Two New Banners

I've designed two banners while experimenting with new brushes. They're different from my usual work so I'm actually quite happy. But I would like some critique. Where can I improve, and what tips can you offer, if any?

Those are pretty good banners. =D I really like the second one, the background you used totally matches the picture! the brushes look pretty good, what program did you use? One way to improve your banners is maybe to outline the text. The text on the first one really stands out since you added a shadow to it, but on the second one it just really doesn't stand out that much.. Just keep practicing! =)

I really like those. I like the second one best, but the first one...dark green somehow doesn't work with light pink. The grid lines or the effect used on the whole banner, it makes it look a little bit darker. I'm not a good color clasher...I suck at that, so excuse me if you think it looks fine.

The second one is pretty. That's all I can say.

Um, maybe you should've tried making the pictures themselves have some kind of effect instead of effects all over the picture. Too many effects covering the picture don't really look all that good. Try some effects like making the picture fade or glow, because those 2 banners look a bit, plain.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback. I used Paint Shop Pro to create these graphics. The second banner's text was somewhat outlined in a light shade of blue, but I'd have to agree that it doesn't work so much. Although I really like how it matches the girl's eyes. When I started work on the first banner, a kiwi was in mind, thus spawning the strange green and pink mix. It indeed appears too dark, and may consider lightening it.

Umi Mizuno, I'll take your advice and try adding effects to the pictures themselves. A glow will be nice, but how can I achieve that on PSP?

Thanks once again everyone. I'll keep striving to improve. Take care.

Borders do miracles! To add glow; just do this:

When adding a picture;
Effects - 3D effects - Drop shadow
Colour white is better;

Offset
vertical -1
horizontal -2
Then, do the same but
vertical -2
horizontal -1
Same, but
vertical 1
horizontal 2
Same, but
vertical 2
horizontal 1
That's how I do it. XD

They both look good, especially the second one. That girl reminds me of Colette from Tales of Symphonia. Kudos to ya for being creative! ^_^

but kiwis arent pink. ._.

But i agree with umi, they are relatively plain. Not exactly bad or good, but just a fine average.
