This may have nothing to do with DP

Okay, what is all the hype with the shinies? Why are you wasting your time, attempting to catch a differently colored pokemon that looks worse than the actual pokemon. A green pelipper? Oh wow, how wonderful, lets take 2 weeks off my life to get oneZ! Not really. I don't understand how stupid you all are to let the Pokemon Company sway you into wasting your lives getting "Shiny Pokemon"

It's not even an achievement to get a shiny. If anything, it makes you look like an idiot, for wasting time to get a crappy looking pokemon. Brag about your shinies all you want, flaunt you disgustingly ugly pokemon.

I agree. Although this should go in the GPD. Most shinies look horrific, don't have anything Special about them, nothing. There are a few decent ones too, especially Umbreon. But, they're a gimmick, and have little worth for their rarity.

What's wrong with getting a unique pokemon? If you don't like shinies, then just don't try to catch one. I, myself, want to catch a shiny in DP. I, myself, used to hate contests, but I didn't let that bother me. In fact, I tried one and loved it. It gives you the unique feeling of "My Pokemon is better than yours!" and capturing a shiny gives you a similar feeling. A great feeling. "See that shiny Charizard over there? That's my Pokemon!"

More like "See that weak, ugly shiny Charizard over there? Yeah, that's mine!" You look like an idiot, and catching a shiny doesn't do anything, you don't look like a better trainer, you like actually like a worse trainer, and you should be ashamed, and go hang yourself.

Shinies were actually worth the search in S/G/C. They were stronger than the normal ones. I don't usually go crazy searching for them, but I'm happy when i manage to randomly find a good one.

People have different tastes. I actually think that the Shiny pelipper is better than regular Pelipper. Also, it takes patience looking for a shiny. Not many people catch one. SO WHAT THE **** IF IT LOOKS UGLIER THAN BEFORE? It's still rarer than any freaking Pokemon out there. It's not supposed to be pwnage or something, think of it as an albino. Yeah, so owning a shiny makes you weak? So If i owned an albino Rat, that would make me a weak breeder and I automatically suck.... How mature.

This topic is simply begging for a flame war. I like my shinies. You may not. They take a while to find, are mere NOVELTIES (and they are SHINY! And shiny things > all) and are something to prove you have patience.... or luck. If you don't like them, that's YOUR problem.

Las time I checked, in R/S/E, the shiny Pokemon had the same stats. So please, I am dying to know how it makes us a weaker trainer by owning a shiny. How does having a shiny make us a worse trainer if we train it the same way we do with other Pokemon? Logic is not on your side. Boo hoo.

That has got to be the worst response... You know what? We don't care! To some, shinies look awesome! Who cares if you hate them. That doesn't stop us! Sure, I admit I see people's sigs stating they've gone months searching for a Shiny Mewtwo, and I just thought to myself "Why won't you give up already?" Sure, it gets ridiculous to a point, but shinies are still awesome... Some of them. Sure, they could've done better with the sprite coloring. I'll admit. But if I got a shiny Mewtwo or even a shiny Magikarp, I'd be happy. Why? Because they're unique. Sure, they may have lost some of their luster, but having a unique Pokemon still feels good. It's like you saying "HEY! Why don't we all use the same Pokemon? Using different teams is stupid and pointless!"

Having a unique Pokemon, no matter what difference it makes, is still important. Shinies are the most unique of all from their rarity, so why not catch one? If you don't want one, that's your problem.

The point is you're not likely to find them be searching - you find them by luck usually. But shinies should look better though - make a better reward. Still, it's kinda unique to own one (except for Gyarados of course) but they could at least have some other benefit. An unlearnable move? Nothing, and breeding for shinies is pointless - you just have 1/8192 chance WHATEVER. And you are even more unlikely to get a shiny Pokemon with a decent breeding move (by breeding naturally) anyway, and breeding moves can be important to many. Shinies shouldn't just be trophies IMO.

