To Import or not to import...

<..::BioHazard-001::..>

Thank you Come again
I live in New Zealand and when it comes to Nintendo gaming, we are a wasteland. I had to get Freeloader to get any more kick out of my Gamecube...
And now we come to the Wii-era, a time of happiness. But I beg to differ...well, kinda...
If I buy a PAL Wii, the price will cost more and I may lack games if it doesn't sell well here. If I buy a NTSC Wii, I will have to wait long shipping weeks for my games to come.
Also, I am thinking of waiting till the price drops because in my currency the Wii is $500 dollars. Trust me thats getting to next-gen price which is $700 for Complete Xbox 360 pack and $530 for Starter Pack. I am selling my Gamecube for Wii money and have already found a buyer. If I tell him he needs to wait, he will want ot find a GCN from somewhere else...
I guess I could play N64 for the mean time...

WHAT SHOULD I DO?????? Any help will be appreciated!
Thanks, See ya round,

Well, you could always buy a PAL console and order games from the UK. I am sure that they are the same region. Although, games are not exactly cheap here in the UK.

Ummm dude. I would just wait till you know that there is modding equipment out there so you can mod your Wii so it can play games from other countries...

In other words, I would just wait. All we know is that 1st Party Nintendo games are region free, and that developers can do whatever they want...so >_>;

I'd just go with whatever is cheaper...

Um, what? Dude, if they're region free, then there's no need to mod a console to play imports. >_>

Nintendo games may be region free - but Developers of other games can do whatever they want as far as Region Free goes...so you might have to mod it to play games from other regions if they decide to make it Region Restricted...

I'd just do whatever is cheapest for you. http://www.xe.com is a good currency converter.

I heard that Nintendo turned down the option of Reigon-Free games, but hey, I'm likely to be mistaken, In fact I would love to be mistaken. I never thought of modding...but I don't really like getting beyond the case? And then you need to get strange screwdrivers and I do awfully with souldering. I guess I'll only need to mod my console when I find a Overseas Third-party game that really grabs me...

Never thought of that... Thanks Kez!

Another question is "Will the Parental Lock stop me from playing my GCN games?" and "Will I still be able to use Freeloader?"

Thanks for your help!
Keep the feedback coming!

Parental locks only affect the rating that is on the disc. I assume this will probably only apply to Wii titles, though.

And no, the Freeloader won't work on the Wii as the GameCube is a flip-top console, while the Wii has you insert the discs like a car CD-player.

I don't quite understand why the Freeloader won't work, couldn't you just press eject? If I am proven wrong, where could I buy games from that are PAL over the net?

If the Wii is anything like the PS2, you'd just end up either locking up the console or going straight back to the console menu. It was easier with the GameCube because you could simply pop the fliptop open and swap discs without needing to go back to a menu or freezing whatever is on the screen.

If you want to play GameCube imports, keep your GameCube and Freeloader. Otherwise, you're gonna have to wait until someone discovers a way to mod the Wii.

But if it stuffs up when you need to swap discs, then will the same thing apply for when you swap discs in Resident Evil 4, prehaps?
