To get Totodile, Chickorita, or Cyndaquil do you have to......

To get one of those from Birch, Do u have to get 200 Entrys in your pokedex, or could it be your natinal dex.

Like could i trade pokes from Firered to Emerald like Caterpie or Hitmonchan and them count toward the 200 to get a Jhoto Starter?

you have to have the hoenn dex 200, other than jirachi and deoxys. caterpie and hitmonchan wouldn't count towards it.

Completely wrong. You must complete the HOENN dex, excluding jirachi and deoxys, to get ONE of the three johto starters.

You need to collect all Hoenn Pokemon. A lot of people say that Birch will give you a call, but that's not true. You need to go to his lab. You don't need to have a space in your pack. If you don't, the Johto Starter will automatically go to your PC.

People please only post if you're sure of what you're saying!
To obtain one of the Johto starters you must have 200 Pokémon in your Hoenn Pokédex. Jirachi and Deoxys can count towards it but don't have to. Meaning if you have all the Pokémon from Hoenn including Jirachi and Deoxys but are missing say, Roselia and Meditite (2 random examples), your Hoenn Pokédex still has 200 Pokémon and you can obtain one of the 3 'starters'.

edit: Disregard that, Jirachi and Deoxys do not count towards the Hoenn Pokédex completion. You need Pokémon #1-200 in the Hoenn Pokédex for it to be classified as complete and thus be able to obtain your 'starter'.

not true, because you need such things as abra and marill, even through they aren't 252-384.

Let me clarify. You need all of the pokemon that can be caught naturally in the hoenn region in all three games.

Get #s 1-200 to complete the Hoenn Dex and get one of the 3 Jhoto Starters. Birch will call you on your pokenav and tell you when youve completed it.

You have to have all hoene pokemon (200) Just switch your pokedex to the hoene mode and you will see whichs ones your missing. Hope this helped.

O man that SUCKS!

I thought I was gonna get myself a Cool Cyndaquil! SO much for that. Theres no way i can get 1-200 Hoenn only. National would be easy! O man!