Actually, I'm just saying, (not to be rude or offensive) What if I had a level 100 shiny charizard with a good nature, and a well thought out attack set that could beat almost any pokemon, and has all the 'cool ribbons'. what if I beat the game with my shiny charizard? Maybe my shiny charizard could pwn your 'normal' charizard?

I honestly don't base shinies on their unique colors but on the concept they are indeed so rare. People like rare things and people like unique things. That is the hype and I see it as very immature that you would let this bother you the least bit.

Blueysicle

Master Procratinator
I'm not much of a shiny hunter myself, as I don't spend my time looking for one. (Although I did try soft-reseting for a Shiny Porygon once, but I gave up on that) However, I find it rather exciting when I do see one. They're like Secret Bases in a way. You don't need them to be a better trainer, they're just there for fun. Plus, some of the shinies do look awfully cool. (I like the Shiny Suicune, myself)

And just because someone has a Shiny doesn't make them an idiot. Sure, it doesn't make them any better at battling, but how does it make them worse?

I found one by searching. :p

They are based off ALBINOS. ALBINO animals ARE NO MORE SPECIAL THAN REGULAR ANIMALS. They have worse eyesight tham regular animals, in fact.

Ok. let's learn, Fibble: Shinies = Albinos. Albinos are no more special than any other animals. Albinos are also extremely rare to get by breeding. See the relationship? :O

Shinies shouldn't just be trophies IMO.
They aren't to some people.

Who can say?
Shinies are just an added extra in the games. Its nice to come across a very rare shiney. Its up to the individual and you can't class someone as a 'weak trainer' because they happened to experience a rare event within their game. For example my shiny Horsea that I found when fishing, it just happened by luck, I had no control over what happens inside the GBA cart, I was not wasting my time as I was looking for another Pokemon for my Pokedex.

I suppose to you someone who wins a Master Ball in the Dept. store or is able to go to Mirage Island is weak?

Aggreed not all shineys look great (like the ones that are just darker versions of ther original) but is just an extra within the game that players can choose to use or not.

*Edit* and you should be careful what you 'wish' upon others...you may end up causing offense especially when dealing with issues such as suicide...I tend not to use that as an insult myself but...

That's a rather harsh thing to say. So you don't like shinies? Big deal, don't catch one, but don't start telling people to hang themselves just because they like shinies. Yes some look ugly, but there you go. There are some that look cool, and if people like me want to waste our time searching for them let us!

Toulav is too cool
If you've already beaten the game and have nothing else to do, then it's great to set a goal looking for something rare like that. I think a lot look awesome because they are unique, and more importantly,

what they said. Who cares how others spend their time?

Cheer up.
Look, getting shinies is something we do. It is an achievement. You have caught a very rare Pokemon that looks awesome and special in your collection.

The Great Butler

Hush, keep it down
You have got some nerve to say those of us who like shinies should hang ourselves. First of all that's way out of line to wish something like that on anyone. Ever heard the tragic story of Ray Combs, once the host of Family Feud? You wouldn't appreciate it if you were a relative of someone who hung themselves.

Do shinies make you a stronger trainer? No, of course not. They are intended as special things to find by luck (or patience in the case of Mewtwo) If you hit, say a Modest Abra that was shiny, by all means you should use it because it will be strong AND able to showoff-able.

Lock please.....

Lucky, maybe?

They are based off ALBINOS. ALBINO animals ARE NO MORE SPECIAL THAN REGULAR ANIMALS. They have worse eyesight tham regular animals, in fact.

So why would people want one? To be unique. Although I am one for diversity, I would rather be "normal" than have a mutation. Why would you want something defected? To be different?

Ok. let's learn, Flibble: Shinies = Albinos. Albinos are no more special than any other animals. Albinos are also extremely rare to get by breeding. See the relationship? :O

Yes, guess so - and my name's not Fibble, it's Flibble for crying out loud! You are about the 43782910th person to call me "Fibble," but that is off-topic.

They aren't to some people.

Point taken.

What I'm trying to say IS, if shinies are albinos, why would you want one? it's a defect, or in this case, a gimmick. Shinies are so rare - surely they should be advantageous?
