True Love or Perfection
CHAPTER ONE
Sora Danes looked at herself in the mirror. She was tall and beautiful, light brown hair wisped at her shoulders. She had light blue eyes and a clear completion that everyone was jealous of. “Perfect” is how everyone described her, her parents said that about her when she was born, the teachers about her grades and that’s even how ex-boyfriends described her to their friends.
However Sora didn’t feel “perfect” like everyone had told her she was. Sure she had a lot of friends that care about her, the heiress to the family shrine and fortune and had guy’s swoon in her presence. She still felt that even though she had all these luxuries, something was missing form her life. Sora hoped that the emptiness would soon fill with the great news her parents wanted to share with her.
Her Parents were Roy Danes the fifth and Kerushi Danes and they were the current holders of the family shrine. The shrine was given to her family five generations ago as a gift to their powers. Roy Danes the first had decided to awaken Kyroge and actually get into the water with this fierce pokemon. Why he decided to do that no one knows but it didn’t end tragically like everyone had predicted. After Kyroge had awakened it went into a mad rage almost killing Roy. After what seemed like a long time Roy looked the pokemon in the eye and it stopped raging around and went back into its deep, undisturbed sleep. Roy then became a world wide hero for being able to do that. He was honored with the Danes Shrine, which was the current holding spot for the red and blue orbs. Now all the Danes are known to be able to calm down any water pokemon with one glance and are known as the true water pokemon masters.
Sora put on a dress that well matched her eyes to go see her family that came to visit, for today was a very important day-her eighteenth birthday. That meant all the big names in the pokemon world would be there. Those expected to come were: Ash Ketchum, Professor oak, elm and Birch, Lance and Mr. Stone with his son Steven. Of course that meant the well known water trainers would be there as well, Misty Waterflower, Juan, Clair and Wallace were all scheduled to arrive as well. Sora figured this was going to be a huge party that she was going to remember a long time.
She went downstairs and then out to the porch. It was a beautiful day and not one cloud in the sky, an excellent day to throw a party she thought. Her parents and her Aunt Lila were all sitting underneath a very large umbrella drinking tea. The party apparently had not yet started. Her dad was dressed for the occasion; he wore a black suit, gold vest and a red tie. His brown hair parted out of his face and he looked very nice. Kerushi however was overly dressed and made it quite obvious that she was rich. She wore an elegant long, fitted, red dress with a white corsage. Her curly blonde hair was in a fancy up do and she had diamonds on both hands and on her wrists along with a string of pearls around her neck. Her Aunt Lila had on a simple pink dress with her blonde hair pulled back into a low ponytail and she had on a matching bonnet accessorized with white gloves. Sora sighed with happiness and walked over to them.
"Hello dear and how are you today?” her Aunt Lila asked setting her cup of tea down so she could chat with her niece.
“I’m alright, Mom and Dad what did you guys want to talk about?” Sora asked curiously.
“Let’s hold on there a minute, no need to rush! First of all happy birthday pumpkin-it’s hard to believe that our little girl is already eighteen isn’t Kerushi?” her Dad laughed.
“It sure is and by the way you look perfect too Sora, just perfect!” her Mom said patting the seat next to hers. “Time to talk” she said. Sora sat down next to her anxious to hear what her parents had to say.
“Well as you know you’re eighteen today, a woman and it’s time we’ve discussed your future!” Kerushi said, she then glanced over at her husband and gave him the “alright-I’ve done my-part-of-the-bargin-so-now-you-get-to-break-the-“good”-news-to-her look. Roy understood this look very well so he cleared his throat and continued on from what Kerushi said.
“Yes. Well um, you’re mother and I aren’t young anymore and god for bid anything should happen to us, you’re the one left with the shrine along with the valuables and we don’t think you can do it alone…” Sora got a huge feeling she knew what was coming and she didn’t like it.
“Oh my gosh don’t tell me I’m getting a little brother or sister!” she yelled angrily, she loved being the only child.
