Tyrogue to Hitmontop

So I have a tyrogue. How do I increase his attack to equal his defense? I need to do it by level 20 for hitmontop. I tried 1 protien and it didn't change anything. Do I need to use more?

i'm not the best with ev gain per level but my idea would be to ev train it and level it up as close to lvl 20, make sure you save before you get too close and then just work on the right combination of points to get the numbers equal

For some reason I'm getting all 1s. I am fighting ones like Primeape and Seaking...Is there a chemical solution to my problem like with protien?

I find it easier to just switch between Protein and Iron until you've got it roughly the same, sometimes better to have a one point difference, and then just raise it up. Generally, that works a lot easier than EV training, and if you're lucky enough to have some Rare Candy, you can use that to raise it up a level without much worry on the stat increase on either.​

You must have attack=defense.

I'd raise it to Level 19 as you would to get a Hitmonchan/Hitmonlee, then use those handy-dandy Proteins and Irons to get it's stats equal. Then use a Rare Candy, or raise it a level. (Make sure that if you're battling to get it to Level 20, don't face any Pokemon that will increase your Attack/Defense EVs!) <3

And don't forget to save when Tyrouge is at Level 19. So you can restart if it screws up.

Or try to make another Tyrogue (go to the day care and make ann egg with Hitmon***) to try it too for the lv. 20.

I think you should start to train another Tyrogue. Make sure he has a nature that does not affect attack or defense.

So Bold nature brings attack down...guess I need to fight pokemon with 3 attack boost.

Bold nature raises Defense and lowers Attack, a Quirky, Serious or Bashful Tyrogue will have it's stats almost equal.

Man. It doesn't even help when I fight a 3 attack one like Dragonite or Machamp. It even made Attack ZERO and defense 2. >< Drugs it is. Unless its IMPOSSIBLE for a Tyrogue with Bold to become Hitmontop then I'm gunna keep trying.

---Yeah. I'm gunna use my other Tyrogue. His attack and defense are only 1 apart.

I had quite some difficulty getting Hitmontop myself.

But what I did was wait for a good nature(nothing that affected attack and defense), gave it vitamins to have equal attack and defense by lvl 20(checked this on a program), while training it against pokemon which don't give off attack and defense evs.

Maybe 2 attack points.Each one increases attack EV points by 10.However,after your attack EVs reach 100,the protein will have no effect.You should give it more proteins,or battle low level pokemon that give attack EVs.And like everyone else said,save when it is at L19.
