The Whirl Cup (PG-13 for mild violence and language)

Son_of_Shadows

Well-Known Member
Every year, the region of Johto plays host to a fantastic tournament, held at the legendary and mysterious Whirl Islands, said to be the home of the legendary Diving Pokemon - Lugia, though none have ever seen it. The islands on Route 41, lie between the port city, Olivine, and the island city, Cianwood. The Tournament is known as the Whirl Cup. The Tournament enforces a strict rule though - only Water types can be used to battle, though of course, competitors may own other types. Each year, the winner of the Cup is bestowed a rare Silver Wing, said to be one of Lugia's feathers. This is a highly valuable artifact. and the winners are encouraged to treasure it all their lives. No winner may enter the Whirl Cup again, once they have won. However, this year, there are nefarious forces at work.

A duo of thieves have entered the Whirl Cup, and plot to steal the Silver Wing, the Cup, and every Pokemon they can get their grimy hands on.The Sticky Holders, as they call themselves, utilise their Muk's Sticky Hold ability to ensure they hold on to any treasure they swipe. Billy and Kidd are in their mid twenties, and this brother-sister duo have really made a name for themselves. They are wanted in Kanto, Hoenn and Fiore, and will be entering the tournament under the pseudonyms of "Jack Sundance" (Billy) and "Kat Starl" (Kidd).

A single island has been set aside for the cup, and it has everything necessary. The main arena, complete with Olympic-sized swimming pool and platforms. The stands seat 10,000 patrons, and tickets sell out EVERY YEAR. People all over Johto look forward to the cup - it's their best time to earn revenue from tourism. There is a small village for competitors to stay in, complete with Pokemon Centre, Mart, various cafes and restaurants and cottages. Patrons stay in several hotels, and some are rich enough to commute from Olivine or Cianwood. There are also several smaller arenas, which were used for the preliminaries, and a hall used for the Opening Ball.

Speaking of the opening ceremonies, they're fantastic. Fireworks aplenty, as the Tournament is officially opened by Water Pokemon master Wallace from Hoenn, and various officials from the Johto Government. The opening ceremonies also include a ball. 32 trainers have made it to the main tournament, each character is one of these trainers.

ABSOLTUTELY NO GOD-MODDING. Seriously, my last RP was really ruined by god-modders.
Mild swears are allowed, but nothing too heavy. This is PG-13.
Minor bunnying is accepted, but nothing major. Just to move the story on. Acceptable Example: John ducked under Jack's punch, and hammered an uppercut into his jaw, causing him to start bleeding.

Unacceptable example: John ducked under Jack's punch, and slammed an uppercut into his jaw, knocking him into the air. John followed up by beating the tar out of Jack until he was knocked out.

I operate a three strikes policy. That is to say, I'll warn you for the first two infractions, but on the third, you're out. If your first infraction's REALLY bad, I'll have to give you two strikes. Clear?

Joshua Colquhoun

For the third time that morning, Joshua Colquhoun combed his hair, felt unhappy with it, and messed it up again.

"Bah," he said, "Why am I so nervous?" His hands covered his face as he looked in the mirror. The small cottage Joshua was staying in was moderately well-equipped, and decently spacious. Joshua checked his watch.

"Oh bugger." Fifteen minutes until the opening ceremonies, which were due to start at noon. Frantically, he combed his hair once more. His fringe was smoothed over to the right, and the rest of his hair was relatively straight.

Good enough, he thought, picked up his Pokeballs, and sprinted out the door, towards the massive stadium several hundred metres down the road. This was not something he wanted to miss. He'd come a long way from Cerulean, and that loss at Indigo Plateau. Time to show the whole world just how good he really was.

OOC: You don't have to use bold tags like I've done - I just like it.

Opening ceremonies won't start until everyone's posted at least once.

Jason

Jason, sat, watching the waves lap against the beach, changing the colour of the sand and slowly eroding the land, the only Pokemon he had out was his Feraligatr, who was busy pummelling rocks into sand, he remembered why he was coming back into the open, to test himself against some of the best water Pokemon users, his other non water Pokemon were at professor Oak's, he had left them there before coming here, he slowly stood up, taking on last look at the beach before strapping his sword back on to his back.

"Feraligatr, we're leaving," he called walking towards the stadium, the opening ceremony would start soon.

"Return, get a decent rest so you aren't beaten by something weak," he muttered as the large Gator Pokemon appeared beside him.

Devon Gale

Devon lay on his back, staring up at the clouds that were blowing through the beautiful sky above him. One thing that always astounded him every time he came home was the clearness of the sky. So clear, hardly ever turbulent... It relaxed him. He could vaugely make out the pinpoint of light on the horizon that could only be the Olivine lighthouse, and sighed. He knew the legends of the Whirl Islands very well, he knew the risks of attending this tournament, but he was sure it would be completely safe. The legendary Pokemon had never been seen at a Whirl Cup tournament before. Still, he just couldn't shake the look on his mother's face when he told her about his Championship try. He looked to the left and saw his Pokemon splashing in the shallow surf. They sure didn't look worried...