Her mom spat out the tea in her mouth “Good heavens no Sora, did you not just hear what your father said? Were too old and anyway what we mean is Sora, we don’t think you can handle the responsibility on your own….so you’re getting married.” There was silence for what seemed like an hour and then Sora finally spoke.
“Ummmm…I don’t have a boyfriend right now so getting married will have to wait won’t it?” she asked in a bit of shock. She knew her parents always made hasty decisions but this was just plain going way too far.
“Well your father and I are arranging it of course. I mean who knows what kind of middle class junkie you’d pick if we let you have a choice” Kerushi laughed. Sora however did not find this funny.
“Excuse me but I think I should have a say in who I marry, do I even get a pick in the candidates you chose for me?” she asked getting frustrated.
“Oh no, don’t worry sweetie I already chose him for you.” She makes it sound like she’s buying me a dog, not a guy I’m going to marry. Sora thought to herself.
“And may I ask who he is?” even though she didn’t want to hear the answer. If Sora knew her mother and she did, the guy she picked out probably was some millionaire’s kid whose hobbies include buying mansions and bragging about how rich he is.
“Well since we are the holders of a water shrine I thought it only made sense for you to marry a well-known water trainer and a good one at that! The one and only Wallace!
That did it for Sora, “Wallace? Mother I can’t marry him, I mean doesn’t he have a girlfriend…and no I shouldn’t be getting married in general!” Sora yelled knocking over the chair as she got up.
“Young lady you better pick up that chair and learn some manners while you’re at it. Also I don’t want to hear any more complaints out of that mouth of yours! You’re going to marry Wallace like a good girl and you are going to inherit the shrine and temple do you understand?!” Kerushi yelled extremely mad. Roy sat with his head buried in his hands while Lila happily poured herself more tea as if nothing had happened.
Sora began to cry, this is it-this is why I feel so empty inside! I have absolutely no control over my own life. Tears poured from her eyes making her face all blotchy.
“Oh Sora grow up and while your at it go change and wash your face. I want you looking presentable for when the guests arrive for this party” Kerushi snapped. Soar ran inside where she bumped into their maid who was carrying a basket of laundry. Both of them fell over and the laundry went down with him.
“Oh I’m so sorry Misses Li” Sora said picking up some of her shirts up from the ground.
“No, no not at all-you go do what you need to do and I’ll take care of this.” Misses Li said while she folded a pair of jeans.
“Thank you so much” Sora said whipping her eyes. Misses Li looked up.
“Is something the matter Sora? You should not be crying on your birthday!” she said feeling concerned for Sora. She had worked for the Danes family for over twenty years and she knew Sora rarely cried.
“Oh well, it’s just…I don’t…It’s nothing” she said looking down. Misses Li sighed at her remark.
“Now listen here missy, I am a mother of five and you best believe I know when a child is lying. You my dear are not telling the truth so why don’t you tell me what’s bothering you.” Misses Li said putting the laundry aside.
Sora sighed, “My parents are forcing me to marry Wallace so I can inherit the shrine and temple. Misses Li I really don’t want to get married, especially not to someone I don’t know or love!” tears re-flooded her face.
“Oh Sora honey, you shouldn’t have to marry anyone you don’t want to. Just remember everything happens for a reason and that’s called destiny.” Misses Li picked up the remainder of the laundry and bowed to Sora and went back to work.
Much to her displeasure Kerushi walked inside to see Sora not changed and still crying. “Sora get changed right now the guests are already starting to arrive!” she yelled.
Sora went upstairs, washed her face and put on a more outgoing dress. It was short, black with roses on the top. When she looked as good as new she walked downstairs to find that Professor Oak had arrived and was talking to his grandson Gary along with Ash and Misty. They all wished her a happy birthday. As she went to make her way to more guests her mother called her over.
