Like any nation would regulate or ban AI, Algorithms or Deepfakes...too much money for/in them.

Anyway, India's Modi is a monster. The world's largest democracy has become the worlds 2nd-largest fascist empire(Russia is bigger).

It's official:Nationalism is going to be the death of worldwide freedom, in favor of cults of personality and cash flow, unless people abandon their bread and circuses and DO SOMETHING.

Since I last posted, 3 more GOP reps announced their retirement. They are Bill Flores (TX-17), Jim Sensenbrenner (WI-5), and John Shimkus (IL-15). Also, a House Democrat announced their retirement, that being Susan Davis (CA-53). I also neglected to mention that Jay Inslee, Seth Moulton, and Kirsten Gillibrand all dropped out of the presidential race.

Former Congressman and Governor of South Carolina Mark Sanford officially announced his intent to challenge Trump in the primaries, becoming the President's third notable challenger.

Republican Dan Bishop won the NC-09 special election. This does not mean that the Senate race in the state (currently held by Republican Thom Tillis) in 2020 is safe Republican.

Remember when Democrats fundraised to rebuild a Republican campaign office that NC Republicans burned themselves in order to blame on Democrats.

And then they found a bunch of illegal votes in the ruins

Joe Biden would so be toast if he wasn’t on name recognition and whatever “electability” means now

What a week its been since I last posted here.

The New York Times has revealed more evidence that Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh committed sexual assault during his time at Yale, prompting the President to proclaim he should “sue for liable” - Wharton School Of Finance right there.

There’s been a drone attack on two major Saudi Arabian oil facilities, prompting fears about a spike in petrol prices - But don’t worry Trump say’s there’s “Plently Of Oil” and he’s a stable genius.

And tension with Iran have escalated after the President blamed Iran for the attack.

And across the pond, Boris has completely lost control of both his party and the UK Parliament with just over a month left until Brexit.

Wow politics thread...I leave you alone for one week.

The Arizona Supreme Court granted businesses a right to discriminate against same-sex couples on Monday

I was going to post about this too.

As I understand it, the decision is from the highest court in the state and involves a provision of the State Constitution so it’s highly unlikely it could be appealed or reversed by a federal or the US Supreme Court.

From what I gather the Republican Governor of Arizona has gone to great efforts to stack the court, so this is what they get.

Now more than ever Congress needs to pass the equality act, because that could override the state ruling

Another GOP Congressman is out. Rep. Paul Cook (CA-08) is leaving Congress to run for a County Supervisor seat.

tl;dr of the current Israeli election is Netanyahu and Likud lost, but his right-wing partners have won so he will likely stay in power.

Because Gantz would be forced to a minority government, the only options are either a national unity government for all major parties or another right-wing coalition, which would need more military aggression to distract the voters from Netanyahu's corruption scandal.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joint_List
Due to massive Arab turnout(both Palestinian and non-Palestinian) the Joint List has not suffered greatly, returning back to 13 members of Knesset like in 2015. Regardless of their presence the right wing parties still win the majority by 4 MKs, so this is relatively nice, but not enough to change Israeli politics.

Glad to see we have a progressive senator who helped write the green new deal who’ll likely be primaried by a Kennedy in league with both pharmaceutical companies and fossil fuels