"Alright, team, time to head out." Devon commanded as he called back the Pokemon. He hadn't seen any other competitors, so he wasn't sure what he would be going up against... This was the first time he had ever competed in a tournament as big as the Whirl Cup. He hadn't actually taken the Pokemon league challenge yet. As he headed towards the main festivities area, he took one quick look at the sky, brushed his hair out of his eyes, breathed deeply and focused all of his remaining energy on the trials to come.

Dreis

Standing in a phone booth close to the beach at Whirl Islands, and with Drifloon by his side, floating eerily as he always used to do, Dreis tilted his head to clamp the headset against his left shoulder as he retrieved a small sheet of paper from his pocket and took some note on it.

"I see, then... well, when he comes, please give Mr. Oshimaida my greatest appreciation."

"Sure thing, young," answered a feminine voice from the other sde of the line, as in the background a sales offer (Snorlax brand pots with 50% discount --- who'd believe that) was being called. "Enjoy the tournament."

"Of course... bye." he continued, hanging the phone after that, and taking a deep breath to feel the distinct breeze of the Whirl Sea before him.

Dreis was, for once, happy. It was his second day at the Whirl Island in expectation for the famous "Whirl Cup", a battle contest held specially for Water Pokémon. And he was, according to some people, a more than decent Water Trainer. That's why an old man in Johto took an effort to book him in a boat to Whirl Islands, paying for the fast service with his own money. And Dreis was not one who would just let down someone like that.

Dreis raised his hand, a signal for Drifloon to stop singing whatever he was singing. The small Ghost Pokémon fell silent and floated softly to its Trainers' shoulder, where it stood for a while, and then leapt forward and pushed its purple face against the glass of the phone booth.

"He... Sorry, Drifloon, but you'll have to stop the pranks for some time," the black-haired boy stated smiling briefly.

"Driii?" cried the small Pokémon, and then emitted some sort of chirp, probably expressing his disappointment. Dreis could do nothing but laugh.

"Let's go. I have to be in the opening ceremonies, and that's a 'now'."

With that, the young Trainer started walking as he looked to his left to see the largest building in the area: an enormous, majestic stadium. He gave a moment of thought as to which road to take, when he noticed the place was beginning to get crowded. There were some people scattered in the beach below and already taking towards the stadium. Among them, Dreis noticed a particular sight: a boy, somewhat older than him, with spiky hair and a something's handle being visible on his back. It most likely was a sword, Dreis assumed. He brushed off the thought of who would want to bring a weapon to a Pokémon copetition out of excentricity: in his younger times, Dreis himself used to wear boxing gloves to practice with Poliwhirl...

With a smile, he turned heels and headed to a street which had several posts and marquesines: those of coffee shops, restaurants and antique stores. He passed along some people, who fortunately didn't seem to notice his Drifloon. That was right: the focus today was solely on Water Pokémon. And Dreis intended to show them why.

Koji Mahoki

Koji put the poke ball on the platform of the computer. Talking toward the screen of the computer, the poke ball would slowly dematerialize. And on the other platform, another poke ball would appear. "Thanks man," Koji forced out. The man on the other screen also emitted a facial expression of gratitude. Koji, waving, clicks a button on the computer and the image on the screen of Koji's Gengar and the owner of his farm went black. Garmy fluttered out of his backpack and on top of Koji's head. Koji continued to walk casually away from the booth, looking at the poke ball he'd just received. Memories of the Pokémon he'd used so little would flood his mind. Putting the poke ball on his belt, Koji would fling his arms into the air and exclaim," Yeah!" The seriousness flushed his face and prepared mentally for opening ceremonies.

“Mothi- Moth?”

“Wrong my little insect friend today isn’t a day for seriousness.”

“Thim, mot-thim?”

“What do you care, you’re not even going to participate in this thing anyway, so just relax.”

“Moth…”

The duo continued to walk toward the arena to only stop right outside of it and sit by a bench that faces a television. Garmy flapped its way to Koji’s shoulder. The two watched and waited for the TV to announce the brackets. Koji could feel all of his Pokémon’s anxiety from within their poke balls. Even though Koji felt this, he still decided to set and example for his Pokémon and stay calm and cool. He heard that great trainers have to do that for their pokemon to be successful. So Koji abided by this and ignored their doubt and tried to inspire them with his overwhelming confidence.

Under the sea
Levi Weiss

Levi inclined her head beyond the patio gates, keeping her palms securely fastened to the superior vertical ball, shedding a wide-brimmed smirk as Peanut Butter, her Corsola, and Starmie appeared pleased with themselves, balancing on the same patio gate Levi hung over. Peanut Butter’s appendages, like the tails of a canine, were waving around in good cheer and Starmie was floating up and down, imitating the transit as if it was in water, in the method only a partial psychic Pokemon could achieve. She had to admit, she was very speculative of why, exactly, both of her released Pokemon were flailing around eccentrically to get her attention, raising an eyebrow at the moment amidst messing around with her hair, but, despite the fact her hairdo would absolutely be ruined now, her spirit was revitalized by the sight before her.

