tougher/more exciting gyms

WHERE IS PIDGEOT?!
ok. so. basically here is where we'll discuss toughness of gyms and what should make them different from the other gens. i, for one, would like a battle dome-style situation where, once you have defeated the "disciples" you go up to the gym leader, a bitof chatter, then you are asked to pick your three Pokemon for a 3v3 battle (you will be allowed to use items etc as you want) maybe the last leader could be 6on6? then this would encourage you to build a well-balanced team....?

oh and higher levels. and more towns in between

All Gym Leaders should have six Pokémon with them, and the level of their Pokémon is equal to your Pokémon's highest level. That's something to think about to make them better and harder, right?

I think that the Gym Leaders should have a little bit of character developement before you fight in thier gym.For example:Before you can battle Whittney(Johto gym leader)you must find her missing Igglybuff. It gets really boring just stepping into the gym just like any other place.

Great ideas!

I would like to have to do sub quests for some of the gyms, maybe to prove yourself to the leader before fighting them. I'm getting quite tired of puzzles.

I like the idea of gym pokemon levels matching the highest level of your own. That's an idea that should be brought in to prevent sweeping through the entire game with one pokemon.

I would like to see a limit to how many pokemon you and the leader can use. Like 2 vs 2 matches and 5 on 5.

i would enjoy the side quests thing to introduce leaders a little more, like how they do on the anime series.

itd be cool if the gyms were available after making your way through a dense forest (like a bug/grass gym), rather than just in the towns and cities. and that thing about the level matching your own Pokemon would be good! i think that each pokemon having their own level is more, like, personal though. what would happen with movesets and evolutions then? do you think they should be rebattleable?

They should stop putting tons of trainers before the leader. That's annoying and old. Gyms should also be more spread out, that way you can train alot more before you even come to it, 'cause I always end up needing to train my pokemon like 5+ levels after I get to the city with the gym. I've thought about 2-type gyms. There could be a gym with fire types, rock types, and fire/rock types. You should have to do something to be allowed to fight the gym leader, but not a long series of battles or finding something that's lost.

I think that currently, the gyms are at a fair diffaculty level that isn't too arduos for newbies or too boring for veterans.
My only issue is the over-simplistic and repetetive design of all the gyms. I would prefer it if the gyms had much more complicated puzzles and lots of levels to traverse, almost like a miniture Zelda Dungeon, and there where uncatchable wild Pokemon like in the Battle Pyramid as well as all the trainers.

I like to have some hard things before facing a Gym Leader, like the people above said, find her [pokemon here] etc.

And I think it should be great if someone says I am a Gym Leader and after you beat it, he/she says that I am not but I was joking, like the little girl did with Jasmine in the anime.

Remember Janine's Gym in GSC?

Err.. apart from the same level thing... exciting music. I'm serious. Both in Pokemon, AND in Sonic bosses and gym leaders are plagued by not particuarly exciting music.

If anything has become cliché, it's the use of certain types of Pokemon in a gym. Look Gamefreak, it's not that hard to just send out one Pokemon with an SE attack to handle them all; give us something else.

Hm! Like strategies! If gym leaders are meant to be tough, then why are they raising mono teams? At the very least give us dual teams, for instance, a Water/Psychic gym. Having a Milotic and an Alakazam will do much more to stall me than just one of them. Mix and match some types that cover each other well; I'm sure you'll give us a run for our money with a Fire/Grass type gym.

Failing that, use Pokemon that excel in a certain stat! The first gym could be dominated by defensive titans, then we could go on to fighting speed demons in the next gym, after which we get a fury of special attackers. It's not terribly hard to implement these simple alterations that will make for not only a more challenging adventure, but would also serve to put some sense into the powers that the certain badges endow us.

Hmm.... We definitely need gyms that are a bit more challenging. Lol. I like the idea of more exciting music. ^_^ I also think that there should be wild pokemon in the gyms that you have to defeat before getting to the gym leader. Not just trainers (which are getting kind of old...).

They attempted to do this with the Petalburg gym trainers. Remember the different rooms with the sweepers and stallers?

Still, they have yet to make a full-fledged gym that incorporates that as its main motive. Something else to consider that is also along these lines would be having Gym leaders make good usage of EVs and typing.

Also, while I'm sure it will not happen, I find it odd to say the least that all the gym leaders near your town are at the bottom rungs of the difficulty ladder while those further from you are the top-caliber trainers. Which gets me thinking: wouldn't a trainer starting out in, say, Saffron, be clobbered by the leaders in the region and thus unable to advance very easily in his adventure? Which brings me to my ponderance: make the gym leaders have a more flexible order in which you can battle them, but adjust the strength of their teams according to how many badges you have. That way, you can't skip over a really easy gym yet won't get slammed hard by a gym several tiers above your own.

Honestly I think gyms should be programmed at higher levels. In R/B/Y gyms and trainers were harder because they used far higher leveled pokemon. This definitely made the game more interesting. A combination of that and a gymleader who actually knew the word *gasp* strategy would make gyms more fun

What's more likely is that all the Gyms, for some strange reason, all started off at low levels at about the same time you leave for your quest, and initially the first Gyms you come to are at low levels because they haven't been training that long, and as your journey progresses, their Gym Leaders have had more time to train their Pokémon, so that by the time you get to the final leader, they've obviously got a high levelled team because you're facing them way after you've fought everyone else.

What do you all think about Ability gyms? IE The gym leader's Pokémon all have the same ability, and while that sometimes only incorporates Pokémon of similar elements, it occasionally allows for some variety, and certainly would set up a bit of a theme. You might try to counter their Static Pokémon with your Limber Pokémon, for example, and then you'd be in a situation where neither has the elemental advantage, nor does either have an Ability advantage.

Uhh i dont think that at the first gym you would most likely have 6 pokemon.
