U.S. November Sales are in for handhelds!!!

The NPD numbers are trickling in, and though we don't have the final spot on tally sales figures on hand, it's clear that Nintendo is still holding its own against the pure muscle that Sony's flexing with its PlayStation Portable.

November was expected to be Sony's biggest month yet with the release of Grand Theft Auto for the PSP, but even with those huge guns, if the numbers are correct both the Nintendo DS and the Game Boy Advance managed to outsell the Sony portable individually.

Though NPD has gone on the record stating that these currently posted numbers are inaccurate and will be updated in the near future, if these numbers are even close to the final tally, no system slouched in sales. Sony managed to sell more than 360,000 systems in the span of November. But the Nintendo DS, using the brutality of Mario Kart DS and other key titles already on the shelves, got more than 380,000 systems in gamers' hands. Of course, the Game Boy Advance, with its newly released Micro design as well as the brand new, brighter SP system, beat both systems combined: Nintendo sold through approximately 900,000 GBA systems in November.
It's strange how the GBA has about nothing new and yet it sells almost twice as much as the DS and PSP. Kinda sad for Sony. I guess Sony is going to have to try harder to beat Nintendo at their own market. People who say Sony's PSP is still dominate in america better start researching cause it clearly isn't the case.

Well the DS did have great releases this month so it wasn't really surprising for me. But as for the GBA, wow I thought those were dead. Good luck on Nintendo keeping this up!

Kinda offtopic but: When does The New Super Mario Bros. Release? I thought it was supposed to be out this month.

I'm very surprised the GBA is still selling so strongly. I surpose it's the same reason people buy the PSP. It's a fasoin accessory. The new Micro is the only portable device which actually fits into your pocket and it looks very groovy when you see it in real life.

Hehe, nope. We haven't been given any release date for that game.

Why's it a suprise the GBA's still selling so strongly? o_O It's the only way one can play older games prior to the GBA without having to get a GB or GBC. Not to mention, it's a lot cheaper now than it was when it first came about. :p

no one can beat nintendo at the very thing that they created, handhelds.
maybe there not as good in the console industry, but handhelds are nintendos best,ps-I once saw a yr12 play pokemon silver, so it must be popular not only among children.

Wow, are you dense or what?

1) Xbox 360 cannot play any old Xbox games unless it can patch a specific selection of games, which requires an Xbox Live account. Currently, Xbox 360's lineup isn't that great. But hey, every console suffers from this.

2) Xbox is CHEAPER than Xbox 360, plus waiting a day or two does not guarantee an Xbox 360 being in stores. Some stores here had to wait two weeks just to get more consoles. Possibly even longer.

3) I'm currently 20 years old. I still play the Pokémon games. 12 is a CHILD AGE. Before teens. Thus being pre-teen. I don't see why people feel there's a limit on age for playing Pokémon games.

You make that sound bad. Everyone has a Live account, on the 360 no matter what, you don't need to pay for a Silver account, and that's enough to go online to the market place, etc to buy things. As soon as you put the game in, it will automatically look online for a patch to run it. All you need is an internet connection. Plus all MOST of the big important titles run.. it's only a matter of time before the rest are patched.

But yeah, I see your point.

Trust me, it wasn't meant to sound bad. :p If I had the money (well, I do have the money..I'm just saving up for other things), I'd spend it on getting myself a 360. As for the not needing to pay for a Silver account, that I was unaware of. Mind explaining a little further with that? o.o

Aww... Crap.
Everyone has a Live account
*Doesn't have a Live account* You have no idea how happy I would be to be able to get one.

Psycap, please stop trying to use sarcasm, you fail at it. Miserably

Those GBA sales are a little surprising to me, I thought they would be high, but not that high. I remember on Black Friday Walmart had the SP for around $50 and Target included a free game with the SP. I'm sure those helped sales, but they are still very impressive regardless.

Somebody mentioned they didn't have a Live account here.. no idea what they were talking about, if you own a 360, you own a Live account, it forces you to create a profile, choose a gamer picture, etc as soon as you turn it on, so it can record your achievments, reputation points, etc.

If you don't want to pay, you get a silver account, that lets you go online to download trailers, demos, content for games, patches, etc. It's really pretty cool, it's a good way to download high defination movie trailers. And being able to download demos for games is a lot better than buying discs. All of that stuff is free, but then there's also the stuff you have to pay for, like Arcade games, more gamer pictures, dashboard themes, but it's all mostly pretty cheap, and worth it if you can afford it. Playing Gauntlet over Live = awesome.

If you want to actually play games Online, you need a Gold account, which costs something like $40 a year. Still pretty cheap, and well worth it if you actually want to play online.

He said year 12, not 12 years old. I do not know about america and australia, but that is the first year in college in the UK, which is 16 years old.

And back on topic. I know what EE said about not been able to play older games on any console available in the shops is true, but I am still shocked that the sales are so high. I would have thought that after been out for so long that every one who wanted one had one. I guess that bringing out the Micro was a good idea on nintendos part. But it just doesnt seem worth the money to me. Others obviously think different.