“Thank you,” Levi whispered, emerald irises fixed at the sight of the rising golden orb predicating the background of an orchid of palm trees rings that sheltered a platonic scene between sea, sand, and people clad in swimsuits and laughter. Honestly, Levi had lucked out in her living arrangements for the Whirl Cup journey and she made a metal note to later thank the captain for his accommodations though, she suspected her father might’ve intervened to give her the best treatment. Besides the tiny complaint of a series of malfunctioning elevators right as Levi arrived at the continental hotel, she had many luxuries, including, but not limited to, a gorgeous view of the nearest beach a few steps away from being right under her nose. It was a calming visual and Levi was glad that she’d have a potentially bright place to sit and murmur to herself just in case the competition ever made her depressed.

And this morning was really pushing her grace of temper to surrender to the patio and just cry. It was mainly her own fault, not feeling up to notch due to insisting on spending the night alternating between watching the stars and keeping an eye on the nearing islands. Her mood only worsened when she found that her scheduled transport to take her from the port to her hotel room had been stranded due to a blown fuse of some sort and, once she’d finished walking to her hotel with all her luggage in tow. The final nail in the depreciating mood resulted from the defect elevators, which meant that, with the assistance of a few bellboys, she was responsible for lugging her own suits up about six flights of stairs to her hotel spot.

Eh, but she’d managed to get her three bags and settled them in a corner of her room, Levi had a beautiful room, and both her and her Pokemon were feeling totally relaxed despite the upcoming opening ceremony, and, subsequently, the start of the Whirl Cup tournament. On the contrary, Levi was extremely excited about the tournament and she was almost certain her Pokemon had no reserves about doing what they were very much accustomed to doing: Battling. Glancing at the clock hung on some of the walls, Levi suddenly blanched, noting the minute hand landing on the archaic nine. She only had fifteen minutes to travel to the ceremony location by foot and her hotel was some distance away from the center stage of a stadium.

A hasty apology was given as Levi clumsily reached for Peanut Butter and Starmie’s respective pokeballs, retracting them before they could give a lengthy protest involving “puppy dog eyes” and adorable whimpering sound, making a bee-line for the door and grabbing her beloved fedora right before her exit. She began to fiddle with the position of the crimson feather, wondering, in some corner of her mind, how rapidly she could run on her platform shoes and whether or not she’d really make it in time. Ears alert, Levi listened for the pop-pop-pop that might signify her tardiness, the sound of fireworks and the beginning of the Whirl Cup for many of the contestants.

Tom Draco

A red-headed teenager was standing on a secluded beach, bordered by the sea, and high cliffs. The person, Tom Draco, had a half blue and white sphere in his right hand. Tom threw the Pokeball into the morning sky. "Release! Kingdra!" He shouted. The Pokeball opened in half, and a white light burst, and out of the light materialized a large, light blue, seahorse creature. "Kingdra, you are th corner stone of my team for this tournament," He said. "My father said 'You need to train your Dragon Pokeomon in both types that they have. That means you have to train not only for Dragon-types, but for Flying-types, Water-types, and Ground-types.'" Tom sighed. "So that's why we're here old friend, to train in the arts of the Water-type." "King-, Kingdra!" Kingdra responded. Tom lifted his right wrist, and he looked at his Poketch. "Well, it's an hour till the opening ceremonies, wanna train a bit?" Tom asked. Kingdra nodded, and it jumped into the water. "Ok then..." Tom said as he reached for another Pokeball. "Come on out, Muddy!" Tom threw the Pokeball into the ocean, and it released a white light into the water. A four-legged, blue creature, with a white underside materialized out of the light. "Swampert!" It belted in a loud voice. "Muddy, I want you to battle Kingdra. You can do whatever attack you want, but I'll command Kingdra." Tom said to his eager Pokemon. "Kingdra! Let's start with a Dragonbreath!..."

45 minutes later, the battle was over, and Kingdra was the winner. "Kingdrraaa!" Kingdra cried. "Swamp...pert..." Swampert whined as Tom came over with a bottle in his hand. "Muddy, take this," Tom said as he gave the Swampert a Hyper Potion. The Pokemon let Tom spray its wounds with the liquid. Soon Muddy looked better than before. Tom held up the two Pokeballs they came in. "Muddy, Kingdra, return!" Tom commanded. A red beam shot out of the balls and enveloped the Pokemon, and the Pokemon dematerialized into the red light. The red light retracted into the balls, and Tom cliped them back onto his vest. "Better head off to the stadium, the opening ceremonies start in 10 minutes." he told himself as he walked up the path towards the stadium in the distance...

Rain Scavio/Rani Viosca

"Room 302... 302..." Rain muttered as she held a small piece of paper in her hands. It was obviously crumpled and opened many times already, and it had three large letters printed on it: 302. Rain walked along the hallway, reading the numbers on the front of various doors in one of the many hotels where contestants were allowed to stay, trying to find her room. She was in her common clad of sweatpants and a sweatshirt, both too big for her to hide her girly "differences." Her hair was a bird's nest from barely getting any sleep on the S.S. Aqua while traveling from Kanto. She hadn't registered for the Whirl Cup until it was almost too late and just made it in two days before the competition was supposed to start.

