When battling in the frontier palace I was forced to switch in my gardevoir on a Slaking (an ugly story where my metagross exploded on a flying crobat who proceeded to toxic my milotic!!!) anyway too my horror Gardevoir traunted on it’s first turn rather than its second-argh!! Is this always the case?

Also thought it would be cool to hear about what people think are good pokes to come in on with a Trace ability?

My favourite is a Ninjask because you ruin it’s baton passing abilities because you will match it in speed boosts, so whatever feebly slow sweeper it passes to will still be slower and whilst Ninjask has been using swords dance you've been calm minding and you're set to sweep. You have got to watch out for silver wind though.

Wobbefett.

trapping it is one of the only ways to defeat it without sacrificing one of your own pokemon.

Trapping a wob, I like it, then you can casually calm mind six times and just sweep away-naughty.

Also thought shedinja would be good because after wonder guard Gardevoir would only go down to dark, ghost and bug attacks. Of course you would need a move to kill shedinja, perhaps magical leaf or fire punch.

Toxic also works if Wobba hasn't put Safegaurd up.

1. I'm not sure weither Wonder gaurd is traceable...
2. Shedinja usually carries Silver Wind and/or Shadow Ball... making tracing Wonder gaurd a bit pointless. I guess Porygon2 could pull it of... but I don't think it can learn attacks that can take down Shedinja...
3. Magical Leaf won't work against Shedinja.

wonder guard is traceable as I was able to pull it off before, and shedinja should go down with fire punch or will-o-wisp at least. For porygon2, it will need a hidden power of preferably fire or dark to handle shedinja.

Volteon

Back I guess??
wonder guard and Shadow tag are the best ones I think, but some like marvel scale, volt/water absorb, swift swim are also good. (or levitate from one claydol!)

use higher level Wobuffet. Yesterday I catch Wobuffet in Safari Zone and train him to lv55. After that I easy catch Latios.
Shadow Tag is the best one. And Wobuffet have extreme HP but don't know good attacks. If you want Wobuffet to fight, you must have more luck for his Counter

Why does everyone think that Shadow Tag is good, anyway?

When you kill the Shedinja, your opponent will send in a counter, usually forcing you to switch, losing Shadow Tag.

Wonder Guard is obviously the best you can Trace, with Effect Spore or the aforementioned Speed Boost probably being the second best.

If you're a good predictor you can get a free switch. You could come in on Flygon using earthquake or Hypno using Hypnosis.

Anyway what about the stuff that's bad to trace? Does anyone know an in-game trainer who uses Slaking so i can test the traunt trait problem.

Also why doesn't intimate take effect when you trace it? It would have worked really well against a salamence or gyarados, allowing you to switch in when they dragon dance.

Gym Leader Norman in Emerald has two Slakings

I personally like tracing soundproof when fighting exploud...takes away several of their choice moves

I think this happens:
Intimidate affects when the pokémon leaves pokéball.
Trace affects when the pokémon leaves the pokéball.

Then when the pokémon uses trace (last thing that happened was leaving pokéball) it copy intimidate (the last thing that happened wasn´t leaving pokéball)

I don´t know, it´s plausible.

I don't get it.

When does Sheddy get Shadow Tag?

the good:thick fat,weather negators,trapping escapes,power ups.
the bad:plus&minus

A good one is that trace screws Pokémon with "Absorb" Abilities. If you predict well, you can switch out when Vaporeon uses Surf or when Lanturn uses Thunderbolt. You'll trace their Abilities and render their attacks useless.

Permanent Abilities like Own Tempo, Serene Grace, Thick Fat and such all work well too. Stuff like Intimidate and Truant is bad...

so are abilities that go with stragdeies that Gardevoir wouldn't use, such as Rock Head or Guts.

drizzle and drought, because you'd have to switch out and back in to activate it (assuming a different weather condition is there), but then it'll be resetted. pretty useless if you ask me

I think absorbs is a very good ability to trace..like, when you battling a Jolteon, then your Pokemon Traced its Volt Absorb, then Jolteon keep uses Thunderbolt.

Wonder Guard isn't traceable because otherwise, this can happen.

2 vs 2 battle
Gardevoir
and Sableye

vs
Shedinja
and Shedinja

Gardevoir traced Sheddy's Wonder Guard
Gardevoir used Skill Swap
You now have unkillable Sableye for there are no forsesighting fighters around. XD

Wonder Guard is not traceable.

because all the ones that I have met before use counter like five times in a row while I can power up.
