I always claim to be able to name all of the Kanto and Johto Pokémon off the top of my head, but I always forget Corsola and Porygon...

Every time I see Gulpin and Swalot I think "I should use that, no one ever talks about them".
That's the exact reason I used a Grumpig in X. Named it Syrus. Why?

Because Miley Cyrus is a pig.

I would say most Grass-types in general. They are so underrated and most people don't even use them on teams. Meanwhile, everyone seems to love fire the most cause it's the most overrated element. Charizard, Blaziken, and other fire-types receive so much undeserved attention while Grass-types struggle a lot. It isn't fair. Mega Sceptile is awesome, but the metagame has been so cruel to it. Gale Wings Talonflame is a jerk, and Greninja, who has a broken ability, outspeeds its base form. Most Ground types in OU have secondary types that only allow Grass moves to inflict neutral damage. Not to mention, it didn't even get Earth Power as a move-tutor move. And finally, Sceptile is meant to counter Electric-types due to its Lightningrod ability, yet most of them use HP Ice...

Not knocking you -- Grass is my favourite type, but how do we decide which ones are "underrated" and which ones get "undeserved attention"?

I think it's just as simple as "Fire is a better type than grass, so you see it more often". Not so much that Fire is only used because it's "overrated".

And let's remember that competitive viability =/= how loved the Pokemon is.

I don't see much love for the Gothitelle line. Maybe because other Pokemon can fill its role better, but I still like them and used one in my BW run.

Actually Gothitelle has a fair degree of popularity because it's Hidden Ability is so great. Shadow Tag is phenomenal and very few Pokemon can do what it does as a result.

Now if you wanna talk about forgettable Gen 5 Psychic types, look no further than Elgyem and Beheeyem.

There's no possible way this hasn't been posted already, but Parasect. Poor guy has been unloved since the very beginning, even though he's got arguably one of the best moves in the game (Spore) and for a while was the only one who had it.

I suppose in Gen 2 is where Parasect got the most love, as he had both Spore and False Swipe (long before False Swipe was a TM that could be learned by many), and was perfect in PvE as a Pokemon capturing specialist. Once Breloom came along though, nobody wanted anything to do with a slow, moderately-strong Bug/Grass type. :( In Gen 5 I suppose you could say he got slammed even harder, since Leavanny came along-- another Bug/Grass type but with far more speed and power and the rare entry-hazard move Sticky Web, who could thus be used in niche roles in WiFi combat. When had you ever last seen a Parasect in WiFi? Anyone that uses one has got to either be making a statement with it, or role-plays their character in some fashion (neither of which are bad things of course).

Poor Parasect has not only been unloved, but discarded and forgotten as well. By God himself (Game Freak) it even feels like. Even as I say this, I see no reason to use Parasect myself either; I have Compoundeyes Venomoth with Sleep Powder, and False Swipe is a TM move and that about sums it up. Really sorry, Parasect :(

Give some love to flygon please! He needs a mega :p
Actually, I think Flygon is quite well liked among the fanbase, if the fact that I've seen /a lot/ of people complaining about him not getting a Mega is any indication. He seems to have a case of Charizard syndrome: popular despite not being the best competitively. I imagine it's for nostalgia-driven reasons.

Think about it. In R/S/E, your other choices for a dragon are Salamence (popular and cool looking, but you get him way too late in the game, and Bagon is annoying to train up), Kingdra (Horsea comes way too late in the game, Dragon Scales are hard to come by IIRC, and not everyone could trade), and Altaria (caught early enough in the game, but sucked back then and was considered too cutesy/girly). Flygon suffers from none of these problems - he looks cool, was actually good back then, and his base form is caught at a good point in the game. I imagine a lot of people used Flygon in their games and have fond memories of using one.

That's my observation, at least.

Crobat. I absolutely love its design for some reason.

How the heck is Crobat unloved? I hear mostly positive things about this Pokémon.

It also doesn't help that because of one of its abilities it has 5x weakness to fire.

I honestly think Stunfisk's pretty cute.

A lot of the initial-route Pokemon (and their evolutions) seem to be really neglected. I love Liepard, Mightyena, and Furret, and harbor no dislike for Watchog, Raticate, or others.

It's not super popular, but I've seen some love for Mightyena. But I think it's mostly because of ORAS hype and because it's a canine Pokemon, most of which seem to be well-liked.

What about Heatmor? I don't see a lot of love for that thing. Even I forgot it's name at a point.
