Sony did their fanbase wrong. As if the $500-$600 pricetag wasn't enough for them to chew on, the limited supply makes matters worse.

Yesterday at 3:00pm, people could be seen camping out for the PS3 when it doesn't even get released until tonight. But each store is going to get, roughly, 2 to 10 of them. So a majority of the people camping for this thing sat out in the cold for diddly squat.

Normally I'd put the blame on them for their own foolish mistake (nothing could get me to camp out in the cold for a day and a half for something I can't really afford to begin with) but Sony's milking this. It's like they anticipated that the only way they were going to sell their system this season was by putting the pressure on the consumers. They're doing just that.

What's sad is that about half the people anticipating a purchase are there merely for the chance to make some ridiculous cash on Ebay. That isn't entirely Sony's fault but meh.

Christmas is nothing but a chance for people to line their pockets, huh? :/

Two thumbs down on the way Sony handled their launch. If I were you, I'd go for something else.

Thoughts on the matter?

I think you're absolutely right - Sony made a huge mistake with the PS3. The price tag is WAY too high, and their attempt at an innovative controller is of course no way near as good as the Wii Mote. That's not me being fanboyish, it's just that the Wii Mote is capable of so much more that the PS3 controller.
And with hardly any available at launch...-_-; Kinda pathetic, really. It seems like the PS3 could soon meet it's demise...

I read in a magazine that Sony wants 6 million PS3's shipped worldwide by March 07. Yeah right.

If they start with 40,000, in just one country, then they'll need over a year to ship 6 million...

yet alone SELL 6 million...

Totally unnecessary system.
They're trying to sell it as a home entertainment system...
but nobody's gonna buy it for blue ray, even if it is good.
Because the american consumer doesn't understand "Blue ray"
they understand hd-dvd, that's simple enough to understand,
and did you see the reaction of people when sony said that they were going to have motion sensitive controllers... priceless.

Gyroscopics are so yesterday.


Ever since Sony decided to enter the handheld market, they've been making questionable decisions. They don't even want the PS3 to be called a game system. They keep dressing it up as a computer... and it's not. And you saw how the home entertainment aspect of the PSP didn't drive sales any further.

Sony needs to get with the program... or start making computers.

um so what? They make other things as well such as films, music, and televisions?

Playstation 3 is going to be awesome I can make just as many excuse of how shitty the Wii is as well, but I won't.

Wii doesn't even have anything to do with this matter. And besides, we're not talking about how awesome it is. We're talking about how PS3 is being launched. Sony fans are left with nothing but a promise of 6 million PS3s next year. That is Sony's big mistake right there. Christmas is the optimal time to launch such an expensive system.

They are doing a christmast launch dude...when you get your business degree, or hell when you even have just a job in business ethics come back and talk.

Maybe I should have left the Wii stuff out of my post...

But really, the PS3 launch seems kinda crappy, with 40,000 in Japan (if THEY get that, just think how many the UK will get...probably 10,000!

And people are selling them online for even higher prices. I read that people paid homeless people to buy the PS3 for them...O_O It was in the Game Central part of Teletext on Freeview (TV thingy in Britain)...

I saw the PS3 given away on MTV today and just about on every news network about people lining up and fighting, Sony is getting TONS of free press from "shortages".

.. so? why do u complain? im tired of this im sick of people saying, "oh wow the ps3 is so high !! i cant afford it WII IS GUNNA BE Better :-o" so? u dont have to post a thread and complain about it? just talk to your self and just wait for the wii in November 19 thats not that hard i mean im gunna buy a myself and just buy the wii later on but as i was saying its getting really old people.. like i said before please stop complaing about the ps3 like the ps3 being $600 dollars and 500$ oh yea and stop complaing about when your soooo mad that u have to wait next year for the ps3 in the UK and some othere states i forgot well please?

haha good post dude, it just seems people can't help themselves these days. But god forbid you say something negative about the Wii here you'll get a 3 page lecture about casual gamers who I don't give a rats butt about.

What exactly defines "casual" and "hardcore" though?

I mean, I've been playing Video Games all my life, and own like 15+ systems...yet I don't really care for graphics too much, nor do I wait outside for a new system. Am I not considered "hardcore" meaning my opinion doesn't matter?
