The 'Water/Psychics'

Well, I'm referring to:

Psyduck
Golduck
Staryu
Starmie
Slowpoke
Slowbro
Slowking

A bit of an odd thought, but only the last 4 of these are actually Psychic type. The Psyduck line is pure Water and Staryu only gains the extra type when it evolves. Any suggestions on why this might be?

I think the anime made them look much more psychic than they really are. I mean, be honest, if it wasn't for that psyduck misty got, you would be suprised why it learns confusion.

And golduck isn't psychic because, well, why would it be?

There is no particular reason why Psyduck and Golduck should be or shouldn't be Psychic. They have Psychic powers either way. It just so happens they decided to not give the Psychic type to neither Psyduck nor Golduck.

As to why Staryu becomes Psychic after evolving into Starmie, again, there isn't a really good reason. It's the same with Cloyster and Poliwrath - they could have been pure Water types, since their second typing isn't right-down obvious, like, say, Enperuto's Steel typing.

A lot of pokemo gain an extra type upon evolution. Maybe cause the pre evo exibited some psychic tendencies

yeah... im still confused on psyduck though, he should be psychic... maybe not golduck.
golduck tends to be more of a general water type in the anime.

I suppose the reason why Psy and Golduck don't have the second typing of Psychic, it that they are based off of platypus', so Water would suit more. Adding Psychic would then mean that they're counterpart at the time (Slowpoke/Slowbro) would have exact typings.

Golduck is based off of a ducky kappa, and I always thought that kappas were psychicish.

Here's my hypothesis: Psy and Gol wer supposed to be both water/psychic, but in some of the later phases of game design, they were chosen to not be.

But Psy and Gol are more psychic than Slopoke and Slobro IMO.

The dex (or something) says that when psyduck evolves its headache is changed into psychic powers, so at least golduck should be part psychic.
Speaking of psy/golduck, shouldnt they shift names, golduck is more psychic than psyduck, and psyduck is more golden than golduck.
