I'm a big fan of the old british quiz show, The Weakest Link hosted by Anne Robinson. Her icy disapline persona with the combination of silly funny answers. I've seen several fic versions of the show, but never been able to find one that was complete, so I thought I might give it a go.

The Weakest Link
Anne: Welcome to The Weakest Link. Any of the eight players in the studio could win up to ¥20,000,000. They don't know each other, however, if they want the prize money they have to work as a team. BUT seven of them will leave with nothing, as round by round, we lose the player voted the weakest link. Let's meet the team!

Shin Chan: I'm Shin Chan, and I'm a ladies man from Japan!

Kari: My name is Kari and I'm part of a team called The Digidestined.

Joey: I'm Joey Wheeler. I'm a professional duelist and I am the strongest link!

Hinata: I'm Hinata and I'm a mother to two gorgous children.

Luffy: I'm Luffy the pirate king. And I'm gonna leave here richer!

Anne: Now the rules, in each round the aim is to awnser enough questions correctly to reach and bank your ¥2,000,000 within the time limit. The fastest way is to create a chain of eight correct answers within the time limit.
Get your question wrong, then you break the chain and lose all the money in the chain. But, if you say, "bank" before a question is asked, the money is safe, however, you start a new chain from scratch. Remember team at the end of the round, only money that's been banked can be taken forward.
In round one, we have three minutes on the clock. We'll start with the person who's name is first alphabetically, that's you Dawn. Let's play the weakest link! The first question is for ¥10,000. Start the clock!

¥0 > ¥10,000 > ¥50,000 > ¥100,000 > ¥250,000 > ¥500,000 > ¥1,000,000 > ¥1,500,000 > ¥2,000,000

Anne: Time is up. In that first round you banked a pathetic ¥1,100,000. You had a chain of nine correct awnsers, so you could have easily reached and banked your ¥2,000,000 target. Who is more of a magikarp then a charizard? Who is costing you money? Time to vote off the weakest link!

Narrator: Kari is the strongest link as she was the only player to bank money for the team. Luffy is statistically the weakest link, but who will be the first to take the walk of shame?

Anne: Voting over! Time to reveal who you think is the weakest link?

Shin Chan: Ichigo the pervert!
Kari: Luffy
Joey: Shin Chan
Hinata: Luffy
Luffy: Joey
Serena: Luffy
Dawn: Joey
Ichigo: Luffy

Anne: I think there's some of you that don't quite understand the rules of the game. You thought Ichigo was the weakest link did you Shin Chan?
Shin Chan: Yeah cause he keeps stating at your boobs!
Anne: What's your specialist subject, Shin Chan?
Shin Chan: Here's mine! (Moons to the whole studio.)
Anne: You can put it away now. Well what would your mother think if she saw you showing your bottom on television?
Shin Chan: She won't be watching. She'll be watching Desperate Housewives and stuffing her face with chocolate.

Anne: Do you have anything to add to that, Ichigo?
Ichigo: I'd like to change my vote.
Anne: It's a bit late for that. Why Luffy?
Ichigo: He was the only one in the round to get an answer wrong.
Anne: Joey got his question wrong as well.
Ichigo: It was a good answer as far as I'm concearned.

Anne: So you've never heard of Justin Beiber then, Joey?
Joey: I have!
Anne: Then why didn't you awnser the question correctly?
Joey: I was trying to be clever.
Anne: It wasn't really. You cost the team money! Why are you getting of Luffy?
Joey: He got the Jack Sparrow question wrong, and everybody knows about Captain Jack Sparrow.

Anne: Serena, why did you bank when there was nothing to bank?
Serena: Oh I don't know... it was instinct.
Anne: You're a big fan of food I see.
Serena: (gasps as she feels her slender figure.) Are you trying to say I'm fat?
Anne: Not at all, but you got the question right about KFC being eaten to celebrate Christmas Eve.
Serena: Oh... right.
Anne: Why Luffy?
Serena: Well he got a question wrong.

Anne: Luffy the pirate king who dosen't know the difference between Captain Hook and Captain Sparrow. With four votes you are the weakest link, goodbye!

Luffy: I can't believe I came all this way to be voted off first. I think Shin Chan is going to be voted off next. Because of his age people are gonna tear him apart and of course his comment on Ichigo.

Hoo boy, this takes me back to around 2001-ish. First off, The Weakest Link was fantastic, and it was fantastic precisely because Anne Robinson is an absolute queen. Shame it didn’t quite catch on in the States compared to things like Survivor or Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. Probably had to do with the fact that quiz shows were going out of style, and high-drama competitions satisfied the American itch for raw schadenfreude.

On top of that, this kind of thing—where you took a popular show and recast it with your favorite characters—was definitely a popular genre back in the day. Granted, I’ve never seen it done with The Weakest Link, but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen it done with Survivor or Whose Line Is It Anyway? or stuff of the sort. All of them were silly as all sin and incredibly and unapologetically OOC, and that’s part of what made them great. They were by no means good fics objectively speaking, but the point is, they were fun.

But as nostalgic as this is, it’s … not a thing that can fly here, unfortunately. See, we’ve got a basic rule about script fics: they’re not allowed unless you’re very careful about the formatting and proofreading. And unfortunately, that’s the main issue here. Your fic is currently 100% dialogue, with no stage directions (descriptions or generally stuff besides the dialogue) at all.

Likewise, while most of the questions were answered correctly (beside the intentionally incorrect answer), there were quite a few issues with proofreading and fact-checking for both sides. For example, the Netherlands legalized gay marriage in 2001, not 2000; the city in South Korea is Seoul; and her name is Idina Menzel … and if we want to get particularly accurate, she voiced a queen, not a princess. That’s not to mention a number of minor editorial errors as well. (For example, there was some then/than confusion. Remember that “then” is a time word, and “than” compares two things. On a similar note, "who's" is a contraction for "who is," whereas "whose" is a possessive. Additionally, you'll want to capitalize things like "Christmas Eve" and, when referring to the actual game, "Weakest Link.") As a quiz “fic,” it’s a good idea to be very careful with your research and editing—especially when it comes to quiz shows, which are typically sticklers about research as well.

In short, while you could write a script fic, it’s a very, very good idea to study up on script formatting first and be extra careful about editing as you go. Otherwise, it’s just not a thing that flies all that well around these parts, and we generally don’t allow script fics because, well, your fic really shouldn’t be 100% dialogue unless that adds something artistically to your story.

Sorry!
