• Hi all
    Just a notice, we recently discovered that someone got into a moderator account and started hard deleting a load of key and legacy threads...around 150 threads have been lost dating back to 2007 and some weeks ago so we can't roll the forums back.
    Luckily no personal data could be accessed by this moderator, and we've altered the permissions so hard deleting isn't possible in the future

Hoopa suspect has been talked about I believe, but nothing comes of it since its quite slow and frail relatively speakin to other offensive threats
of course it does demolish bulkier teams

Hello, for those who don't know me I've been around comp since 2012, and ran several Guilds and ran numerous tournaments in the past; now I mostly lurk around comp and participate in PASBL. I look forwards to having some input into the guild with this CCAT and tour

Overview of RBY OU: RBY OU is a vastly different tier than OU of today’s time. And as such there are several changes to be away of.
1) RBY OU has some famous glitches, for the sake of the upcoming tournament I feel like they should be kept a secret and to be discovered. However some moves have vastly different effects.
2) Freeze can only be removed by being hit with a fire type attack
3) Waking up from sleep takes 1 turn
4) Max stat is 999 with boosts.
5) Special attack and defence are one stat.
6) Critical Hits are based off of Speed.

Procedure:
1) Choose a pokemon to base the team around
2) Vote on sets for said mon
3) Propose new mon + set for the team
4) Vote on proposed mons
5) Repeat 3+4 until we have a team of 6
6) Any proposed changes

Each stage will take 3 days unless a clear winner is emerging, Please use the form below when nominating a moveset since RBY doesn't have items it makes formatting easier

Hoopa-U may be very strong but he lacks speed and defenses. He's very open to the super common U-Turn and Fairy Typing.

I don't think it is banworthy. Just a bunch of people don't know how to work around it. *cough* U-Turn Talon *cough*

Nobody leaves their Hoopa-U in on obv U-Turns and the fairies of the tier are usually OHKO'd through Gunk Shot or predictable enough as a switch in to Fire Punch. Though I think its the Specs set that really gave Hoopa its suspect status.
It basically comes down to that if it comes in; it gets a kill. I think it's all a conspiracy so stall can thrive...DOWN WITH STALL.


Personally, I don't wanna see Hoopa-U banned either cause I like to manhandle stall with it.

Yeah nobody is dumb enough to leave it in on obv u-turns. I think Klefki and M-Manectric are surprisingly great counters for him. Klefki can para/toxic Hoopa, and M-Mane can carry Signal Beam and outspeeds almost everything in OU that doesn't carry a scarf.

I think what may have dropped him into suspect is the fact he is similar to Greninja, very strong and can be unpredictable at times, however I think he's a lot easier to work around because he doesn't have Protean. :p

The problem with your argument black is that everything you've said has been an offensive threat or is better equipped to be on an offensive team. Paralyzing hoopa u will barely help a stall team as it will probably have the bulk to come in on weak stall attackers and ohko something. The argument that's it's broken isn't; it's universally a good pokemon against all arche types and demolishes everything in it's way like Genesect did. The argument is that it completely eliminates the viability of a playstyle on it's own.

Personally I want to see Hoopa stay around as I believe it balances the meta game (both playstyles and mons that are viable) but I haven't managed to see an argument that shows it isn't broken the way they are saying it is


Though I do plan on running some calcs to see if anything unorthadox can handle hoopa. These are the best optionss I've found and they are...not good

[spoiler="Bulky Dragonite/Gyarados] So far Bulky Nite and sp def gyara can come in and not get 2hko'd by hoopa (as long as rocks are not up) but they fail to do anything significant back. Best case scenario seems to be Hoopa is lo, not running hp ice (kinda common?) or electric (lol) and you stall it a few turns to let lo whittle it down then follow up with a stab move once it hits 50% hp. Once again though, rocks need to be up and Hoopa cannot crit. If Hoopa is specs you can switch in and switch to the appropriate mon to take the hit but that's even worse to rely on. Also gyara is going to have to rest and cannot do this repeatedly. Also you're almost guaranteed to be down a mon which is meh[/spoiler]

So Phys def umbreon can take on mixed Hoopa and ohko with foul play after lo recoil. Band Hoopa 2hko's with drain punch and specs ohko's with focus plast

I have seen HP Ice. It is somewhat common, but generally Dark Pulse is hitting the things its supposed to surprise hard enough. The argument for Mandibuzz is that T-Bolt kills it so electric is also on the list of coverage. LO is good to stall it, but most if not all are choiced in some way, from what ive expereicned. Trying to check the usage bot, but it apparently doesnt work if the tier is gone or something, which it is right now. All in all though, as much as we may not want it gone simply for the fun and pressure it so easily puts on, it may just have to go the more im readin into it. I can see where Erron was coming from, it does seem manageable with its meager speed and defense, but apparently that doesnt stop it from just destroying things.

Speakin of the new tier now, let's have a chall for it! I'll ring it up later.