"Poli Poli!"

Rain turned and looked down the hallway and saw her Politoed hopping up and down, pointing at the door it was in front of. The Pokémon's trainer ran the rest of the way and rubbed Politoed's head.

"Great job Politoed," she said, fumbling with the keys, "We're already late and we can't afford any distractions that will slow us down."

She finally managed to get the key in the door and she unlocked it, quickly rushing inside. She threw her black duffle bag onto the queen-sized bed next to a large window with a marvelous view of the island and rushed into the bathroom. Already ready with a brush in her hand, she furiously ran the bush through her black-as-pitch hair. It didn't take her long, and she was ready to go the practicing pools in less than five minutes. She was so accustomed to changing quickly that it didn't take her long to make herself look like a male instead of female.

Politoed rushed after her once she had her Pokéballs and was out the door; he was lucky she didn't slam the door and forget him. Once Rain and Politoed made it back through the maze of hallways and out the doors in the lobby that lead to the pools, the girl immediately found a pool far away from any that were being used and sent out all of her Pokémon. Politoed quickly hopped in the pool to join the rest of Rain's team and soon she was staring at her five best and only friends.

"Alright, you all know that this is my one and only chance to prove to my father that I don't have to take over his Gym and my only chance to prove to myself that I'm not a failure," she said, beginning to give her "let's win this" speech.

"Lan, Lanturn."

"Cor!"

Both of her recently caught Johto Pokémon tried to say that she was not a failure, but that quickly hushed when they realized Rain was not in the mood to waste time.

"Today, the Whirl Cup begins and you know we deserve to win. I'm not sure who the other trainers are, but I have no doubt that we can defeat them," she said, pepping up her Pokémon. "I love you all and train you guys to win, so let's knock down anyone who gets in our way. Deal?"

All five of her Water-types unanimously agreed, and Rain immediately began to train them one last time before the Whirl Cup began.

Pokedex Researcher
-Vincent Starmie

Vincent was used to a lot of situations that unnerved other people. Spending days aboard a submarine that hardly matched the total size of his hotel room, that was fine. Diving deep under the sea, where it was dark and the wild Pokemon were strong, he could handle that. Giving a scientific lecture when the audience was made up of the top members of the field and he was a still looking for college entry... well that had made him nervous, but he had pulled through that time.

But this... this was way out of his comfort zone.

The opening ceremonies of the Whirl Cup were about to begin. There were thousands of people filling the enormous pool-side stadium. Many of them didn’t care about science. They were fans of Pokemon battles, people who expected excitement and energy, not equations and explanations. And the competitors were top notch. At least one had been a regional Champion; a few others had come close. They had all been battling Pokemon for years.

Vincent had spent years at school instead, learning all the hows and whys. He never intended on putting his theories on battle to the ultimate test. He had just wanted to see how his understanding stacked up against his peers at the Institute. And yet, here he was, an official competitor.

It was his Pokemon that had done it, he was certain. Fang and Pearl, Captain and Isis. The four of them had overcome their opponents so far. They had helped him for so long, years in the case of the first two, months in the case of the latter. They dove into the ocean with him, to protect and assist him while he gathered samples and took observations. Now he had to help them do the best that they could do.

He believed in them.

Vintage much?
A young women looked at the mirror and sighed, "This is the best I can do". She was wearing a black short sleeve V-Neck blouse, Dark Indigo Relaxed-Fit Bootcut Jeans and Black Leather Flats. She placed her hairclip on her styled dark chesnut hair. She carefully fixed her hair and added a tinge of make-up. "If I continue this, I am going to quite late" she thought as she picked up her handbag and walked outside her room

Samantha looked at the stadium, "Ahh very stunning" she thought as she smiled. Sam looked at the people in crowd having fun, the noises of children laughing and males and females talking, chatting about events, trainers and betting.

Samantha smiled, "This atmosphere is very uplifting, I can only hope that I give a good show". She showed her pass to the security guard as she walked into the stadium from behind.

"Lets hope I can gain some sort of experience, Really Belinda and Tom" she thought looking at the other people in the stadium, "You had to force Samantha to do this, I hope they are watching....wait was I refering to myself in 3rd person, It must be the nerves".

"I just realised, I am quite punctual, considering that very little amount of people are present, Well Samantha, you still look good and you didn't waste time" she thought as she smiled and then sighed, "Not 3rd person again" she said in her mind

"I must give some mental training to my pokemon, They must not fall under pressure" she thought as she waited and waited

1000 Words
Senshi Kokorono

A boy with mint green hair and golden eyes was rushing to get ready, his cabin for the tournament was fairly small. There was a simple, driftwood bed with aqua blankets. A simple reading lamp graced a driftwood side table. The boy was pulling up a pair of gold-hued jeans. He then hurriedly a white, long sleeved shirt that zipped up and went to just below his ribs. He grabbed his belt and rushed out the door. Not bothering to put on the short sleeved, hooded jacket that was slung over a nearby wicker chair. He was obviously nervous; he could handle a crowd of people watching him preform for a panel of judges just fine, he would have never made the ribbon cup otherwise. But battling was a whole different thing. He turned and skidded as he raced towards the stadium. "I made it in time!" he sighed in relief. He then calmed down and began to think who he should use in his first battle.

