Transfer? Trade? What's the deal??

I have a question that I hope someone can answer. I am new to this forum so cut me some slack. A long time ago a read an article that said Pokemon D/P would have the ability to transfer some of the pokemon from R/S/E/LG/FR
to start off in D/P(You get a new starter pokemon and have your old friends to join too.). Not trading by linking/wireless adapter but actually hooking the cartridges together. Here is a link to this old article.

And here is a quote from the article that got my attention.

Owners of the Game Boy Advance Pokemon games will be able to hook up their cartridges to the DS and take along their GBA Pokemon for the adventure. The company is planning for much more than this, though. We'll have to wait for details to follow.
While details on Pearl & Diamond are still scarce, we have learned a bit. Nintendo plans on taking the franchise to an all new land for the big DS debut. Currently, the developers are deciding on how to start off your quest, determining the number of Pokemon that should accompany you from the start. This is an area that required fine tuning even for Ruby & Silver, with the developers originally experimenting with having anywhere between one and five Pokemon at the outset.

Has this feature been scrapped? Is there any current news that clarifies this? If this feature is still planned to be in the D/P , then how come noone is talking about that? This would change the story completely for the series. Would we be able to transfer trainer information too? If this feature has been scrapped. WHY?!? That would be awesome!!

You misread, either that or IGN suck, which isn't exactly rare...the feature is allowing for the trade from RSEFRLG into DP when you have reached a certain point in DP, it's no continuation or having them to start off with

im so glad you can trade to and from DP...just thought i'd say
I wouldn't say from d/p seeing as the GBA games aren't gonna have the info for the newer pokemon and possibly the stuff they might change on old ones.
And noone is talking about it because it's old news. It's quite easy to see how you can get both cartridges in the system at once and that kinda traded was kinda expected by most people anyways. I wouldn't say it's a transfer though... possiblt something like pokemon colosseum does... you have to put the pokemon in your party, save, turn off start up the colosseum trade and then turn your GBA on when u connected it. Trade, restart for anymore, etc.

It's awesome how we can trade over old Pokemon. I wonder if you can do it vice-versa, and if the sprites will be different on older generation games.

Uh...no? We can't trade new Pokemon into old games, as they didn't and never will exist in the R/S/E generation. It will be the same as with G/S/C trading with R/B/Y. D:

Unless the programmers can see into the future, I very much doubt that. It'll be like the time capsule in G/S/C.

In that case, I'm guessing you aren't able to trade through generations until later in the game.

Think time machine from GSC. Can't trade items and Pokemon that did not exist in RSE.

So it will probably be like Tamogachi where you hook the 2 cartriges together.

Speaking of trading, putting a GBA cartridge and DS card in the same DS at the same time is fine and all, because it's very likely that I'll trade with myself, but what about people who actually trade the normal way with other people? I keep imagining someone handing his Ruby version over to someone who owns a Diamond version, and either the Diamond owner trades his crappy Pokémon for the Ruby owner's rare Pokémon, or the Diamond owner running away with Diamond and Ruby still in his DS. It's kinda laughter inducing, but it also brings up interesting questions.

Ummm.. don't trade from your ruby version to someone you don't trust with a diamond version