“Sora, Sora come over here please!” Kerushi motioned her daughter to come by her. Next to her parents was another couple. The man next to her father had white hair and a lot of it. He wore a navy suit and a gold pocket watch. His wife next to him had long beautiful shiny light green hair. She had on a long blue dress that matched her husband’s suit. Sora walked over and stood next to her parents whilst her mom introduced them to her.
“Now Sora this is Yuri Williams and his wife Akito, they’re Wallace’s parents.” Kerushi said happily.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you Sora, Wallace is just ecstatic about he wedding.” Akito said shaking Sora’s hand.
“Oh I know Sora is too she simply can’t wait to meet Wallace” Kerushi chimed in. Why must my mother always speak for me? I have my own voice and I can say what I want. Sora thought.
“Mother I-““Sora it is not nice of you to interrupt now introduce yourself to Mister Williams.” Kerushi told her.
“Nice to meet you little lady, it’ll be a great pleasure to have you as part of our family.” Yuri said while giving her a hug.
“Now then, shall we sit down and discuss the wedding plans?” Akito asked helping herself to a pastry set out on the table.
“Well it’s agreed that were holding it Hoenn correct? Now should we hold it in your estate or ours? Either way I’m just glad she’s marrying your son and not that terrible kid her grandfather picked out” Kerushi laughed.
Sora rolled her eyes and tuned out of the conversation, she looked around her. Balloons and streamers lined the ceiling, there were ten white clothed tabled with rose centerpieces. Her cake was in the middle and everyone seemed to be chatting and enjoying themselves. She decided to go upstairs and relax to get her mind off getting married. When she walked into her room she noticed something that she did not notice before on her bed: a wedding dress.
It was a gorgeous dress and if she wasn’t so angry she might have tried it on. It was a halter dress, long white with flower diamonds around the middle. The bottom was lacey and puffy like a dress a princess would wear. On the hanger Sora noticed there was a note, she picked it up and read it.
Sora,
Isn’t this just the most beautiful dress you’ve ever seen? It was mine when I got married to your father and now it can e yours on your special day. Oh Sora, on you I know this dress will be just perfect!
Love,
Kerushi (Mother)
Well if there was any glimpse of hope that Sora would end this evening happily it was just destroyed after she finished reading the note. She was mad again and she had to get away to clear her thoughts. When she got outside it was dark and a bit chilly. Sora crossed her arms to make it warmer for herself. There were a lot of lights outside but the brightest came from the family’s temple on top of the hill. Sora decided to walk over there; it would only be a fifteen minute walk by foot. After a while of thinking nothing Sora arrived at the gate. She pulled key out of its hiding spot and unlocked the lock. Once she got in she looked up at the temple; it was large and surrounded by golden statues of the Dane family members. She walked into the temple and into the room where the shrine was and lit incense. Sora sat down and closed her eyes even though it felt a bit off in the room.
Behind her a figure lurked quietly into the shrine room, it moved so quietly that Sora couldn’t even hear it. The darkened figure went over to the resting spot of the blue and red orb and reached out its hand to snatch the red orb when Sora opened her eyes. She saw the figure about to take the red orb so she jumped up.
“No, don’t take that it’s not yours!” She hissed quietly, it was frowned upon to bring bad, loud vibes into the temple, especially near the shrine. It was too late though; the person snatched the red orb and took off.
“Hey come back here” she hissed again, it was then that it hit her to take off after the thief. So she ran as fast as she could after him. The person dashed out of the temple and through the open gate. Sora stopped running to take a breath. “No, please don’t take that” she cried. Tears found their way back to her eyes as they trickled down her face.
I must have left the gate open, that’s how the thief must have got in. I feel so pathetic…why does this have to happen to me now and on my birthday as well?
The figure disappeared into the night leaving Sora by herself to grieve.
I may not be in full control of my life right now but I could have saved those orbs. I can control what happens to those. Maybe if I stand up for my family’s shrine and temple and get those orbs back myself; my mom and dad will let me decided what happens in my life and who I marry. I’m sorry Wallace… but the wedding is off from this day on!
