Too Powerful?

RAVENHEART

Is it just me or are they making too many powerful pokémon in the latest games I don't think the R/S/E has brought any good to the game in terms of pokémon selection and I don't think D/P will either looking at some of the last pokemon in the D/P dex they are ridiculously over powered I think they need to put more thought into the pokémon and bring out 4-5 legandaries a game not 14-15 as seems to be the case and think how they and other high power pokémon will affect the game and why they are needed not just say "oh it will be so cool to have a pokémon with base 120 on everything it will make mew useless" is that a good thing ? No they should try to keep older pokemon more useful not obsolete.

Also the standard of pokémon apperances/sprites has in general taken a huge drop since G/S/D.

EDIT: Also a similar case with attacks.

EDIT 2: OK I was a bit harsh in that Im not saying that the game should remain static and the general gameplay has always kept improving and some of the newer pokemon and attacks have been a welcom addition, I just think they should put some more thought into some of the new additions.

You're totally wrong. They tend to follow a patern: a legendary "trio" (birds, gerbils/dogs), a legendary "couple" (Lati@s, Kyogre and Groudon...), legendary "individuals" (Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Rayquaza), "powerful, but not legendaries" (Mewtwo, Dragonite, Salamence...).

Attacks are pretty well balanced. Most of the "powerful" attacks have many drawbacks that renders them useles in competitive battling.
It's true some new pokémon, since RuSaE, are a bit weird looking, but they tend to fit well in the whole pokéuniverse.
"Additions"... Tell me Pokémon hasn't developed a lot since RBY days, and I'll smack you. From the splitting of the Special stat to superficial modifications such as battle animations, passing through examples such as the usage of an internal clock... there are a hell of examples out there.

To sum up, "it is just you".

BTW: For what on Earth does the "D" in "G/S/D" stand for?

Infinity's got 23
The hell? Mewtwo? Powerful but not legendary? Rayquaza individual?

What the HELL are you talking about?

I mean, otherwise, totally on the ball, but... yeah

I'm not saying they shouldn't make new ones then there would be no point bringing out new games justthey should look at what they've got and not make a similar one like Salamence there was no need for it Dragonite was alredy fitting the high attack dragon role maybe I was a bit over excited in my original post there have been lots of great additions but they should be filling new roles with new pokémon not rehashing them.

As for attacks I think they have improved greatly but In D/P some of the new attacks look a bit too powerful.

G/S/D um I got diamond and crystal mixxed up whoops.

As for apperance okay that was kind of stupid since they do have to be distinct and individual.

And the patern the legendary doubles Lati@s and Kyogre Groudon they were all in R/S/E.

Im probably just gone into a nonsensical rant and Ill be saying how cool the new pokémon are when I et them :D.

Its mostly about what Ive seen in the D/P dex rather then R/S/E but then there could be a load of other things that offset these that I havent seen.

Tyranitar is also a powerful but not legendary. The pokemon just before the legendaries in the pokedex are the powerful non legendaries. I dont think anything is overpowered BTW.

wow you screwed that overview on legenderies up

heres how it should have gone

Legendary solos:
r/b/y- Mewtwo
g/s/c-none
r/s/e-rayquaza

Legendery duos:
r/b/y-none that i can think of
g/s/c-lugia/ho-oh
r/s/e-kyogre/groudon and (possibly to make up for rby) lati@s

Legendary trios:
r/b/y- articuno/zapdos/moltres
g/s/c-entei/raikou/suicune
r/s/e-regice/registeel/regirock

special legendaries:
r/b/y-mew
g/s/c-celebi
r/s/e-jirachi and deoxys

semi legenderies:
r/b/y-dratini and evos
g/s/c-larvitar and evos
r/s/e-bagon and evos

i also noticed these patterns that have nothing to do with this topic but are worth mentioning:

Gifts:
r/b/y-Eevee
g/s/c-Togepi
r/s/e- castform and beldum

fossils:
r/b/y- omanyte and kabuto
g/s/c-none
r/s/e-anorith and lileep

there are more pokemon traditions but im too lazy to point them out

Fighting Dark Man

Everyone's Nightmare
Some of these very powerful Pokemon are extremely hard to come by, so of course they're going to be powerful to make up for the difficulty of getting them. Perhaps they should lay off on the legendaries, though. yeGADZ there seem to be way too many in D/P.

There are about 4 exclusive legendaries in D/P, so those not everyone can get

Walking Contradiction

Feed Us a Fetus
All the new legendaries (except Aruseus) have ordinary Legendary stats.
But yes, some of the new Pokemon (like PoygonZ with HUGE special attack) are overpowered. And the new attacks bring very strong moves for every single type. The movesets will get a lot lamer.

yes that's true

And if you guyz seriously try leveling up a gwd pokemon an good EV's they will be strong .....any pokemon at level 100 with ice beam could take a rayquaza down in one hit

Time for the Mewtwo Master to step in :p

R/B/Y Individual = Mewtwo (they kinda rigged it up there with amnesia and messed up stats)
R/B/Y Trio = Birds
R/B/Y Special = Mew
G/S/C Individual = None
G/S/C Duo = Deity Birds (Ho-oh, Lugia)
G/S/C Trio = Dog/beast thingies
G/S/C Special = Celebi
R/S/E Individual/Special = Deoxys
R/S/E Super Trio = Earth Guardians (Rayquaza, Kyogre, Groudon)
R/S/E Duo = Latios/Latias
R/S/E Trio = Regies

Diamond and Pearl will definately have the most messed up legendaries (and by messed up, I mean overpowered and broken)

The black guardian of time dog thingy (Diaruga is it?)
The white guardian of space airplane thingy (Parukia?)
And finally, the awful, AWFUL guardian of creation, pokemon-god thing (Aruseus). Ridiculously high and balanced stats, no fixed weakness due to his nifty type-changing thing and a really really messed up pokemon in general. (with recover to boot). Man that judgement pebble thing is really gonna hurt..

You're right in a way, but Game Freak/Nintendo will not make any one Pokemon unstoppable. Aruseus may have 720 base stats but he can be taken down... and the same with Giratina, with his Shadow Drive attack. Okay, on the latter all you can do is switch to a Normal type but voila! That's the counter.

dude... rayquaza kyogre and groudon is not a trio, its a groudon/kyogre duo because you can get rayquaza in both games but you can only get groudon or kyogre in seperate game (emerald is an excepsion(sp?))

lol deity i like that word

I never said Aruseus was unstoppable, its just too powerful. It still goes beyond the power level of any uber in the past (other than the R/B/Y mewtwo). I dont really care about the 720 base stats, its just so BALANCED.

+Eh I still consider Rayquaza to be in the same group as the other two. It just fits "story-wise" (based on the purpose of the pokemon). Besides, its kinda weak to be a legendary individual (it goes bye-bye from any form of ice..)

mewtwo has had base 120 stats since GSD

they actually IMPROVED its stats over RBYs because they wanted it to remain the definitive most powerful pokemon in the world

which it was, until Arseus came along, which is base 130 acorss the board.

What this means, IMO, is that arseus is the last pokemon

ever.

being balanced is not a bad thing

i guess youre kinda right on that it does kinda fit into a weather trio but i still think of it as a solo legendary because its just so cool so yes rayquza is part of a story trio but i dont see him as part of an elemental trio

it does go bye bye to ice but i use it and put a flamethrower on it to counter ice and its pretty fast so it'll get the first attack in