May typed her password into the Pokémon storage system then placed Toxicroak's and Nidoqueen's pokeballs under the funnel and watched as they dematerialised.

"Thanks Mark, see you soon" She said as she shut down the computer. May walked over to the receptionist and took her number. She walked through the various corridors until she found her room. May opened the door and smiled. The whole room was a pale blue, probably too stick with the water theme. She had a quick shower then slipped her board-shorts over her one-piece bikini and sped to the stadium, her sandals flopping as she ran. When she got there she noticed that she wasn't that late. People where still filtering through into the seats and trainers where still arriving. May let all her poke mon out and they dove into the pool,

"Ok guys, let's get training!" she yelled.

Kingler and Crawdaunt began practicing there bubblebeam while closter was doing some underwater clamps. She turned to slowpoke. Just a glance was enough for him to know. Slowpoke dove into the water and May joined him, sitting on his back like a sort of makeshift pool lounge, using his tail as a rudder. This was not only for May, slowpoke was also getting some weight training.

Is my DS racist?
OOC: Ok, I am ready...I thought of a nick name for Vaporeon....its princess...sorry if i stole someones nickname...also, manaphy mare, your pretty christian I take it...

Seth yelled out to his Vaporeon.
"Princess! Surf now! Swampert! Focus Punch!" The pokemon followed the commands without a hint of doubt. They fought, until Princess refused to fight anymore. Seth sighed. She had a hint of royalty in her, and Seth knew it surfaced only when she battled. She was a vicious battler, but she was just to regal. He called out Sceptile, and asked him to scale the small hut to see if the ceremonies were starting. Sceptile climbed up then quickly motioned to get moving. Seth called back all his pokemon and ran. He pulled out his cell phone, and flipped it up. He held down the speed dial for #3, and put it to his ear.
"Tifa! Are you there? Is it stating?"
"Seth, of course. I wouldnt miss this. I will be watching you! Loves!" Seth smiled. He loved Tifa. She was his best friend, and he had a feeling for her. She was touring Hoenn right now, but she came to watch Seth fight. Seth ran into a small door, where a guard stopped him. Seth showed him his pass and the guard led him down to a special hall. The other trainers were waiting.
"Well guys, its about to begin..."

OOC: Ok, so when does the actual tourney start?

Billy and Kidd

Billy twirled the thick black hair of his fringe beneath his cowboy hat as he leaned against the stadium. People were already entering quickly, hurrying to their seats. One young dark-haired competitor sprinted inside, nearly out of breath. The boy seemed to be about sixteen, and an Espeon ran alongside him. Billy noted this. Espeon are quite rare and powerful.

Billy, in his mid twenties, founded the Sticky Holders. There were only two members, but, he was hopeful. Billy's pale skin and grey eyes suggested a man who had spent most of his life inside. This was true. Billy had never been an active child, he spent most of it inside, reading old crime novels. He was now 6"5, but very thin. The poncho he had on simply draped off him. He looked at his watch, to find the opening ceremonies starting in five minutes. He sighed. She was late. Again...

"Sorry, I was topping up my tan," stated Kidd as she approached. Billy simply rolled his eyes and entered the stadium. He wasn't much of a talker. Kidd was Billy's only colleague in the Sticky Holders, unless you counted Muk. She was slightly older, shorter, and plumper than Billy, but not so plump that you would consider her fat. Her skin was a light tan, and her eyes were dark brown. He chestnut hair was being blown about by the gentle breeze. She followed her colleague into the brilliant white stadium.

The Opening Ceremonies

The thirty-two competitors stood in the middle of arena, in four rows of eight. They faced a small podium, with a microphone at it, and five chairs behind it. The stadium seats were packed to bursting. Five people entered from a tunnel and took their seats. Wallace, Water Pokemon Master from the region of Hoenn. The Nurse Joys from Olivine and Cianwood. President Mortar, the leader of the Johto region, and a strange middle-aged man, who looked like a circus ringleader. The ringleader was first to approach the podium.

"Heeeellooooo Johto! And welcome once again, to your...WHIRL CUP!!!" He was annoyingly chipper. The thick handlebar moustache, and wrinkled skin served to make him seem positively ridiculous.

"I'm Stephan, your MC, and it is my proud duty to introduce... President Mortar!" he exclaimed with glee, before returning to his seat, as the old man took the stand. President Mortar cleared his throat, and began to speak in a deep, slow, dignified voice.

