Video game violence?

UltimatePokemonExpert

If a person wants to play a game where you blow apart people and watch video game porn, that's up to them. I do think that their should be limits on what ages can play what games. Like how everyone can play E, Teens can play T, adults can play M and AO, etc.

Banning violent video games would not only be very stupid, it would also be wasteful if a good game is never played solely because it's violent. That's a waste of an artform.

Bro... Best way to put it. Its good to see someone with the same views as me

no the parents should just be stricter and not allow 4 year olds to play rated m games..there is no reason to get rid of violence when everyday we are faced with violence....really kids under 13(better yet under puberty) that play call of duty just stop please for the love of whatever god you worship just stop

I agree with the majority of people talking. People shouldn't let nine year olds play Black Ops and other M games. It's not the child's fault for playing the game- childeren have a natural curiosity- but the parents sitting back and letting the game be played.

I actually read somewhere that playing co-op games without extreme violence, such as super mario, actually grow up to kinder and more helpful.

This basically is sort of where I sit. Instead of banning video game violence, couldn't we just have parents pay some more attention to video games they let their kids play? My parents did so until I was 17, which is, of course, the age "floor" for M-rated games, if the ratings were actually enforced.

Young children should not be playing Call of Duty and the like, even if it's with their parents. Not that I know many parents who would be interested in doing such a thing, but there you are.

Banning video game violence would be serious overkill. Most to all video games are violent, even if it's not garroting-kittens Mortal Kombat-class violence. You get some things that, yes, but you also will wind up taking out things that are by and large harmless if you ban violence in video games.

I see no reason to ban video game violence. Like most said, it's up to the parent for the most as to what the child plays. Just because some soccer moms don't like it when little Jimmy plays a game with some blood doesn't mean they can try to change the system as a whole. Don't like it? Don't let your son play the game, you are the one who is most likely gonna buy it anyway, do some more reserch.

Althought I can't put all the blame on the parent, I was at GameStop a while ago and a lady ask the one of the guys at the desk, what would be a good game for a birthday present for her grandson? The guy said, Black ops, or reserved Gears of War 3. -_- Granted he had no ideal how old the grandson was, he could assume that most teenage boys pick out there own birthday present. So most likely the boy was young of age, I told the lady that Sonic Gerations would probally be the better choice, taking the age of the grandson into account. The guy at the desk looked pissed but fuck him, I don't care, he should be better at his job.

You really are tedious. Wtf does he care, and wtf do you? He's working a shitty retail job for minimal pay, only to lose a sale because you can't keep out of other people's business. Literally nothing to do with you.

I bet that kid is really grateful you got him a game he'll probably like less.

Sometimes kids will appreciate it. I saw a sales rep pushing a PSP on a couple for their small son when I realized I should tell them to just get him a DS instead.
It's not a bad thing when a sales rep is giving bad advice. At the end of the day they sold game. Gamestop only cares about pre-orders and sales of magazines anyways.

Who the hell are you? Gamestops' sales doesn't affect his pay, and preordering a game plus buying it when it comes out counts as losing a sale? Other peoples business, I work in retail, Toys R Us to be exact, it was a impulse, and a good one at that, if anything, I made the store money.

Don't come on like you're any better because all you end up doing is looking like a *******.

Yeah because little kids enjoy playing a shitty campain and online with everyother person calling them a ***^t if they get a kill as opposed to a colorful blue hedgehog with simple and fun gameplay ment for all ages. Here is something; if the kid does happen to be older, then he is old enough to RETURN the game, and get someting he likes.

But don't reply because that's what your best at when your back is against the wall.

Is he gonna call me fascist? It's anybodys guess! lol

I dunno, my local GameStop cashier was pretty nice, and concerned about ratings. I was buying GTA for my younger cousin who was with me, and I was required to present my ID, he read me the rating and the reason why it was rated that way, etc etc, looked concerned, did everything responsible that he could as a neutral party. If anything, I think he didn't want my cousin to have it.

They are required to try and sell you stuff, but that's not limited to the adult games. They'll latch onto anything you mention and give you as many recommendations as an internet advertising service. It's not like they're amoral, just doing their job.

... this is the exact reason I'm banned from art class, it involved a lot of yelling about COD at the kid sitting next to me and a thrown pencil.
So ban me from being violent. If kids don't learn about gang violence, it could be bad, but this is enforcing it.

Now I dont believe in Banning Video Game violence, but I do believe in Banning or making a law of Kids not being able to play those certain types of games. Such as any rated "M" Game that has excessive amounts of Gore, Violence, Guts and stuff along that matter.

Also I believe that Sexual interaction, AKA Sex should be removed from all games. Reason being is, Why would you want to watch an animated Character having sex with another animated character, Such as Grand Theft Auto.

Now I dont believe that adults shouldn't Be able to own these games, I am saying if there are adults that have them, Dont let your 10 or 12 year old son or daughter play them, Its not appropriate.

Also If kids are watching Extreme Violence sometimes it disturbs them, as while other kids are sitting on there couch or rocking chair screaming "kick his ***" at Ten years old they shoudn't be saying that type of language in front of there younger siblings or in front of there Parents.

My point is Games like Call Of Duty is fine to me do to it doesnt have Guts everywhere. But games Like 'Grand Theft Auto' which has a list of why its rated "M" can cause Future children behaviors

You made the store money? On what planet did you do that?

The store probably makes more per COD sale than it does per Sonic Generations sale, but that's beside the point. The point is that you have no right to be such an intrusive little know it all. You have no idea how old the kid was who was getting the present, you don't know him, so why do you care? Instead you are just adding tedium to an already sucky job.

