berty106 has the idea: this day/night deal won't be something to affect individual Pokemon rather the power of certain moves.
Think about it: when you're playing someone in a different timezone over WiFi, whose clock should we go by to judge the power of your Pokemon?
In all, while an interesting ponderance, it fails to muster enough merit to warrant its addition.
Now what I'm more interested in is when we will see certain varieties of Pokemon during the times of day...
hopefully we won't need to wait until night to get all the Ghost and Dark types like before. Just because they're spooky doesn't mean they need to be nocturnal.
UNDERLINED: We have something like that on FFXI, Eszett, and it's a GREAT thing you brought that up. To cope with timezones on the online game during gameplay, the game itself has its own time schedule and weekday schedule.
The game's 'weeks' run for a phase of 3 hours (there are 8 days of the week instead of 7 in the game based upon 8 elements - Light, Dark, Fire, Water, Lightning, Earth, Wind and Ice). Several events take place during the days, such as fighting a summoning spirit (Avatar or Avatar Prime) on the days of their weakness (Light = Dark, Water > Fire > Ice > Wind > Earth > Lightning > Water etc.), synthesizing materials with elemental crystals on their elemental days for better results, Notorious Monster spawning etc.
With timezones in real life, usually certain countries are online at certain times. For night time in the US, the Japanese players are on / For daytime in the US, the Japanese players are asleep (I know some Japanese people who are playing during the late hours for them) / For afternoon in the US, Europeans are on at night etc.
BOLD: Another good and excellent point, Eszett. Usually gameplay night times are always the time for Undead creatures. HOWEVER, there are some areas in online games where Undead creatures are active during all gameplay time. Such places as the caves or the Undead city in FFXI, Necropolis, where ghosts, skeletons, float-eyes, shadows (VERY lethal, shadows are 'dark' characters of the playable characters) and doomed (moving flesh, anyone?).
Hopefully, Nintendo and GameFreak would have to know about these elements Eszett and I are pointing out.