"As you all know, I am a man of few words. Therefore, I'll keep this short. You thirty-two have made it to the main Whirl Tournament. I commend you all heartily. However, it only gets more difficult from here, inevitably. I assure you, being on television, and having thousands watching you is an unpleasant pressure. Some of you are trainers. Some co-ordinators. But all of you are lovers of the Water type. That is what brings us all together today. Our common love of water. I urge you all not to forget this, in the rush of the tournament. Thank you." President Mortar sat down to a standing ovation. He was an old man, almost sixty-five, but he wore it well. His age seemed to give him a rare regal dignity, and Johto loved him. He'd won the election in a landslide. His soft white hair, few wrinkles, and still sparkling blue eyes created an old, yet young, and handsome leader. He was a man the nation felt they could trust. And he was.

As President Mortar returned to his seat, Stephan took the podium again.

"And now... Water Pokemon master...WALLACE!!!" The general consensus was that Stephan was far too eager. Thankfully, he returned to his seat, as Wallace took the microphone.

"Good afternoon. I'm afraid I have little to add to President Mortar's statement, except that to declare this Whirl Cup... OPEN!" he called, as beautiful rockets lit up the sky. Flashes of bright colours darted across the clouds magnificently.

"I've been instructed to tell you that the Whirl Ball will begin at 7 p.m. in the ballroom. Until then, eat, drink, prepare, and be merry. Good luck to you all!"

"Oooh... Ahhh..." Bloody hell, why is it that every time there's a fireworks display, the crowd can do nothing but ooh and ahh? thought an irritated Joshua. However, the president was approaching, and he sobered himself. It was standard fare. Mortar would shake each competitor's hand to wish them luck. As he shook the hand of the woman in her mid-twenties beside him, Joshua bit his lip. This was exciting. Meeting Johto's president.

"Good afternoon, son. I wish you all the best. And may Ho-oh watch over you." This, Joshua had come to understand, was a standard saying in Johto. "May Ho-oh watch over you" was said to males, whereas it was "May Lugia watch over you" for girls. The elderly man's hand was warm, yet it seemed fragile.

"Thank you, President Mortar." It was all he could say. What else needed to be said?

---

It was 3pm. Joshua, and his Pokemon were enjoying a light lunch on the beach, Aero was nestled up against his chest, as he stroked the silky fur while biting into a sandwich. Fritz was asleep on Joshua's other side, snoring quietly. Nozzle and Feebas appeared to be racing across the sea. Nozzle was winning. By a mile. Gem, mighty Tentacruel, was also in the water, though alone. She still didn't have much like for any of Joshua's party. Particularly her "master". Locking eyes with Joshua, she vibrated her carapace so it sounded like hissing. Joshua ignored this. He was used to it. War, however, launched a Solarbeam in warning above the jellyfish's head, and barked. He was next to Aero, who he was closer to than any of the other members of the team. Gem simply vibrated her carapace again.

"War, calm down. We need to take this afternoon to relax," Joshua told the Houndoom, while tickling Aero under the chin. Clad in only his board shorts, a picnic basket beside him, and sitting on a towel, under an umbrella, it would be easy to mistake Joshua for a normal beach-goer.

"Look at Fritz. He has relaxation down to a fine art," he joked. The sleeping Flygon hadn't even been stirred by the Solarbeam, and continued to snore. Joshua chuckled. Fritz was a true role model for the stressed. War seemed to smile at his trainer's joke, and lay down on his stomach. Other trainers would be working hard today. Joshua had decided it would be better to be rested for the main event.

---

"Your attire, Mr. Colquhoun. Tailored to your size."

"Oh, so that's why they asked that on the entry form..." Joshua took the package from the bellboy. In his red uniform, and stupid hat, he looked like a monkey, but spoke with an upper class voice. Ironic. 5pm. Two hours until the Whirl Ball. He was back at the cottage, his Water Pokemon and Fritz in their balls, Aero and War curled up on his bed. Joshua closed the door, and retreated to his room. He'd already tied matching red bow ties around the necks of Aero and War, who would be attending with him. Perfectly allowed. He'd have done something more fancy, but he was no stylist.

"Right. You two, out. I have to change."

Aero was the first to stir. War only left when Joshua simply pushed him off the bed. He changed quickly. Damn, I don't look half bad for once... he thought. A white dress shirt, with sterling silver cufflinks. Shiny black trousers with a matching belt, and red cummerbund. The red bow tie was snug around his neck, and, much to his chagrin, not a normal suit jacket, but evening tails. Joshua had only ever worn one pair of tails, but hated it, finding them restrictive. Awkward when you need to dance in them. However, these fitted well, and allowed movement. The shiny black shoes complimented the trousers, and finished the look. After combing his hair, he realised how smart he looked. He snapped his fingers at the mirror, and called in the Houndoom and Espeon.

"Ready to go?" he smiled. The three headed for the ballroom at 6.30.

OOC: Sorry I forgot to do this...post my character name in bold, whatever i will do it now...

