• Hi all
Just a notice, we recently discovered that someone got into a moderator account and started hard deleting a load of key and legacy threads...around 150 threads have been lost dating back to 2007 and some weeks ago so we can't roll the forums back.
Luckily no personal data could be accessed by this moderator, and we've altered the permissions so hard deleting isn't possible in the future
Sorry for any inconvenience with this and sorry for any lost posts.

I probably mentioned it already, but I don't know if I mentioned it on this topic. This has always bugged me. I was never sure if I should put it in this topic, or the 'doesn't make sense' topic. Because this both annoys me to no end, and also doesn't make sense to me at the same time.

Mega Evolutions:

Seriously, what's the point of them? They're evolutions that a Pokémon can temporarily use in battle? Can't they already evolve? Why do we need them? How do the Mega Stones work? How can people even tell which ones work on which Pokémon? Why can only certain Pokémon use them? And for that matter, why didn't we know about them until Gen VI, despite the fact that Kalos has been using them this whole time and apparently they've existed all along? You're seriously telling me that no other Pokémon researcher or Professor bothered to check in with that Region's Professor to see if any advancements or new discoveries had been made? Isn't that supposed to be their job? What have they been doing this whole time?

Eh, did you skip the gen 6 games? Cause like half of your questions were explained ingame.

Well it is an evolving video game franchise, you do have to employ a bit of suspension of disbelief every now and then to allow for new features to be developed. If you start think about the games like how you're thinking about Mega's then a whole bunch of stuff doesn't make sense.

Different generations brought up different things to change up the formula.
1. Well, the games came to existence.
2. Special Split- This allowed the game to balance out and Pokemon like Shuckle to exist.
3. Abilities- This gave Pokemon different properties. (Natures don't count in this as they affect the Pokemon's stats. They hardly have an in-battle effect).
4. Physical/Special Split - This allowed for better move diversity.
5. Oddly enough- Not much that changed battling per se. Hidden Abilities gave certain Pokemon bigger uses (esp. how Politoed and Ninetales started the weather wars). The way the game played on a battling screen was largely the same.
6. Mega-Evolution- This allows a Pokemon in one slot to get buffed. It's sort of the wild card of the game, and it allows a bit more strategy while preparing for a set. In-game, this allows you to get one Mega-Evolution to work in your favor.
7. Z Moves- They seem to work on a similar one-time premise of Mega-Evolution, but to what degree?

1. First we're talking about Pokemon logic, where Prof. Oak talked about there being 150 Pokemon which never got changed in HG/SS.
2. There has been a hypothesis that the Mega Evolved universe has been separately established from the other universe. The Delta Episode mentioned this while scientists were sending a meteor somewhere else that was a different Hoenn without Mega Evolution. The device they tried to use was called a Game Link Cable.

I wish there were more abilities that increased the likelihood of encountering certain types, like Static for electric types and Magnet Pull for steel. Or at least a way to influence encountering an specific horde.

Because I've spent the past two days spamming Sweet Scent on Route 7 looking for a shiny Hoppip and I'm sat here with three shiny Psyducks and a shiny Roselia. I mean don't get me wrong a shiny is a shiny but is the RNG having a laugh?

Edit: Finally managed to get one, but not before getting a fourth shiny Psyduck :D

I am going to get a lot of steam for this, but it annoys me how people are complaining about no Fire starters being quadrupeds.

Why does it even matter? The number of legs something walks on is not important at all. If it were reversed, would we be getting people complaining about how no starter is a biped? If you ask me, it is a very pointless thing to complain about.

Apparently people are still obsessed with the mewXditto fancanon, despite it being debunked by a staff member.

The sheer absence of Ice Pokemon in RSE. I need an Ice type to face the dragons later on; something to cover all types. Back then, I had to do either than or other dragons. But there's only THREE lines of Ice type; one of which is a legendary, one of which requires timing to be available, and is essentially impossible to get if the internal battery dies

Reshiram and Zekrom are still not found in one game together. Both are so far still version exclusive to each other. At least Emerald and Platinum allowed both mascots of R/S and DP to be in the same game.

