The Uprising

Keep Smiling...
The Uprising Preview

Fans of the original may be a little confused but let me explain. This is NOT strictly a rewrite. You will recognise characters, you will recognise themes, you may even recognise certain story elements BUT otherwise, it's completely changed. I'm not making myself very clear, am I?

I'd be a fool to admit that my quality of writing was perfect and went away for a bit for just really, well... practising. After a while I decided to return to the Uprising but found it far too dull just to correct my work. Instead, I started from scratch, and as I work new ideas came, clever plot twists arose, secondary characters became primary characters and so on and so forth.

I think this new Uprising will seem completely unfamiliar to all of you. You may remember what Matt's tragedy was, what the Uprising actually is (or what it is appearing to be) and you may remember Kate and her cockney accent but other than that it's completely changed. People who read the original bare with me, and new readers, I hope you love every minute of it.

But for now, to keep your tongues a-waggling, I've got a sneaky peak preview of it. It's actually the very start of it. Feel free to constructively criticise or praise it and be aware this is only the beginning of what is hopefully something good.

Enjoy!!!!

A Preview of the Uprising

The man looked uneasily across at his destroyed workstation. Disaster was everywhere… The power was out, but somewhere, somehow there was a great, blinding light that seemed to pierce the senses. The ground looked as though it had been ripped apart with great cracks and folds in its surface. It was as though the ground was alive as it shifted and shook all that remained on top of it. As sweat poured down his forehead, a woman ran forward as if from no where, but she was slapped back by a piece of morphing ground. She gasped as she fell and the man could just about make out tears on her terrified face. The woman looked up at the man and the pain in her eyes made the man retch.

He almost keeled over onto the floor but mid-fall felt a slash to his side. He went hurtling straight into a pile of crates. And suddenly, amidst all this hurt and fear, he suddenly heard a voice. But it was not a calming one.

“This is your fault. FIX. IT.”

And suddenly the man was overlooking the whole scene. It wasn’t so much that he was floating above it or observing it from security cameras, he just knew all that was going on, all the terrible things happening to these people. And he had the power to end it…

A rocketing explosion; a blinding light; a flash of a fiery face; fear; pain; guilt; disaster. It all culminated in that single moment.

And with a start, Matthew Cunning woke up.