Seth Nightingale
"5. 4. 3. 2. 1. Now." The small fox like creature lunged at the whale. It yelped as it felt the attack full force. The whale retaliated with an ice beam, knocking the fox to the ground. It stood, scoffed at the Lapras, and walked to Seth.
"Uh...Princess really? Well, beggars cant be choosers I guess..." He looked at his watch.
"Oh ****! Its 6!" He called back his pokemon and sprinted for the small house he was staying in. It was furnished nicely, and Seth threw his pokeballs onto the bed. He ran into the bathroom and grabbed his tux. He dressed quickly, then ran to the mirror to do his hair. He slipped the tie under the collar, and tied it. He walked back out with a princess outfit and took Princesses pokeball. He released her, then quickly dressed her. They walked out together, to the ball. He arrived, without a moment to spare. The ball had already started, and it was full. Lots of people were in fine gowns, and pokemon dressed in the best clothes were there aswell. A lady and her Glaceon came up to Seth. Princess looked eagerly at it. It cooed, and ran away, wanting the Glaceon to chase it. Of course, it was a male Glaceon, so it followed immediately.
"Princess I- I am sorry mam...let me go fetch your Glaceon."
"No no, its fine." She was incredibly beautiful, and Seth was drawn to her. She stuck out her smooth, fine hand and walked Seth over to the dance area. She put her hands on his shoulders and they slowly moved back and forth. She looked at him with scarlet eyes and he returned the glance. She twirled, revealing a silky, white dress. She smiled evilly at him, and he knew that he was trapped. He thought to himself.
"Damn...trapped in loves grasp...good thing I have something here...just in case." He chuckled to himself. He seemed to have that item whenever he needed it. Not that it bothered him. He thought to himself.
"This night will go down to ways. A, alone, or B, with someone." He chuckled again. She finished her twirl and pressed her body against his. He could smell her breath, a sweet mixture of what appeared to be wine and lip stick. She led him to a emptier side of the ballroom. She pulled him behind a corner and kissed him. She moaned. He felt her lips leave and looked around.
"Yup, definitely option B. Princess!" The Vaporeon ran to him, with the Glaceon chasing him. She was teasing him, and Seth felt bad. Princess could be the most snobby pokemon Seth ever had, but she was tough. The lady told her Glaceon to go back to the room, and Vaporeon followed. She led him down to hallway, and he stopped her.
"Wait, I am a idiot for stopping you now, but what if they call out names or something?"
"Your right...after?" Seth perked up.
"Definitely." They walked back and danced the night away.

OOC: So, not to be to descriptive, I put in this whole sex lol tease because it pretty much happened to me at Sadies...but yeah lol are we just posting this dance part of the ceremonies right now?

Michi Faber

Michi hurriedly tied the sturdy rope to her Pokemon and said, "Alright, full speed ahead!"

Her Dragonite and Lapras tugged at the small boat. Michi had rented it from a fisherman in Cinawood City the day of the competition. She left at nine in hopes that she would make the opening ceremony. The little boat held out for about an hour when the sail collapsed. She brought out all her Pokemon and tied Draco and Emerald to the boat in hopes that they could pull them along. She cursed, though, seeing they made little progress.

"Lo-Lo!" Squirt cried. Her Lotad had discovered the oars, finally.

"Yes! Alright, everyone grab an oar and get on one side," she said. Her Pokemon gathered up and all were ready to row in a flash.

"STROKE!"

She ship moved much faster, but they reached the Whirl Islands at 11:30. She returned all her Pokemon with word of thanks and ran to the throng of the island. She dashed through crowds searching for her lodgings when there they were! The building was placed on top of a hill facing the beach and only had one resident, Lillian Fletcher.

Mich knocked on the door, out of breath, and waited for her friends face to appear. The door opened quicikly and Lillian smiled brightly.

"You're here! Late as usual, but here as always!" she embraced Michi and took one of her bags.

"Your room's on the right. I suppose you want to get to the ceremonies, so you can freshen up and leave your things here. How does a picnic on the beach for lunch sound?"

"Great," Michi answered. She ran into the bathroom with a small bag of cosmetics. Her hair was a disaster from the boat ride, so she brushed it out till it looked acceptable. She touched up a few more places then reached for her other bag. Her outfit was right on top, as planned for if she was late, and she snatched it up as Lillian turned away. First the black cami, she thought.

"Okay, turn around," Michi said. She wore a cream colored shirt with three quarter sleeves. It went low so her black cami showed about an inch. As usual, her pants were jeans.

"Bravo, you really can clean up. Although I hope you picked something better for the dance. My dad can drive us if you'd like," Lillian offered.

"That's fine, I've still got twenty minutes. I want to see the beach."

Michi walked slowly down the beach behind her friend’s house. The waves splashed at her bare feet as she gazed at the stadium, a mile or so off. She sighed, walked back up to the grass and replaced her fine black shoes. An energy within her made her run. She was sprinting behind all the shops and stands on the main island, the stadium the only thing in her sights. It grew ever so closer and joy filled her heart. She whooped and started slowing down. She reached the outer gates with only five minutes to the ceremony.

