Things you were thought pronounced a certain way but was wrong once you seen the anime?

Like things you thought were pronounced a certain way but once you seen the anime say the name it wasn’t what you thought it sounded like.

My most recent example was thinking Mohn was pronounced like the “mon” in Pokémon. However when Lusamine said it’s pronounced “moan” I was shocked.

.....How it's actually pronounced I don't acknowledge and use Skid-do like it should be. Ski-doo is just plain dumb.

Unova. I kept pronouncing it like "you know-va" until I saw the anime.

Also, Clemont's name because for some reason, my brain wants to be all proper and say "cle mawnt" with an emphasis on the letter t.

You know it's named after the jet ski thing, right? It's "Ski" + "Skid" + "kid" + "Sea-Doo(R)". That's where it's getting its pronunciation from.

And I'm probably speaking for everyone with being annoyed at how "Illumise" was pronounced. Not "ILL-oo-miss" or "ILL-oo-mize", no, it has to be "ILL -oo-MEE-zay".

I pronounced Kyogre like “kee-aura-gee” and also pronounced Poocheyena like “poo-cheen-ya” and Mighteyena like “might-cheen-ya”.

Mind you I was a child and I didn’t know until the anime came up.

I don't usually watch the dubbed version of the anime, but when I played Black and White in English I remember thinking that Dent's English name was supposed to be pronounced as "Chi-lan", but then I realized that it's pronounced more like "Si-lan" when I watched the first few episodes of the Best Wishes dub.

    Not a Pokemon but Guzma.

No it will always be “G + uh + z + ma”! Not Gooz + ma!

I thought that it was pronounced Goo-zu-ma. That’s how it’s pronounced in Japanese. Is it pronounced Guhzma in the English dub or you just prefer saying it Guhzma?

I pronounced Kyogre as Kai-org before seeing the Team Aqua and Magma finale episodes in Hoenn. I feel embarrassed to admit that.

They say it as Gooz + ma. Guzma isn’t gooey. =(

I was surprisingly right about the pronunciation of Arceus. The reason it was surprising is because I originally pronounced it that way as a joke on one of my old vlogs. I didn't realize that was actually how it was pronounced.

The one that got me though was Kyogre. It's an Ogre that's a Kai? Kyogre.

It's pronounced more like "Kai-orca" in Japan at least, which makes more sense since kai [海] means ocean and Kyogre's based on an orca whale. I'm not quite sure why it was romanized as Kyogre, however.
  15. Rayquaza. When RS first came out I thought it was pronounced like Ray-quah-zuh, but when the Deoxys movie came out I found out it was actually Ray-quay-zuh. To this day it irritates me when I hear people refer to it as Ray-quah-zuh. At least when I used to call it that I had the excuse that it hadn't been shown in the anime yet; the people calling it that now have no such excuse for not knowing it.

Well, it's Rekkuza in Japanese. And putting an "ay" sound there instead of "ah" sounds unnatural, so I refuse to pronounce it that way.

  17. That is very disrespectful to the people who created it. I refuse to pronounce any Pokemon's name any way other than the way the people at Nintendo (or whoever makes the anime) intends me to because that would feel like desecrating their work.

Not really, considering they themselves have pronounced "Rattata" like four different ways and inconsistently at that.

Everyone in my elementary school would pronounce it as Ray-quah-za.

It wasn't until I saw movie 7 that I learned the dark...dark truth about its actual pronunciation, Ray-Quay-Za.

Rayquaza was RayKwanzaa in my school and I still laugh thinking about it. I refuse any other pronunciation but this one
