Hi I am a very old member from this website (must have been about 3 years ago that I hung out here), so hi to anyone who remembers me. Anyway thought I would drop by..with a question;

I don't know the answer to this and people who I have asked don't know either, what came first the Pokemon TV series or the Pokemon games? And if the series, was it owned by nintendo in the first place, or did they buy it when they made the games for it?

Thank you, and nice to be back :D

True, but it's important to remember that Satoshi is not actually Red - he's just very loosely based on him. So many people make this mistake (saying things like "I think Pikachu is at Level 81 'cause that's the level it's at when you fight Ash at the end of G/S/C"), and it's unbelievably annoying.

Actually, Pokemon Red and Green came out in 1995. Blue came out in '96.

Red from Pokemon Special is more based of of the Red of the games than Ash is. XD

No wait, that's the point...

Pikachu is level 100 by now...
Ash is/is based off Red except personality & a few other factors(Red seems more serious and catches much more pokemon.)

apparently they made the game first and then the tv seris Ash is based on the magna character Red
Satoshi is based on the GAME character Red. IIRC, the anime came BEFORE the PokeSpecial manga (which I assume you're talking about, if you're talking about Red in the Pocket Monsters manga...then he surely wasn't based on him, but Satoshi was planned on getting a Pippi like he did before the anime was produced). Trivia: One of the main character's default names in the R/B/G/Y games is Satoshi. Though in the G/S/C games his in-game canon name was finally revealed to be Red (also one of his early default names). Many mistake Satoshi as being based on the creator of Pokemon Satoshi Tajiri, but it is merely a reference to the creator of Pokemon. He was always based on Red. As is Shigeru. Though definately not the same person, they seem to be the same "entity" in different universes.

...What is this "personality" in which you speak of?

The games came first, then the Pocket Monsters manga, then the anime, and then the PokeSpecial manga. Since the games came first, anything that happens in them is the real canon for all of Pokemon. Remember that. XD

I can recall correctly that at first the anime didn't stray too much from the games in the first 80 episodes (sans the shafting of the Rocket Gang sideplot and a few other sideplots, Satoshi losing in the Pokemon League, and no confrontation of the Elite Four). Beginning at episode 81 was when the anime actually became much more of an alternate continuity.

The games came first the first pokemon game released was Pocket Monsters and the game was realized earlier than the anime.
