I need help understanding wich would be a better choice. Since I have all three in my emerald (via trading) I don't know wich ones I should train for the party or just to have for the pokedex.

which one do you prefer and why?

Mudkip because it is a water type, it also is better in HP and Sp.Def(I think).

In-game, Mudkip is definitely the easiest -- he learns Water Gun by the time we fight Roxanne, he's basically neutral to Brawly (though solely training Mudkip will make it easier), and he evolves by the time we reach Slateport -- thus, he's immune to all the electricity on the next route and in Wattson's gym. Flannery is an easy win, Protect > Norman, and an Ice Beam TM works great against Winona. By the time we really start fighting the evil team, Team Magma dies to Water or Ground, and Team Aqua can be beaten with neutral attacks. Surf does fine against both opponents in the seventh gym, and an overleveled Swampert can use neutral attacks to beat Wallace. Then, we can use our uber-load of money to buy a ton of healing items to beat the Elite Four.

The end.

I like Torchic the best, but narrowly. Here are the good and bad things to me about their evolved forms:

Sceptile
Good: Is fast, and has fairly good SA. Can be annoying with Leech Seed, or can sweep well.
Bad: With only 65 Base Defense, an Aerial Ace/Megahorn/Silver Wind/whatever could be fatal, and Grass types have many Weaknesses.

Blaziken
Good: Has great Attack and SA, and can be dangerous with Endure, Reversal, and Overheat.
Bad: Starmie could be 'Ken's fatal weakness. Starmie's Psychic and Surf are both Super-effective against 'Ken, and Blaziken doesn't have great Speed.

Swampert
Good: Has great Attack, good Defenses (Defense, SD, and HP) and reasonable SA. Makes a good Sweeper (I use Mixed), Curser, or Counter/Mirror Coat user. Also, only has one weakness.
Bad: Unless Swampert has Focus Band and Mirror Coat, a Sceptile with Leaf Blade could KO it easily. Swampert's Speed isn't so good, which might be trouble.

I voted for Treecko just because he's my favourite.

A super-fast grass Pokemon with great SAtk and his signature move Leaf Blade is a very good grass attack. I'd nominate him for best grass type period XD

Also, the first move he learns is Absorb, and after that Quick Attack which will work wonders in the beginning of the game (very hard to die if you spam Absorb I found out XD)

Swamperts my favourite pokemon as of a while ago here is the story: It was an ordinary battle in the battle factory and i was just down to a Swampert and the trainer i was facing had a Blissey I used Earthquake on the blissey and got it down to yellow but it used Softboiled and fully recovered itself so i went on to do 5 curses whilst he did 5 double teams I then used earthquake 5 times it missed every single time so i was panicing i had 2 pp of my only attacking move left it needed to hit twice in a row for me to win so i used it once and it Hit! it was down in the low reds because of all the curses i used so there i was panicing hardcore and it hit a second consecutive time in a row and won me the battle so Swampert is now my favourite pokemon because of that battle.

If you want to breeze through the Gym Leaders, Go with Mudkip.

If you want to go through the E4 easily, Go with Torchic

Go with Mudkip, to make more battles easier

Sceptile stinks! Unless you pack him with good tm's and stuff he sucks on his own in game. Also a grass type with no sleep powder is like a fire pokemon without flamethrower! ok maybe thats going a bit extreme.

Blaziken my favorite awesome pokemon but falls down fast in battle. Hit them hard and fast with this guy I say or they will smoke you out like a cold salad, don't ask where I got that line it just popped in my head lol.

Swampert what can I say I never super liked this guy till my latest swampert who is one of my biggest tanks of all time now. With only 1 weakness grass x4 he is one mean fighting machine I say.

I chose Mudkip - well, because he was my first Pokemon. My friend tried to get me to restart my game and get Torchic instead, like saying stuff like "it's impossible to beat Norman without Blaziken". In vain.

Hmm...difficult to choose, I'm using all 3 though for the frontiers. If you haven't beat the game, I'd prefer Blaziken. Swampert is fine, you can add Ice Beam. Sceptile also, his Leaf Blade get STABed if I'm not wrong. Well, here are my 3 starters movesets:
~Blaziken: Slash, Rock Slide(breed), Sky Uppercut, Bulk Up
~Sceptile: Leaf Blade, Crunch(breed),Dragon Claw (TM...),Thunderpunch (move tutor at Battle Frontier)
~Swampert: Surf, Ice Beam (TM), Earthquake, Rest(TM)
--Btw, yeah, only Blaziken can deal super effective damages on Norman's, but consider that Norman's team Sp.Def are low, using Sceptile or Swampert is also good

I love Torchic. It's doing a good job in the gyms. As Blaziken it is doing a good job in the Pokemon League.

Torchic for me. I'll train it to evolve to combusken and learn double kick to beat Roxanne and catch me a shroomish off the bat to fend off brawly and a back-up for Roxanne & Wattson. Then catch an aron to improve my team's number and to fend off norman, and winona. Flannery shouldn't be to hard with aron, I can just mud slap`em - if I can hold off. Then i'll catch a spheal - then train it, and he'll do pretty well against Liza & Tate. Juan should be a Peace of cake having a quick trained lvl 20 shedinja. After that...I'll catch a Bagon ^^

train torchic... it learns good moves when it evolves (blaze kick), and it have a decent combination type of fire/fighting
