Things Iris and Dento should improve over Misty and Brock

BW is following similar patterns to OS. But it will be too much of a rip-off if the writers make Isshu to similar to Kanto. I believe the fact that Iris is the 8th gym leader is a improvement over Misty's role in OS.

These are some things that I see the writers doing to pay homage to the original but also improve on them.

- Dont give Iris a "baby pokemon", her Kibago should be active in battles and not like Togepi

- Dont give Dento lame gags like chasing after girls

- Don't make Iris overly argumentative, it gets boring quick

- Have Iris and Dento obtain powerhouses

- Treat Ash as an equal (similar to DP)

- Cut the "family conflict back at the gym" gimmick, give better reasons for them to leave the gym

- Don't neglect/ignore them.


This is what happened to both Misty and Brock as the show progressed. Instead of developing them more and giving them smaller side stories, the writers seemingly kept them in the background and only gave them a filler once in a blue moon.

Brock getting a role in the Galactic finale was a nice start, something Iris/Dento need more of.

Give them Pokemon with actual personalities! In Kanto than Psyduck and Togepi, Misty's Pokemon were just robots used for battle. Hopefully we see some good Pokemon from them all. I wonder if Iris is going to have a full dragon team?

well misty and brock were in the begining series of pokemon, this might sound weird but it was to me alot more boring than now pokemon but still my favorite because i liked misty and brock the best, but i do think they have improved alot in the show making it alot better and more exciting than when pokemon first started, so i do think they will be an improvement, not because ill like them better though, i think if misty were to return it would be alot better aswell then when she was there in the begining. im alot more excited for BW than i was for AG and DP (accually i wasnt excited for them at all) just because of the two gym leader thing being like how it was when it first started with misty and brock (still wish brock was there though)

i think they got alot better getting more involved with the characters and pokemon because they realized they didnt with misty and brock, misty could have been SOOOO much more exciting which is why i want them to bring her back because i think they got alot better with the show, and misty and brocks pokemon were bleh, just there, nothing really to em besides mistys psyduck and togepi, and some of brocks pokemon were pretty good

It doesn't have to be anything big to improve them with. Just give them each something to do besides just carrying a gymleader title around. They could still do something. Dento could do musicals and Iris could learn dragon summoning or whatever.

i do agree with that, i think being a gym leader was good for her because we saw how much more mature she had become before the battlefrontier, i want her to return NOW after she has become a gym leader to show how much she has improved and continuing toward her dream of being a pokemon master which she cant do caged in a gym, but thats my opinion dont quote me because i dont want to turn this into a misty thread, thats what i think

It's too late for that, the character has now been gone for a decade.

The writers are phasing out most of the older cast.

Two things about Iris:

1. Do something cool, maybe she's so young she has to travel and earn her title, or maybe her journey is to become the eighth Gym Leader (which would entail lots of battling and evolutions.).

2. Not argue with Ash, or anything extrem like that with Misty. I might get flamed, but I want the female character from the show I grew up with to stay unique. From what I've seen of the previews, she's different in a good way. Plus, the writers seem to do fine at giving the girls distinct personalities. Koon x Iris.

Misty was only in the show for 5 years. That's not a long time to "grow up" with a character.

If you said Ash, Brock or TR on the other hand, who were around for 13 years, that would be different.

Mine.

* Give the characters some things to hide, especially with Iris, who should drop a few hints over the episodes.
* Give them teams that can hold their own agains in-game CPUs. A lot of characters (especially Brock) had teams that couldn't make it passed the first Elite Four.
** Have them battle more. And I'm not talking about throwaways with team rocket.
* Gags can appear every once in a while, but when a character is just there for gags, it's a no-no.

Hmm, you'd want them to be good supporting characters, who battle more, and have pokemon with distinct personalities...Not saying that's a bad thing, but doing so will take some effort, and with BW predicted to be "fast paced" it may take away plot development from Ash in the long run. Give them a little more, but I think things should be kept to a minimum. The writers have improved over the years, but they haven't proved that they can properly handle the main goals of two characters, let alone three.

I guess we'll just have to wait and find out once BW progresses.

An improvement they can do with Iris and Dento over Misty and Brock is that you don't make them like Misty and Brock. That is to say give them all that the original supporting protagonists were deprived off, and it pretty much translates to whatever has been posted in this thread so far.

Give them more decent screentime, make them do more important thing rather than stand all day being cool, let them have interesting personalities, give them some good Pokemon and let those Pokemon do something important as well, best that the writers make them chase after their goals (that is if they have any) unlike Misty and Brock, just have goals 4 fun...
