Traded Evos and Everstone?

I want to trade my shiny Gastly over to my Emerald version for storage, but I'd like to know if I can evolve it into Haunter first and stop it's evolution to Gengar by giving it an everstone.
Does that work?

i don't think so you can't stop a trade evo, have you got pokemon box try that or evolve it when it's on emerald

Simple. trade it as a Gastly & evolve it in Emerald.
