I agree. The choice to battle all three damaged Ash terribly mainly because he lost that second battle despite the fact he should have been able to easily win it.

I liked the Striaton gym.The cheerleader reminded me a lot about Gary and his cheerleaders in OS.The episode ended in a cliff hanger which I really liked.Oshawatt was adorable! ^^ 8/10.

Finally, Satoshi and Iris made it to Sanyou City. I found it amusing when we saw Dent, Pod, and Corn's fangirls, and as for the Gym battle itself, I thought that Pikachu losing to Hiyappu was unfair. Yanappu's battle with Mijumaru was kind of ridiculous as well, but I liked that last scene with Solar Beam.

I'm glad Ash wasn't completely reset as you can see by his strategizing here that he does know what he's doing. I am a bit sad at Pikachu's one-sided loss and the fact that this was the only real interesting gym battle so far, but I can't complain.

I thought Cilan's voice was good enough, but I didn't really like that Pikachu happened to be the one that lost in any round, especially to a Water-type.

Pikachu should have won his battle honestly. That could have easily been avoided too, by making it so that Ash has to beat all 3 of them to win, instead of 2/3.

Oshawott was funny in this episode. I like how Ash gave him a pep talk to get him to battle. Its funny that the Gym Leaders have cheerleaders.

At this stage in Isshu, I don't think that Satoshi defeating all three Sanyou Gym Leaders would've been realistic however, although I disliked Pikachu's loss as well.

Iris letting her guard down and looking at Ash fondly, indicating she might actually start to like him. Enjoyed Oshawott's attempts at battling. It's just adorable. Oshawott is quickly becoming one of my favorite of Ash's Pokemon. Cilan is voiced by Jason Griffith. A strange choice, but I've enjoyed a lot of his performances in the past.

Frankly, I do wonder now why the Sanyou Gym didn't have the same gimmick as in Black and White where the challenger must fight the Gym Leader who has the type of monkey Pokemon that is strong against the challenger's Starter Pokemon.

In the games the Striaton gym leaders has you battle the leader whose Pokemon has an advantage over your starter (but its okay because you get the elemental monkey that has an advantage over theirs before you fight them)

In the anime they let you choose which of them to fight while showing off their Pokemon so you can pick based on who your Pokemon are strong against. But Ash wants to fight all 3 ans no trainer was that cocky or self assured to come up with idea before Ash? Okay.


I’m starting to think the writers of Best Wishes hate Pikachu’s guts. First he loses to a untrained starter Snivy and now it lost to a Pokemon it had a type advantage of. A Pikachu that fought in five different leagues. Okay.

The fact that they keep having Iris make an obvious observation and then the exact opposite happened got really annoying and transparent

“Fire against Fire? Why not use water “- Ash wins


“Electric against Water? Ash will surely win”- Ash loses.

“Water against grass? Why didn’t Ash use flying?”- Ash wins

Look, I know Unova wants so bad to be the modern Kanto and Kanto had an erection for showing off Pokemon defeating their type advantages but this got ridiculous the way Iris had to make commentary every time only for the exact opposite to happen got predictable and rote and annoying

He was being somewhat rash when he made that decision, but I thought it was simply him being eager to battle so many new Pokemon more than him just being arrogant about his skills.

Ah man I wish I had my own fan girls to cheer me like Cilan, Cress and Chili had. It got a little annoying after a while like when one of the cheering girls called Pansear a dream boat which is kind of gross when you think about a young girl being attracted to a fire monkey.

Pansear vs Tepig was fine, Pikachu vs Panpour was ****, lol PIKACHU LOSES and doesn't get a single hit
Oshawott lol.
Series is going as expected.

I think Cilan is one of the more underrated of Ash's companions. Great dub performance as well.
