The music: There are few gorgeous city/route themes in the game, but overall the soundtrack was quite bad, especially when compared to the soundtracks of the two previous gens. The "rock-ish" battle themes were awful, IMO.

The characters: For the sake of making this post shorter, I will compare the characters only with Gen V and IV characters. First, the rivals: We had three amazing rivals in Generation V and the three of them (well, at least Bianca and Cheren) wen through a lot of character development, plus their teams were at least decent. Barry was a pretty cool rival in Generation IV, not the best one, but far from the worse. He was memorable, funny and battling him was fun, specially in the post-game. In XY, though? We had Shauna, who is very cute, but sucks at essentially everything (battling included), Calem who not only looks bad, but is extremely weak and boring and also Tierno and Trevor... I don't even know what to say about those two. The worse part is that they go through ZERO character development, from the start to the end of the game, they are basically the same shitty characters.

Now, the champion: Diantha is so weak. Her team is so boring and doesn't fit her at all (besides Gardevoir and perhaps Gourgeist). Giving her two dragons in the Generation that Fairy-type was introduced (meaning 99% of the players would have a Fairy-type in their teams) was so dumb, plus Aurorus is just too weak to be in a champion's team. But the worse thing to me, again, is that she isn't memorable at all and do go through character development. Sure, Cynthia did essentially nothing in DPPt, but she still is the hardest champion in the series, having a well balanced team with perfect IVs. Alder was weak too, but he appears frequently in BW and B2W2, giving advice, he was a very present and memorable figure in Generation V (not to mention the thing about his dead Pokémon and he had great music themes). Iris was nice too, for a number of reasons.

Now, the "Evil Team": I remember the pre-release days, when a lot of people speculated about what role the "Team Flare scientists" would have in the game. There was a lot of expectations for Team Flare and its members, since the previous two teams were really great, but in the end, Team Flare managed to be even more boring and disappointing than Teams Aqua and Magma from Generation III. The sad thing is that I really like Team Flare's goal and I see a lot of potential on it, plus the Team Flare characters look so good, they are the best-looking team so far, without a doubt. It a damn shame Game Freak wasted the opportunity of making the best evil team in the series. Hopefully they will improve those characters in the next game.

The Elite Four was also quite boring and very weak and that is a shame because their designs are really good, especially Malva's. Why they didn't use Mega Evolutions and teams of six Pokémon is beyond me. In short: The Gym Leaders weren't that great either, sadly. The only truly memorable character in the game was the Sycamore, since he battles the player and he is also hot. In terms of characters, Generation VI is easily the worst one so far.

Besides all of I've said, there was a lack of stuff to do between the third and eight gyms, you essentially only walk from a city to the other, beat the weak gym leaders and move to the next one, until the """"climax"""" of Team Flare's plot and then you go to the league and then comes the end of the game. Almost literally the end of the game, since there is almost no post-game content, besides the Looker/Emma side-quest.

So, I really don't understand when someone says Generation VI was awesome and say, Generation IV was bad. It just doesn't make sense. Yes, there is some stuff XY did right, but overall those two games are probably the worst ones in the series. Hopefully they will make TONS of improvements in the third version/sequels. If not, then I hope there are remakes to maybe redeem this generation. Somehow.

Oooh, let me join!

1) The difficulty: The game always babied you with EVERYTHING you needed to destroy everyone outside the Battle Maison. What's that? You can evolve your monsters in the middle of a battle and only a select few can do so against you? Golly!

2) The Elite Four: They suck big time for not even bothering to upgrade their teams with new Pokemon. Same goes to the Gym Leaders.

3) The Battle Chateau: Only because every single Gym Leader, Elite Four, and Champion get upgraded teams at the cost of having less Pokemon to use and no new members outside of the lines they own.

4) The Kalos People: They're all a bunch of idiots who don't do a thing when someone announces publicly the destruction of their land.

5) Diantha: Worst. Champion. Ever. Even Lance beats her down.

6) The Music: Like 3/4s of the music was bad, and the Gym Battle Theme was perhaps the most quiet, less-blood pumping track ever.

7) This game has a post-game?

This so much this, it's a shame this site doesn't have the option to add likes to a post, you've pretty much nailed all the gripes i have with X&Y though i still find it to be a solid game though.

Nothing much...
The only part I liked battling was with Viola. No XP share, took Froakie, lost to her 1 time because I rushed and forgot to save.

Clearly, XY was made for the graphics. Not storyline, music, or battling.

I agree for the most part. As I earlier in the thread, X and Y was fun but they just feel like run-of-the-mill Pokemon games in the end. Yeah, they introduced a new type, mega evolutions, and are in 3D, but that's not enough to make them stand out when other things are lacking. And this makes me wonder why Gen. 5 gets so much hate for actually doing things differently for a change.

