House Leader is a dead end career wise, but there's not a real winning move for the GOP, granted I'm sure blowing up the country by not passing a budget sending the economy into shambles would be a win for them.

The GOP had no plans for this. They expected to have a 20-30 seat majority in the House, along with control of the Senate. But, they ended up not getting either of those things, and now they can't even elect a Speaker of the House. This is what the House will be like for the next two years.

You know, by this point, someone with actual leadership skills would have recognized that they can't win and stepped aside for someone else. It should have been clear from Day 1 because they should have known if they had the votes before Congress even convened.

But it's clear that McCarthy doesn't have leadership skills.

One problem is there isn’t a real compromise candidate, otherwise they would have been put forward. When a crazy party has such a slim lead half a dozen of the most crazy members they can’t even get past step one, there’s not much they can do in terms of one party deals.

That isn’t to say McCarthy is skilled in any way though.
