Got abit of a problem, i got pokemon emerald today and all i done sofar is set the clock and saved my game. 4 hours later i switched my game back on and the time hasnt changed since. When does the time start going? Oh yeah also when i first switched on the game it said the "the game can be played" is that normal? Didn't do it for ruby/sapphire or leaf green. By the way i got my game of ebay.....

Well, try exiting the room without saving and then save.

I think the clock starts ticking when you set it. But if it's wrong, restart.

it probably was just a dead internal battery. that gives the message:

"The Internal Battery Has Run Dry, The game can still be played but time based events will no longer work" just send it to nintendo and see if they'll replace the interale battery or try to replace the battery yourself

I dont think thats it coz i checked on my sapphire game and time is still going and i actually saw the hand move but emerald is still frozen even after restarting the game.

You get that message when you have a fake copy of the game.

Is the cart black or grey? The legit Emerald cart is a translucent green.

Its translucent green, could the game just be permenantly glitched?

It's possible there are some pirated carts that are the right color. I just know the "this game can be played" message only appears on pirated games, never on the legit ones.

Thank you. So the game is DEFINANTLY a pirate? Or you just think it is? If it is im writing a complaint to the person i bought it of on ebay and getting my money back. I don't really mind the message so much but the fact that it is a pirate AND the time is frozen is what bothers me.

If it doesn't record time you can beat the game in less then 1 secound and your proof is the play time. You can get a new Emerald or live with the small glicth. Just restart the game.

No not like that. My play time is not frozen just the time in the game. Example: i set my clock at 11:55am (real life time), went outside saved the game. Switched the game back on about 4hours later the time was still 11:55am on the clock in the game when it should of been 3:55am, get it?

Yes, it's definitely a pirate. That message only shows up on fake games. I do think you should contact the seller and ask for a refund.

Is there any way you could show a pic or scan of the cart or the box? There are other ways to tell a fake game, even if the cart is the right color...lack of the Nintendo seal or having it in the wrong place, blurry box art or cart sticker, etc.

That is not true.
I had a pirated version of Sapphire, but the play time was recorded as normal. It just didn't progress in time (except when you are playing). It's also doesn't have a save back-up. So if the connection between two gameboys is lost during trading etc., or something goes wrong while saving you will lose your savegame. That means you have to start all over again :{

Hope This Helps!

It can be a legal copy, just that the game is glitched or the original owner received the "The Internal Battery Has Run Dry, The game can still be played but time based events will no longer work"-Message and sold it.

About the "the game can be played"-Message, hmm... That's odd, perhaps a bug made a "comment"(A note in the code, wich isn't read at all, existing just for the makers.) appear on the screen.

The game is probably all official, but if you want to check, just look at the game pak(Logo side) and see if there is little star-like dot with the text:
"Orifficial Nintendo Seal of Quality", at least on eauropean paks

Pic of the "Seal of Quality"
NOTE: It's really tiny on the game pak.