2) The Elite Four: They suck big time for not even bothering to upgrade their teams with new Pokemon. Same goes to the Gym Leaders.

They were the same in Diamond and Pearl and the entirety of Gens 1-3.

4) The Kalos People: They're all a bunch of idiots who don't do a thing when someone announces publicly the destruction of their land.

Same with Johto and Hoenn.

yes I'm back
As much as I love the XY games, it does have it's flaws.
It just seemed so easy. The EXP Share's new feature made my team level up so fast that battles were a breeze! I always liked a little challenge...

Also, the post-game was disappointing. No BF or something similar :(

Not to mention the amount of new pokemon *sigh*

Ah hah, uh. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I distinctly remember Fire Red and Leaf Green having Elite Four rematches with much stronger pokemon.

Ahh, yes. I would have to agree with this, but isn't every game these days? Ok, there are a few amazing exceptions to this.

Anyway, overall, I love X and Y, it had so many great things about it! I loved most of the soundtrack, especially the Route 15-17 themes, which don't sound like anything that you'd except from a Pokémon game. Definitely the best since Route 10 in BW. This game is bone-dry when it comes to post-game, only the Looker side-quest and a few legends, not to mention competitive battling. The few new pokemon aren't the best of the bunch in terms of design and concept, but many of them make up for it in usability online. Some of which, I can say, are OP. There are a few gems here and there, but overall, Gen VI shows that GF may easily be running out of ideas.

Mega Evolutions......now where do I get started....Ahh yes, many of these pokemon needed a regular evolution, not a Super-Saiyan form. There is also an unfair catering to genwunners. Charizard, undoubtedly everyone's favorite from Gen 1, gets two megas, which are extremely good online, while for the other two..well, they're dismal in terms of usability, relative to Charizard, at least. I do enjoy some of these megas, though, such as Mawile, Heracross (swept many teams for me online), the other bugs, and even Gardevoir. They pretty much only went for fan-favorites, though. I am still waiting for GF to release Sceptilite and Swampertite, for fairness to the other Hoenn starters; which do need it, unlike Blaziken. Also, there are pokemon who deserve megas, such as Corsola, or other pokemon that aren't used very often.

I enjoyed the gameplay of XY, the EXP share wasn't that bad, but yeah, they need a hard-mode for this game like BW2. Also, the story wasn't that great. The last three gens had good stories, but they decided to break the chain here. The champion wasn't that great, although Lance is worse, in my opinion. Diantha has no importance whatsoever in the story, and is probably a little worse than Lance; Lance hacks his Dragonites in, and if Diantha is worse than that, then that is saying something.

Overall, X and Y are great, but have many flaws that could, and should, be fixed in the next gen. Now, if only GF read our ideas and took them seriously.

I'd say Corsola needed a normal evolution. But now Eevee seems to be the only one who will keep getting normal evolutions until it runs out of typings.

I think I said this in another thread somewhere, but I'll say it here as well because it fits.

Even without using the Exp. share these games were way too easy. There needed to be a difficulty setting in the beginning of the games. Like an 'easy' 'normal' and 'hard (challenge)' modes.

Actually, aside from the distribution of pokémon who did & didn't get one, there was one thing about Mega Evolution I didn't like. When mega evolution was first introduced in stuff like the games & in Pokémon Origins, I thought they were trying to portray it as a mysterious transformation of myths and lore that is regarded as a fairy tale to most of the public while a select few know the secret. Plus, the term "mega evolution" would be a modern term and the transformation never had an actual name for all these years. However, when you travel around trying to learn more about it, it feels more like a common process that everyone knows about pretty well. I know this may not be much but I just wish they kept mega evolution more like a great mystery until you reached the tower of mastery

Golden Sun 4?
I really hated the post game, next to nothing to do.

Also, I hate how unvaried some Megas are. I mean Pokémon like Gengar and Blaziken REALLY didn't need one, and now they are super op (they're in Ubers). Some Pokémon like Sabeleye or Flygon which have the potential should have got them.

Also, you had no real evil rival, which I used to like!

That ater the Looker quest, there's pretty much nothing else you can do.

Beating the elite four again is booooorring...

The post game, or lack thereof I should say, was disappointing. I also would have liked to see longer, less straight forward routes. In older games I remember getting lost traveling, and I loved it. Perhaps it's because I'm an adult now and the puzzles are no longer confusing, but in generation 5 and 6 the routes have felt extremely short and straight forward with no real extra areas or "secret" places to find.
