I have said it before and I shall say it again.
when ash battle burgh and his sewaddle evolved it was the first time ever that one of ash pokemon evolved in a gym battle, and while I'm not say this to complain it just seems it would be a cheap way for ash to win by evolution.
And it is a small chance that it will happen twice more.
But everyone is open to their own opinion.

I'm really glad the next gym battle is so quick after the last one.

My answer is maybe the writer's want to have each gym leader only use 3 Pokémon (though if Iris battles, hopefully she'll have 5 Pokémon and be an exception) and debut at least 1 Pokémon.

Since I'm bored, I'll post how I hope Ash's battles against Skyla, Brycen, Drayden & Iris (it's amazing how there are less than half of the gym leaders left already!) go, first posting who I think Ash will use and the gym leaders.

Before I respond to this quote, I just want to say I severely doubt Boldore will stop at Clay when there's two gyms after Clay that are weak against rock types. I don't mind Boldore/Gigalith skipping Skyla as long as Tranquill/Unfezant is in that gym and actually beats something. If the writers don't care about Tranquill/Unfezant then I just won't care about that gym at all, even if it turns out to be the best one in Best Wishes.

Now to respond to the quote. The only problem that I see with that is that there would actually have to be rival battles, and right now it seems as if Best Wishes is battle lite. I mean sure we did get a battle with Koharu a few episodes ago, but look at what happened, only starters battled her, so even if we start getting more and more battles, odds are it will just service the starters to get more wins or losses.

So I'm a little hesitant, I would hope that between Clay and Skyla, that there will be a "3-episode" tourney where hopefully Ash, maybe Cilan and Iris, can use most of their Pokemon (and if Pikachu ends up in the tourney, hopefully he can go first, and then stay away). The Pokemon I would like Ash to use in this hypothetical tourney assuming it isn't a 1 on 1 format like the club battle are: Tranquill, Swadloon, Boldore, Scraggy, Oshawott/Snivy. I think Tepig and Palpitoad can stay away and so can either Oshawott/Snivy whichever one isn't confirmed first to be battling. But if Ash would use all of his Pokemon, I'd definitely wouldn't mind.

Palpitoad receives neutral damage to ice types due to its ground typing. However like how a water type isn't completely a bad choice against electric types (since Electric type Pokemon don't resist water type moves), Palpitoad wouldn't be a bad choice anyway since it would still be able to inflict neutral damage on the ice Pokemon.

Palpitoad doesn't resist Ice, it takes normal damage.

Scraggy? I was talking about Pignite against Skyla. I agree on Scraggy being in the last 2 gyms but Pignite should get Gym #6 7 Gym #7. Pikachu can sit out until the last gym.

I probably said that yes, but when it comes to a pattern that lasts from the the 3rd gym battle in Kanto to the 3rd one in Unova, you have to admit, there's a pattern.

Oh, you so were against Swadloon being used, I remember your posts a bit, unless you mean that you didn't mind Swadloon being used, just not over Tranquill, which is okay because that's your opinion.

Ash does use a Pokemon with a disadvantage sometimes, but a Pignite going up against Archeops, just seems a bit too silly, it would have two disadvantages.

You might not like same species vs. same species battles, but face it that they happen.

Exactly, one a battle that we only saw a bit of, but its battle against Stoutland was not that much of an achievement, considering Stoutland's moves and the fact that Ash losing in the first round probably wouldn't have happened. Even against Zebstrika, he had a big advantage and after all those battles, he lost to Emolga. His battles haven't been that good in my opinion.

So now Palpitoad has a lot of battles, 3 is not that much.

Okay, you might not enjoy the species vs. species battles that much, but the reserves could have other gyms and important non gym battles instead. And it's not like I want Palpitoad to win this much.

What's not to understand. The first gym's battle is based around the main character, you, facing the elemental monkey that is good against your started, which was probably why Oshawott battled Pansage. Where's Pignite has no reason to be in the flying gym.

Yes, Grovyle was at an advantage, but Ash didn't have a lot of good Pokemon that could be affective against sky types and Grovyle was good speed and jumping wise. Corphish probably couldn't of handled that gym battle, neither could have Torkoal.

And Ash never used a Grovyle against Skyla, he did against Winona though.

The quote I just quoted you on, mentioned about Scraggy still being able to be used in the flying gym and I agreed.

Sure, Pignite could be used in the flying gym, but if it would go up against a Archeops, that wold sort of be stupid, considering the massive type disadvantage.

Fighting attacks will do neutral damage to Archeops, and Rocks attacks will do neutral damage to Pignite. There is no massive type disadvantage, only fire attacks won't be effective and flying will be effective. => SAME for Scraggy (with fire becoming fighting)
