Hi people!
Theres probably a topic like this already- but if so, I can't find it.
It's regarding the move thunder.
Thunder, is the noise, that lightning makes. So, whismur, loudred, and exploud should be immune to it (soundproof, and I'm kidding)

I'm wondering why it isn't called Lightning.

So i was just wondering, why it's called thunder, when it's supposedly lightning, and what it's called in Japanese (translated, like rain dance= Prayer for rain, not Rain dance=Japanese character)

Thanks for your time... Discuss if you want.

It's because it wasn't though out well enough but then again, a lot of the names make little sense. Tail Whip? It's more of a tail wag. It's hardly enough to make an entire thread over though. Besides, Thunder as an attack name just sounds more impressive than Lightning.

Oh yeah, for the record the Japanese name (kaminari) also translates to Thunder.

......use your drill peck attack......"
The noise itself does not cause the damage. The electricity current does.

According to dictionary.com, Thunderbolt means

A discharge of lightning accompanied by thunder.
A flash of lightning conceived as a bolt or dart hurled from the heavens.

So Thunderbolt is still electricity

Yeah, but he's talking about the move Thunder, not Thunderbolt...
Anyway, in many RPGs there's a lightning spell called thunder, for reasons unknown. (Final Fantasy series, Breath of Fire II, etc.)

Thunder is the noise and thunderbolt is a bolt of lightning. So yes, I see your point. It should be called thunderstorm instead.
