• Hi all
Just a notice, we recently discovered that someone got into a moderator account and started hard deleting a load of key and legacy threads...around 150 threads have been lost dating back to 2007 and some weeks ago so we can't roll the forums back.
Luckily no personal data could be accessed by this moderator, and we've altered the permissions so hard deleting isn't possible in the future
Sorry for any inconvenience with this and sorry for any lost posts.
  • Hi all. We had a couple of reports of people's signatures getting edited etc. in a bad way. You can rest assured this wasn't done by staff and nobody has compromised any of our databases.

However, remember to keep your passwords secure. If you use similar passwords to elsewhere which has been accessed, people and even bots may be able to access your account.

We always recommend using unique passwords, and two-factor authentication if you are able. Make sure you're as secure as possible

Things pokemon has helped you learn in real life.

This is going to sound stupid, but we are learning Sine, Cosine and Tangent in geometry and you have to remember the order they go in.

well what helped me with the Sine or Sin for short is the Sinnoh. because with Sin its opposite your number on the triangle over the Hypotenuse. opposite and hypotenuse is is abbreviated O/H so I took the Sin and add the O/H at the end

which makes Sinoh! even though it is spelled wrong it still helps me to remember the order.

so has pokemon helped you in the real world at all?

I always just used SOHCAHTOA...

I can't say Pokemon's actually helped me learn anything, though I've certainly exercised my mathematical knowledge working out things relating to it.

Water is Super effective against Fire.
In all seriousness, I don't know what it has taught me. Possibly patience because of breeding and ev training.

How about Some Old Hippie Caught Another Hippie Tripping On Acid?

Kacho

You are next.
organization/account
-when you EV train, you want to keep track

planning
-you can only have 4 max movesets, how are you piecing it together? breeding? TM? move tutor?

patience
-breeding can be "a butter in the wrong bread" when the nature, ability, and gender are both randomized. not helping with everstone either, sometimes you get REALLY lucky that you get OTHER natures...

timing
-balance between gaming and life

chemistry
-some things in pokemon gives insight in ELEMENTARY chemistry, like water deposits in rocks, when frozen, cracks rock open, thus ice is super effective against rock.
(how psychic and poison work, IDK)
You also won't be learning organic chemistry in pokemon, it doesn't work that way.

English
-when I move to US, i had to learn some english, so I start using pokemon moves, etymology of names and figure things out, heh.

Biology
-not actual biology, but fictional if you think about how fire types pokemon has cells that secret products that hardens the inner lining of their bodies to prevent their body from dying or combustion, or how electric pokemon have electrons flowing around their furs, or other things.....

English if talking about game itself. As for Pokemon community - a lot about simple society and socialisation in general.

Heh. I'll remember that one, now.

I use this mnemonic:

Silly Old Harry Caught A Herring Trawling Off America.

Yeah.

I LEARNED FRIENDS ARE FOREVER

4KIDS IS THE DEVIL

Well, Pokémon has helped me develop my own art style over time by using it as a foundation. I owe the anime that.

And I guess I learned how to use strategy. Oh, and it helped me learn that Pokémon is for everyone, that I can be an adult and still enjoy the games. It helps keep a part of my childhood even if my mom tells me to forget about it and move on.

Though honestly, I can't think how Pokémon helped me learn. I know there is something else, but I can't quite remember it.

I think it improved my English vocabulary in general. I mean, there aren't a lot of 8-year-olds who know what the word "synthesis" means. And a foreign one at that.

Also, the Voltorb Flip thing seems to have helped me in thinking logically. Logical maths problems seems a bit easier after becoming a fan of that game.

Tru Dat! I have learned mathematical skills, and also to think on my feet from playing 2,000 hours of Pokemon.
