Well, when I first heard the name, my first thought was, "Oh, just like the Soviet Union."

Unova seems to be the most exciting region to explore. Does its initial impression hold up while playing through the game?

No. Bad map formatting (wow Masuda, an hexagon, you're a genius), no Water routes (yeah guys I don't want a repeat of Hoenn but I'd be fine with something like Sinnoh, is this Sahara or the US, wtf), completely linear map (you can't go to [n+1]th Gym City until you beat the n-th Gym Leader, it's more linear than Final Fantasy XIII, what in heavens), few routes, bad pokémon distribution (why is Deino by the Victory Road), too high evolution levels (oh boy this shaolin fighter I found by the seventh gym sure looks cool and it has an awesome evolution, let's see on which level it evolves... OH GOD DIE IN A FIRE LEVEL 50?), bland-looking cities, no backtracks (except for the Axew cave because Haxorus is awesome in-game) and... I don't know. Something seems missing. All the cities look the same (btw Castelia sucks, fuck that 3D), all the routes look the same, all the pokémon by the end of the Dex evolve late and are found late, sometimes hidden in some random floor of a one-time-visit dungeon; I'd say anything after Cryogonal in the Dex is screwed (it's not that many but come on, everybody here like at least two of those evolutionary lines)...

Really, I could stay here all day long, but it wouldn't matter. I can't put my finger on what's my real issue with in-game B/W, and telling you all my complaints about the game won't make you change your mind about playing it; at least I hope you get a bit *less* overhyped by it. It's better this way, so you won't spoil yourself if you don't like it and, if you do... well, then it surpassed your expectations. And it's not like the game is bad, it's just... not what I expected. And I play Pokémon for more than ten years, since Yellow, so I know I wouldn't see anything revolutionary lol.

Oh, and I played for, like, half an hour after beating Ghetsis. I couldn't care less about East Unova, but maybe all the cool kids are there and I should give it a try? Meh, I'm going to sell my JP Black anyway, I just need to SR for my Speed Boost Torchic first.

I read in bulbapedia that the people on the ferris wheel talk in sexual puns (they had a complicated name for it... double entendres). I wonder what N says when you get on XP...
The main problem with BW is that it's suited for new players. They programed everything, from levels, the lineir walkthrough and no grass in between routes so it won't be hard for them, which really sucks for experienced players. I hope they change that in [grey] 3game.

No. Bad map formatting (wow Masuda, an hexagon, you're a genius), no Water routes (yeah guys I don't want a repeat of Hoenn but I'd be fine with something like Sinnoh, is this Sahara or the US, wtf), completely linear map (you can't go to [n+1]th Gym City until you beat the n-th Gym Leader, it's more linear than Final Fantasy XIII, what in heavens), few routes, bad pokémon distribution (why is Deino by the Victory Road), too high evolution levels (oh boy this shaolin fighter I found by the seventh gym sure looks cool and it has an awesome evolution, let's see on which level it evolves... OH GOD DIE IN A FIRE LEVEL 50?), bland-looking cities, no backtracks (except for the Axew cave because Haxorus is awesome in-game) and... I don't know. Something seems missing. All the cities look the same (btw Castelia sucks, fuck that 3D), all the routes look the same, all the pokémon by the end of the Dex evolve late and are found late, sometimes hidden in some random floor of a one-time-visit dungeon; I'd say anything after Cryogonal in the Dex is screwed (it's not that many but come on, everybody here like at least two of those evolutionary lines)...

Really, I could stay here all day long, but it wouldn't matter. I can't put my finger on what's my real issue with in-game B/W, and telling you all my complaints about the game won't make you change your mind about playing it; at least I hope you get a bit *less* overhyped by it. It's better this way, so you won't spoil yourself if you don't like it and, if you do... well, then it surpassed your expectations. And it's not like the game is bad, it's just... not what I expected. And I play Pokémon for more than ten years, since Yellow, so I know I wouldn't see anything revolutionary lol.

Oh, and I played for, like, half an hour after beating Ghetsis. I couldn't care less about East Unova, but maybe all the cool kids are there and I should give it a try? Meh, I'm going to sell my JP Black anyway, I just need to SR for my Speed Boost Torchic first.

All the cities look the same? Wow then I must be blind because each city looks different to me. Also I find ironic that so many people are complaining about Unova being linear as people complained about the past regions to confusing at times. (Not directing this at you btw) Also Unova at least has a decent amount of things to do after the game which I would gladly take of a region like Hoenn. It was big but that's it. It was big empty space. You found a few items here and there but that's it. Yeah you had the battle tower/battle frontier but and contests if you liked that but yeah. It was fun finding the regis though I'll admit but still. I really loved Johto and the way it was designed and it was pretty small but still fun.

I'm actually looking forward to Unova because of the ways each city is designed (yes I spoiled myself but I only saw a portion of each city) and the look of the areas like Pinwheel Forest, Chargestone Cave, the five bridges, and o on. The battle Subway looks cool albeit I won't be there too often but it's a nice change of pace from the usual Battle Tower. Needless to say I don't agree with all your statements but everyone has their owns views so this region just may not be for you. On my list I would have:

1. Unova
2. Hoenn
3. Johto
4. Sinnoh
5. Kanto

@Mario With Lasers Why attempt to get us less hyped for a new game? If you dislike the region, that is your problem. I personally have no beef with the layout or how linear a region is, I just want to catch and raise Pokemon. If we can't change your opinion by any means you can't change ours.

Unova is probably my second favorite region. It combined all the things I liked about previous regions. It has a cool desert like hoenn, it has big cities like Kanto, and it has little surfing like Sinnoh. I also like how Unova has version exclusive areas. I think both White Forest and Black City sound interesting.

Yeah, those ferris wheel rides sound creepy indeed. I've been on the ferris wheel with various people, but I never understood what they said, so I didn't know that it would be an awkward time. Anyway, I never really liked Nimbasa City at first, but now I see that it has a lot of appeal. The Battle Subway is located there, plus the Pokemon Musical hall and the Sport Domes. There's also some other facility there, but I forget what's it's called. It's near the Pokemon Center.
