It can Taunt at stuff like Lugia, and then Calm Mind up while its forced to Ice Beam you (or in G80's set; struggle). Unless Lugia is packing Aeroblast or Shadow Ball, Mewtwo is safe. Second highest USED speed in the game too, and the sole reason Deoxys-F exists (and it can't switch into Mewtwo unless Mewtwo uses Recover/Calm Mind/Taunt or Brick Break). To effectively counter Mewtwo you'll need to know its set. Second highest Special Attack in the game gets a mention as well. Regardless of what Smogon says about Groudon being the best pokemon in the game
Groudon- With 150 Base Attack, a STABed Earthquake, and other moves and stats to dazzle about. The two standards are a Choice Band set and a Swords Dance set. Both can tear any team apart under the right circumstances. It can potentially survive a Latios Ice Beam and OHKO back with HP Bug, or Thunder Wave random stuff. Or Fire Blast Skarmories. Groudon also has a base 100 HP and 140 Defense and no physical weaks, making it a decent physical wall. HOWEVER, most physical stuff in the uber metagame hurts Groudon a lot (CBMeteor Mash from Metagross, CBSuperpower from Deoxys-F, etc).
Lugia- Lugia has unbelievable walling abilities. 130 base defense, 154 base special defense and 106 base HP, properly EV'd give it enough defense to take stat-up'd attacks easily. It can easily set up a Reflect against physical attackers and waste them alive by Pressurizing them, and maybe Toxicing and then Whirlwinding them off. Or Calm Mind on special Sweepers and blow them away. Or abuse spikes with Rest/Sleep Talk/Whirlwind and maybe Roar. Or just hit hard with its oneofakind STAB Aeroblast.
My vote goes to Mewtwo
