Venusaur moveset advice

Yepper, it's me again. I'm pretty sure this will be the last time I make one of these single member help threads, but I can't make any promises.

Yeah, I have my Venusaur who needs some critique.

;003;Venusaur
Moveset
Toxic /Sludge Bomb
Maigcal Leaf
Attract /Sleep Powder
Leech Seed

I have made my own planned changes, but I need to know if they would be good changes.
Edit: Something else has struck my fancy...how in the world do you people figure out the EV's of a Pokemon?

EV spreads are kinda hard to explain, but most of them are competitive. There are special formulas within the game that make it necessary to set enough EVs to reach a certain stat. What's key is that you have to have IVs of 31 to be able to set EVs accurately, and IVs are often hard to calculate.

I don't think I did a very good job of explaining that, so hopefully someone could help me. As for your Venusaur set, I like this one best for InGame, though you have options.

Venusaur @ Leftovers
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Sleep Powder
- Leech Seed
- Sludge Bomb
- Earthquake

Evs are the effort values a Pokemon gets after fighting Different Pokemon. These will vary on what Pokemon you fight. For example, if you versed a Heracross, after fainting it, your Pokemon would receive 2 Attack Evs. This is doubled if you have Pokerus, the Lucky Egg, or the Macho Brace.
The easiest way to keep up with your Evs is to make a tally. So when you get the Evs you want, put a mark to indicate that you have got that Ev.
(God this is hard to explain)
Mabie this helps.

For Vena', you can use Nine Thou's set, but you could have a Mild Nature, and put in Magical Leaf over EQ.
Or if you want, you could have Nine Thou's set, but Replace EQ with Swords Dance.

XRay

---what I'm getting
What Nine Thou said, or this
Venusaur@leftovers
Nature: Modest
-Razor leaf
-Leech Seed
-Sleep Powder
-Synthesis/Toxic

This is what I use and it works pretty good.

But what about the STAB that comes with Sludge Bomb? Wouldn't Sludge Bomb get a X1.5 increase of it's attack power because Venusaur is part poison? If that's the case than Sludge Bomb's power would be 135 because if you take Sludge Bomb's power of 90 and multiply it by 1.5 = 135. Is that right? or did I get the value of STAB wrong?

the thing is, is that poison type moves are only good for taking out grass types and sense there are so many grass/poison types out there it is a little worthless, and if you dont have sludge bomb then you can give it a bold or calm nature.

My Venusaur has a calm nature.

So then I should just go with Earthquake? But the STAB of Sludge Bomb is better...but then like you said, Poison isn't too good against very many types...Plus, I don't know how many Fire type pokemon Venusaur can outspeed..but Earthqauke is good against Poison, Rock, Steel, and Electric types also......so would Earthquake be better in the long run?

I still think sleep powder, leech seed, giga drain, and substitute, with leftovers is the best set with calm.

Why Synthesis? Would that be better with Sunny Day, which would tie into the Sunnybeamer combo (which I don't think I will do because Venusaur does not have clorophyll)? Or is Leech Seed the best?
