U.S. Politics: The Biggest Trade in WNBA History

Honestly I would have thought Canadians wouldn’t really care about Trump or even pay much attention to him because they are Canadians and Trump has no power or significance to them and he really can’t do anything to them.
You don't live in the country, especially in multicultural cities where obviously not Canadians acts & thinks the same way. Visibile minorities (non-white) who live there tends to remember the horrors from their native countries, understand hardships and cares about their own communities more so they don't see the sanitary measures against covid like a big deal to them.

It sucks that the whole pandemic causes cultural wars but I do smell arrogance from some protesters that you don't want to associate with them.

Yeah, but the US is their neighbor so there's influence when it's about politics, history, culture & economy.

There's many challenges so that Canada be more independent from the US. Our military power isn't in the top 20 worldwide. There's a lack of arable land along with the 4 seasons which limits our home productions. Western & Central Canada are so far apart that it's nightmare to go between them by car or train. It needs its companies to be known worldwide. It has 9 times less population than its southern neighbor.

I just saw a Don Huffines ad, and he makes Greg Abbott look like a morally upstanding citizen.

His ad talks about Marxism, and shows the removal of Confederate statues like it's a bad thing.

He also dislikes CRT teaching in schools, and he was dumb enough to show a black teacher in school and getting mad about it.
Does he want people to think he's racist?

If I find the ad, I'll definitely share it. It's worse than the Ken Paxton ad I see all the time.

Edit: Doesn't help that he's preaching against "LGBT ideology". Is he trying to embrace all the -isms?

As if we don't have enough going on, now we have to worry about Russia? Can we just get a break....

Ukraine is an independent nation. You don't own them, Putin. You can speak all you want about ties the two nations have, but the reality you refuse to accept is they left the Soviet Union and declared independence 30 years ago. That man will not stop until he's able to reunite the Soviet Union. He truly sickens me.

The thing is, I don't think the U.S. has the military strength to stop him if he goes full force on this (short of bringing back the Draft, which could happen in the case of a war with Russia). Maybe with other NATO allies, MAYBE. But I don't need to tell anyone what the worst case scenario is here. Putin is out and out insane. And he's just the guy that would go that route if he felt threatened.

Just look at what Rick Scott (Florida GOP Senator) wants to do once the Republicans get full control of the government back:

  1. Our kids will say the pledge of allegiance, salute the Flag, learn that America is a great country, and choose the school that best fits them.

  2. Government will never again ask American citizens to disclose their race, ethnicity, or skin color on any government forms.

  3. The soft-on-crime days of coddling criminal behavior will end. We will re-fund and respect the police because they, not the criminals, are the good guys.

  4. We will secure our border, finish building the wall, and name it after President Donald Trump.

  5. We will grow America's economy, starve Washington's economy, and stop Socialism.

  6. We will eliminate all federal programs that can be done locally, and enact term limits for federal bureaucrats and Congress.

  7. We will protect the integrity of American Democracy and stop left-wing efforts to rig elections.

  8. We will protect, defend, and promote the American Family at all costs.

  9. Men are men, women are women, and unborn babies are babies. We believe in science.

  10. Americans will be free to welcome God into all aspects of our lives.

  11. We are Americans, not globalists.
It's all right wing garbage, except for the idea of putting term limits on members of Congress. That's the only thing he said that makes sense if you aren't a fascist lunatic.

Apparently, now Russia is starting to invade Ukraine. Biden is still majorly in denial over these events (for now), thinking sanctions will make everything magically go away. But he is going to have to do something more material than what we're seeing right now, because this is going to define his Presidency.

I'm honestly at a loss for words for the new Texas policy; it's genocide (literally, per UN definition) and *will* kill trans kids. There is no sugarcoating this.

And while getting Abbott and Paxton out of office would be ideal, the hard fact is Texas has spent the last year doubling down on voter suppression in a state that already leans very red, to say nothing about the effective radicalization GOP has accomplished with CRT nonsense. Abbott and Paxton remaining in office come 2025 is, unfortunately, a very real possibility.

On-the-ground efforts and direct action are really the best we can do. As someone who's in the process of becoming a teacher in this hellstate soon-ish, how I should best approach this "law" as a mandatory reporter has been at the forefront of my mind today. I put "law" in quotes, because how legally binding it is is unclear.
----------------------

Also, in probably related news, it's worth remembering Abbott's primary is next week and this happened:

Would be completely unsurprised if Abbott's heinous policy is a distraction.

As very real as that possibility is, say Abbott didn't win the primary; we could still be dealing with a massive problem.

I've mentioned before about Don Huffines. The man claims that Abbott is allowing "Liberal Marxism" to take over Texas. He also warns about "LGBT ideology" spreading. I very much doubt we would get anything better from him.

Now perhaps I'm preaching to the choir on this, but I just wanted to share my schtick again.

If we're being pedantic, yes, I should have said "Abbott, Paxton, or an even more rightwing Republican who primaries them" will remain in office.

The point I'm making is that we shouldn't be betting on a timeline where Texas elects a Democrat governor who can rescind this order. EIther GOP rescinds itself from sheer backlash or we're undestanding it takes direct action which gives organization such as TransEquality, TENT, etc., renewed importance.

It sickens me even more that there ARE Republicans outright supporting Putin and trying to deflect attention to that horrid freedom convoy in Canada. I'm sorry, but you're willing to ignore our enemy invading a sovereign nation because Putin can't accept the reality that the Ukraine left the Soviet Union?

I’m just glad Trump is out of the office and not handling the situation. You know he’d make it 10x worse somehow. Watch Biden get all the blame from Republicans for allowing this to happen when you know they’d praise Trump if he was still in office and Russia invaded the Ukraine.

That's exactly why Putin is attacking now. Biden is a very weak President who literally handed Afghanistan to the Taliban. And Putin knows he doesn't have the guts to fight back against this. I don't like Trump, but Putin wasn't doing this when he was in office. We need to call their bluff.

Easygoing Luxray.
Trump was Putin's ***** and he would have made things much worse. Biden is making sure no one in America dies from massive collateral damage.

Trying to fight Putin right now is not ideal because he's obviously threatening anyone trying to intervene with a nuclear war. About the only things that can stop him are dying from old age or the good people of Russia ensuring he's never in office again.