Whenever I play the Meowth stage in Shuffle (stage 37) it constantly replaces one of the coins with a breakable block. Never gives me a coin either, just stupid blocks. Out of all the tiles on the board it always picks one with a coin. I don't know how people can grind coins in this stage because it never works for me no matter what I try. I don't even know why I'm still bothering with this game anymore. Had it not been Pokemon I would have deleted it day 1.

Oh I hear you there!
Played Shuffle for a while when it came out, but this game is waaaaay too frustrating to be fun (not even talking about the free-to-play-pay-to-win aspect of it here). Main games are a lot more enjoyable, and PokémonAmi also has puzzle games that require SKILLS and not LUCK&MONEY to play! :)

I agree with this, so much. Shuffle is stressful and annoying, not entertaning at all. I am so happy I gave it up, there is literally no point. The main games are so much better and fun.

I gave up on Shuffle too. I was tired of wasting energy to try and catch Pokemon and defeat them and also how I could never continue trying when I was so close to defeating Pokemon because I don't have enough energy to continue without spending real world money. And then there are those aggravating giveaways that require you to be within some high score percentage. It is even worse that the US is so much lower than the Japan's. I will NEVER get any Mega Stones other than what story mode gives me and that frustrated me. I slave and work so hard for nothing!

Couldn't agree more. At a certain point, the difficulty level spiked dramatically and it took massive grinding efforts to get past Boss Pokemon. The daily special levels only added to the frustration.

When wondertrading you see one of those people with the "ShinyxShiny" or "Shiny4Shiny" tags only to get a Zigzagoon or Wurmple when you trade off your bred pokemon for wt

Also, RNG has not been kind to me, in the league I'm in, 3 of my 4 losses were due to either missed attacks where my opponent lands something like Focus Blast just fine, or first turn wake ups, one battle happened 3 times in a row.

I hate having to trade to get certain pokemon evolutions. I hate it mainly because I have nobody who plays Pokemon except an old friend that I don't talk to that often anymore

Even now in the GTS people still want rare and legendary Pokemon as well as shiny Pokemon 4 regular Pokemon such as Tyranitar and Alakazam how exactly is that fair. I guarantee this is been brought up way too many times but yesterday I wanted dragonair, and someone even wanted a level 100 Shiny Mew not to mention the legendary bird Trio came up all of the Johto Legends as well as Mewtwo and of course Shaymin and Keledo

Pokémon generation reveals tend to require more than a little disbelief suspension in general. If Surge is "The Lightning American", that means people from the continent Unova is on have access to Kanto and presumably didn't tell anyone about the different pokémon there (except, possibly that one kid who mentioned munna). And why would Professor Oak, presumably a "world authority on all pokémon" not think to look just on the other side of a mountain range or ask some people from there if there were other pokémon there. Or how the entire population of Kanto could be unaware of the likes of murkrow and houndour literally living in the region for a decade or so because apparently the curfew was strict enough that absolutely nobody was outside after dusk. Let alone slugma, which doesn't even have the excuse of being nocturnal, so why no one, even the pokémon experts knew about it is a big mystery.

Thank you. This is exactly how I feel. It bothers me that people keep complaining that Pokemon aren't on four legs. Seriously, who gives a ****? Why does it even matter?

One thing that bothers me is how people keep speculating that same damn things every generation. When a new gen is announced I jump on the forums everyday to see what people are thinking about how how excited they are for the newest games but it's the same stuff every time. Yeah I get it you want a pegasus Rapidash evolution, cerberus Houndoom evolution, you want more useless preevolution pokemon (looking at the tenuous and lame links people make between Miltank and Tauros ('They're bovine-esque they must be related!", Heracross and Pinsir. (Single stage big bugs), you want a dolphin pokemon and you want your weirdly specific and obscure real life animal to be made into a Pokemon (maybe with specific typing). Every damn generation. How about we just be happy with what they give us?

Who gives a ****? The people that complain about it, I would imagine.

I'm not sure I get the logic behind people getting their backs up over people complaining about this, but people expressing over and over that, [Insert Concept Here] should be made into a Pokemon and complaining that it hasn't been done yet is fair game. It's all the same thing. Some people want a dolphin, some people want some vague sub-species of something that a handful of people have never even heard of, and some people want a Fire starter that starts on four legs and stays that way. It's as simple as that.