Michi smiled all her brilliance onto the crowd. Every competitor was lined up into rows of eight. She stood in the very middle of the center which only made her smile larger. Her heart soared with joy and love of being the main attraction. The MC's voice blew over her head as she basked in the glory of being in such an amazing tournament. Don't start crying like you did when you first got accepted, she warned herself. She closed her eyes to calm down and breathed in the fresh air. President Mortar now walked to the stand. His speech was wonderful, but Michi was beginning to ache. She wished to be free of standing stock still now and her only consolation was Wallace opening the cup. The sky lit up and her eyes averted. Her mind was now set on the beautiful fireworks and their wonderful designs. Cheers filled the stadium and her mind wandered to the future battles. Looked at the explosions and imagined the battles-

"Keep your head in the game Miss," Mortar chuckled. Michi looked back down at earth and saw the President standing before her.

"So sorry sir, thanks for your concern," her voice shakily replied.

"Water under the bridge dear. May Lugia watch over you,"

Michi smiled back and nodded in a way of thanks. She was back to acting fidgety. She wanted to get moving and training before the dance.

OOC: Sorry it's so long, but I had to cram! Anyway, I'll have her join the dance tomorrow sometime late in the day (real time not RP time).

TomDraco

I'm a /tr/ainer.
"I don't get why they would launch fireworks during the middle of the day," mumbled Tom as he heard the pops and whines of the fireworks going off. Tom looked around the line of the 32 competitors, and tried to judge his competition. "Excuse me," a voice behind him said. Tom turned around and saw that the President of Johto was standing in front of him. "My apologies, Mr. President, I didn't notice you," Tom said sheepishly. "It's quite alright, may Ho-oh watch over you," said President Mortar as he shook Tom's hand. As the President walked away, Tom sighed. "My 1st time meeting a political figure, and I get suprised... Oh well," mumbled Tom to himself.

Tom walked back to his seaside cottage he got complementary for the tournament. Tom was at his computer, having a conversation with his mother over the video chat. "Tom, I got Dad to send you some good clothes for your ball," she said. "DON'T get them dirty, ok?" "Ok, Mom," Tom replied. "It should be arriving by Garchomp any minute," his Mom informed. "Alright, root for me!" Tom closed the connection and got up from the seat. He took off his black jacket, and headed outside. "Hey Dragonite, I'm open!" Tom shouted across the beach. "Drag! Draaagonnite!" Dragonite threw the football with great accuracy, and Tom caught it. "Muddy, catch!" Tom yelled. He threw the pigskin to the Swampert. Muddy held his hands out and tried to catch the ball, but it slipped through his slimy hands. Tom and Dragonite burst out laughing. "Bwaaahaha!" laughed Tom. "Drag...Dr...gon...nite..." chuckled Dragonite. Muddy turned around and headed into the water with Croconaw, Kingdra, and Kamo Gomu. Kamo was swimming near Kingdra, and was splashing her with water. "Kinggg, Kingdra!" the Kingdra cooed. "Golduckkk!" the blue duck called. Croconaw saw this, and she gritted her jaws. Croconaw blasted Kamo with a Hydro Pump, as he was about to splash Kingdra once more. "Duckkk!" cried Kamo. Croconaw continued to swim over and she bit down upon Kamo's tail with intensity. "Golddduckkk!" Kamo wailed as he experienced pain like never before. "Croconaw! Knock it off!" Tom commanded. She released the blue tail, and Kamo examined the bite marks that the blue jaws of the enraged beast, left. "Those two never stop", he said to himself. Tom looked to the horizon, "Hmm?" A dark dot was heading towards the beach at a high speed. "That must be Garchomp!" Tom exclaimed. The black-purple, winged lizard landed on the beach with a cloud of dust. "Garrrrr!" it cried. Tom took a bag off of its chest and opened it to find his clothes, and a Pokeball for Garchomp. "Thanks," said Tom as he returned Garchomp to its Pokeball.

After transporting the Garchomp back to Fallarbor Town, via the Pokemon Center's transmission machines, Tom was getting ready for the ball. He showered, deodorized, and clothed himself. He looked in the mirror and saw himself in his white dress shirt, with a dark blue tie, and black dress pants. "Hey, who's that good looking guy?" he said to his reflection. Dragonite saw this and looked confused. "Never mind," he said to Dragonite, who was wearing a black tuxedo, with a white bow tie. "Dragon..." Dragonite mumbled. "I know it's tight, but this is a formal dance, so you can't just go without clothing." Tom said, consoling Dragonite. "Let's go, 'wingman'." Tom said as they walked out of the door...

Vintage much?
Samantha witnessed the fireworks as she turned her neck up and then looked at the other 31 competitors

"This is going to be interesting" she thought as she watched and waited

-----

Samantha walked back to her accomadation, "I wonder how fancy it is" she thought to herself as she opened the door with her key

She walked in and went straight to her closet and opened it, "Maybe this or this..This or this" she said throwing clothes in the air

"Ahh this would work" she said looking at her Blue Shirred Front Halter Prom Dress and her silver dressy slingback heels.

"Now to fix my hair and my make-up" she said twirling while looking at her her dress. She then tied her hair into a stylish bun

"I feel like Betty Davis and a little bit of Grace Kelly as well as Greta Garbo" she thought as she picked up her purse

Samantha explained to herself, "Remember No boys, Just look pretty", she said as she placed her pokeballs in her purse and walked outside to where the ball is located
