• Hi all
Just a notice, we recently discovered that someone got into a moderator account and started hard deleting a load of key and legacy threads...around 150 threads have been lost dating back to 2007 and some weeks ago so we can't roll the forums back.
Luckily no personal data could be accessed by this moderator, and we've altered the permissions so hard deleting isn't possible in the future
Sorry for any inconvenience with this and sorry for any lost posts.

Things that grind your gears!

KyogreThunder

Call of Fate
The fact Zapdos' Hidden Ability changed from Lightningrod to the underwhelming Static grinds my gears. The Legendary Beasts didn't need Inner Focus as HA, either.

Kung Fu Ferret

The Usurper
I know this is cliché, but I still think three Fire/Fighting starters is too much, especially back-to-back. Chimchar's line would've been fine as pure Fire. And Tepig's evolutions should've been Fire/Poison or Fire/Dark, or even Fire/Ground. I'm just glad Fennekin and Litten broke the "curse".

When the snow plows come through shortly after I shovel the drive way it gets me pretty mad.

I HATED the ultra-slow snow in Sinnoh

Heavy Balls not being able to capture the Tapus and Beldum in Sun and Moon due to negative catch rate. It would've been nice to see Beldum in a Heavy Ball though but at least it's fixed in USUM.

Hold up, negative catch rates exist?!

Hold up, negative catch rates exist?!

Look up how apricorn balls work. They modify the catch value of the species instead of the catch rate (which other balls do). The Heavy Ball is the only ball that adds or subtracts from the catch value instead of multiplying it. When a pokémon is below 100kg it's a -20 modifier. If a pokémon has a low catch value (like the Tapus, which have a catch value of 3) it gets dropped down to 0 in Sun and Moon, which means a zero probability of capture. In other games it's bounded on the lower side to 1. On the other hand, the Heavy Ball is by far the best ball to catch heavy pokémon with a low catch value, like Groudon. Groudon is heavier than 300kg, which means a +30 to the catch value, so Groudon gains a catch value of 33, or a x11 multiplier. This beats out Timer Ball (max x4), Dusk Ball and Repeat Ball (max x3.5), and Ultra Ball (x2). It's also the best for Lugia, which gets a +20 to the catch value to become 23, effectively a x7.66 multiplier. Only Master Balls do better.

Anyway, what grinds my gears is the new legendary distribution. It appears I don't get it in my country for unknown reasons... unfair again when other countries get them, and nobody seems to want to trade legendaries on the forums either. I don't want to go to GTS, no way to get good natures there (or a guarantee that they're 7th gen origin) and it's filled with hacked pokémon. Not to mention the legit event legendaries won't even be allowed on GTS due to the ribbons.

Apparently the catch rate goes negative, causing the game to set the catch rate to 0. But anyways, it still annoys me that you could only obtain up to one of every kind of Apricorn ball in Sun and Moon and USUM per save file.

Find a wild Graveler, attack it, discover it has sturdy, it uses self-destruct...

I'm also convinced that Acid Spray only exists as a move to make wild tentacool even more annoying.

How about when you have a horde of Graveler in Gen VI? You think Surf will get you some nice EXP, but one or more have Sturdy. Or when you try to hunt for a shiny Psyduck in a horde, but you have to deal with "this Pokemon has Cloud Nine" over and over

The fact that you can't catch a wild Pokemon when there's more than one on the battlefield. Especially if one or two or three or four or even five are shinies.

How the green Casual Shorts (shorts that the female player character from SM wears) is exclusive to Ultra Moon, especially for Ultra Sun players, and for version exclusive clothing as well and its frustrating because it takes a lot of time on Festival Plaza to ask out random passerbys to get the clothing you want.

Typical, one of the only times that Pokemon doesn't have an "are you sure" screen is naming the rival in Crystal. Now I have to play through the entire intro sequence again because I was button mashing and named my rival AAAAAAAA. Thank you for nothing Scary Game Squad.

Yeah that would definitely have been very frustrating too. It was just giving the policeman in Elm's lab whatever name you found on your rival's ID after you first battled your rival. It would've been better to save right before entering Elm's lab.

Cresselia is female and Darkrai is genderless. That always irked me. They're supposed to be counterparts of a sort. Why does one get to have a gender and another doesn't? It feels uneven. It also feels uneven that you can catch one and the other is only an event

The fact that Happiny doesn't learn Seismic toss as an egg move but its evolutions able to is a bit annoying. I understand the reasoning but I wanted to have a tiny Happiny use it on a huge Pokemon. Don't get me wrong I'm glad its evolutions can learn it now I just would like it to be the entire line.

The fact that gift Pokémon do not use the Shiny Charm shiny rate but rather use the base shiny rate. I would definitely like a better chance to get a shiny Poipole.

To me it's more annoying that Cresselia's type is outright countered by Darkrai when Cresselia is supposed to be the one countering Darkrai.

Cresselia should have been changed into a Fairy-type or at least Psychic/Fairy during Gen 6.
