Ok, I know most people won't agree with me *prepares self for several pages of cyber-abuse* but I think that toonami takes a lot of flack for a channel that really is keeping the pokemon anime alive in the UK. Let's face it, we're all frustrated by the length of time it takes them to completely show a full season of pokemon, due to their "release 10 episodes every few months approach", but I think that toonami having the rights to pokemon is better than sky one having them. Here, let me set it out for you:
1) There are roughly 50 episodes in a season of pokemon (I know there are many exceptions, but bear with me) and so sky one showing one episode a week, will mean roughly a year of new episodes as there are 52 weeks in a year. On toonami, with a new series, it takes roughly the same amount of time, seeing as advanced battle started this time last year and has just finished.
2) The amount of "pokemon half-term marathons" on toonami tells us that pokemon is their most popular show. And even during normal weeks, Pokemon is shown pretty much all day, including peak hours like tea time. Sky one showed pokemon roughly twice, perhaps three times a week, and if they decided to show more, it would be at about 6am on weekdays.
3) We now have viewing access to a wider range of seasons on toonami, repeats of older seasons like kanto were few and far between on Sky one, whereas toonami often show kanto, orange islands, johto and hoenn episodes within the space of a week.
Don't get me wrong, I think that toonami's schedule can be incredibly annoying, but I'm glad to see that there's a channel with pokemon high on it's
list of priorities. And even the biggest sky one fans have to admit, pokemon was often pushed aside to make way for newer shows like Yu-gi-oh.
Well that's my opinion, feel free to add in yours.