Your rhetoric on many issues is nigh fascistic.

Haha, trust me, my back has nor will ever be anywhere near the wall when debating you. For that to be the case you'd have to make some worthwhile points. Though I am interested to know what this "what I am best at" thing is refers to. Replying to your moronic diatribes?

Well you've never stated that you knew how old this kid was, but the rest of your post is pointless anyway. Maybe he enjoys COD more than Sonic? Maybe all his mates have it already and he wants to get it so he can multiplayer with them? Maybe he prefers shoot em ups to platformers. Maybe you shouldn't give a **** because it's nothing to do with you.

Essentially, what you're saying is that you decided to get involved in something that had nothing to do with you simply because you prefer Sonic to COD. What a sad life you lead.

Just out of interest, did you ever watch a film before you were of legitimate age to do so?

Pre-order plus buying the game in full = Profit. Sonic Generation isn't out yet.

Oh God fobid I try to suggest a infromative suggestion to someone. The clerk had no ideal either and just suggested the most popular game in the store. Not really a really great way to do your job, Im pretty sure the kid would rather play a good game. Also taking the fact that CodBO has been out for nearly a year and if he did play those types of games he most likey would of hd it at that time.

Your rhetoric on many issues is nigh fascistic.

Nice story.

Well you're clearly butthurt if you have to keep resorting to name calling.

Like I said, if he liked those things, he most likely would of had this game. Or how about this; maybe you shouldn't give a **** because it's got nothing to do with you? I can atleast asume, that if a G-mom is looking for a game for her grandson that it could be a good guess to say he's around the 5-12 range.

Oh wow, what a way to twist words. No, I simply suggested a game that a little kid might happen to like more, she brought it, and considering it was at full price as compare to the discounted BlackOps, I'd say the store making money and the kid having a enjoyable is a good thing.

What a sad life you lead.

Which doesn't matter, because I never suggested the Sonic game based on rating, but instead on Gameplay and presentation.

Actually I agree with JB here Sno. The salesperson should have asked the age of the grandson before offering a title. An ignorant consumer requires better service. Had the Gran bought Sonic or CoD there isn't much difference in price between the titles. The salesman lost the sale because he couldn't do his job right in the first place. The first question needed to be, "How old is the granchild?" That would have then told him what game rating he needed to work with.

I'd have done the same thing in the given situation, I'm a gamer and a parent, people like JB are appreciated by parents like me.

What makes you think that? Both titles are at the same price. CoD sale would actually give the Gamestop employee less incentive to sell then any pre-order he can rake in. Sonic Generations is a pre-order since it's not out yet. All game stop cares about again is pre-order and magazine sales. So he's alright with it.

Pre-order plus buying the game in full = Profit. Sonic Generation isn't out yet.

Right, so you'd make the kid wait for his game? You're unbelievable. However, let's look at the reasons as to how you could have cost the company money.

1. If the gran's struggling with the concept of video games, and which is the best, the idea of pre-ordering may be lost on her too. She may opt out on the sale.

2. After you've undermined the clerks authority for no reason other than to satisfy your ego, the woman may think she's being played, and not purchase something/ not want to go the store again.

Oh God fobid I try to suggest a infromative suggestion to someone. The clerk had no ideal either and just suggested the most popular game in the store. It is a perfectly fine way to do your job. Woman comes in asking for a game for her grandson, you point her towards the shoot-em-ups. She asks for something more specific, you point her towards something more specific. I wouldn't mind if you'd actually made an informative suggestion in order to help her and nothing else, but your smug pride about the clerk's frustration sums up how petty you are. You take pride in making someone's shitty job shittier. Congrats.

Who cares how long COD has been out? Maybe he just got a 360. Maybe this is the birthday his rents say he can have shoot em-ups. Maybe his mates have all decided to get something. You don't know and it's none of your business.

Nice story.

Not really. The protagonist is very unsympathetic.

Well you're clearly butthurt if you have to keep resorting to name calling.

How can I not insult a man so petty that he believes a restaurant should ban smokers just so his own meal is more to his liking? People like you just make life less worthwhile.

Like I said, if he liked those things, he most likely would of had this game. Or how about this; maybe you shouldn't give a **** because it's got nothing to do with you? You could at least learn to spell and construct sentences.

All of the above assumptions are nothing more, assumptions. You had no right to get involved based on assumptions.

Oh wow, what a way to twist words. No, I simply suggested a game that a little kid might happen to like more, she brought it, and considering it was at full price as compare to the discounted BlackOps, I'd say the store making money and the kid having a enjoyable is a good thing.

You clearly dislike COD and like Sonic. No twisting of words was necessary.

Comming from the guy that drinks to make friends.

Inaccurate.

So it is because you prefer Sonic to COD?

Malanu, I'll say to him what I said to you. None of your business. Step off. Really is that simple. If you know the family or the specifics, then fine. Otherwise, none of your business. At all.

Thats just silly. You're making just as much as an assumption as JB is. In the end gamestop employee was happy anyways since he got one more pre-order in his numbers. If the kid doesn't like the game maybe he can return it as long as he doesn't open it.
CoD makes enough money as is anyways and I'm sure getting sonic off the shelf actually works out better for them.

Sno its a debate, I don't need to step off, I was respectful to you in my disagreement, and expect the same in return whether we disagree or not, otherwise it's just an argument.

Remember the old adage, "It takes a village to raise a child". If we don't take part in helping one another we are the problem with our society.
