Vindex RPG Q&A Thread

Cameron Oakley

Perky Trainer
Since there seems to be a lot more questions and interested people than I anticipated, ^_^;, I asked if I could start a thread for questions here. I don't know if blatant discussion of the Vindex role play is allowed so if there are anymore questions ask them here and I'll try my best to provide an answer. I'll go back later and add the questions already asked into this post. Just click the picture in my signature to go to the sign-up thread.

First and foremost though, here are the list of role players and their characters.

Questions & Answers

Q: Are reservations allowed?
A: Yes, reservations are allowed, but make sure you don't ask and then forget.

Q: Do humans always fuse with their Vindex or only under extreme emotion?
A: The Vindex is able to come out by the holder either simply saying its name (Pikachu, Scyther, Chikorita, etc.) or if the holder has a strong burst of emotion(s). Such as if a character is surrounded and about to be attacked by the enemy, the Vindex would activate because of the fear or desperation the character might have been feeling. The body of person who uses the Vindex would fully become the Pokémon contained within the crystal so no anthropomorphic people/Pokémon. Basically, the human becomes the Pokémon.

But yes, the human always has to allow the Vindex to fuse with them in order to be of assistance. The only catch is that if a human has the Vindex activated for an extended period, the human's mind might wear down from exhaustion and this would allow the Pokémon's mentality to take over. If they are in the form for an extremely long period of time, the human might lose all consciousness leaving control to the Pokémon.

Q: If a human stays in the Pokémon form too long and loses consciousness what happens? Can the human still return to their normal form?
A: After a human loses consciousness, the Pokémon is in complete control. Basically, it would act as a regular wild Pokémon, but it would not be able to be captured because there is still a small part of the human mind that may remain. The human can return to their human form, but it will take quite a lot of effort and remembering who they are.

Q: Can a Vindex materialize without combining with the trainer?
A: No.

Q: How would the TMs and HMs work?
A: It would be like how Ash teaches his Pokémon attacks on the cartoon. They have to learn through concentration and training. Not the little CDs or whatever that are on the games. The characters would have to be in their Vindex form while training and attempting to learn attacks that the Pokémon doesn't learn normally.

Q: I know you're looking for leaders, but is that all that you're looking for? Or can simple soldiers be employed also?
A: Just being a regular soldier is also very much an option.

Q: If I decide to create two characters would it be at all unfair/impertinent to make them both leaders of a squad?
A: If you're looking to play two characters, right now, you can have only one leader position (it's just to give others who might want to be a squad leader a chance.) If there are no others that would like to become a squad leader after a certain amount of time then role playing two characters that are squad leaders will be available.

Q: Can the crystal, stone, or whatever the Pokémon is contained in be broken?
A: Yes, they can be broken or shattered. If shattered, the Pokémon within dies.

Q: Are our characters allowed to be related to existing characters (canon characters, that is)?
A: The only characters from the games/show on here are the bad guys. I guess being the son/daughter of a gym leader is possible as well. I'll let that roll I guess, just as long as there's no Ash, Misty, Brock, Gary, etc.

Q: Since the Vindi are, from what I read in the Plot, the old Pokemon trapped in crystals, would it be possible for one to come across one that happens to be one of their old Pokemon?
A: Yes, it is possible.

1. Since you have a no egg moves policy; what's your stance on starting out with TM moves? Can we have as many as we want, a certain limit (e.g. 3) or none at all?

In the beginning, none because I don’t want people to begin making an already well rounded Pokémon using the TMs. This will at least provide a lot more room to grow and to watch as characters struggle to learn new attacks in order to ensure their survival. I’m already letting you guys hit up to level 55, over half of 100. ^_^

2. The move Foresight; can it be used in a Frisky (the ability you perverts) way? The ability allows you to see what item your opponent has and since Foresight is searching and identifying your opponent I can see it having a similar effect.

Lol, that kind of reminds me of someone’s ability from Naruto. I think it was Naruto. Naw, don't like this one too much lol. If someone's a Lucario (aura ability) or Luxray (x-ray ability) they can do it. ^_^

3. The move Snatch; can it be used to steal your opponent’s item as well as there power up? If not then I'll just settle for thief.

I was thinking about that as well, particularly thief. Yeah, but don’t get out of hand with it. That goes for everyone. I don’t want people typing “oh I used thief and stole your all your Vindi.” As for snatch, no, that’s for stealing an opponent’s power up or healing move. As for knock-off (before it comes up), the crystal can’t be knocked off if the person is already in their Vindex form (the crystal won't be visible). It can be knocked away before they attempt to transform. Once again, do not get carried away.

4. Is there a limit to how many Pokémon you can have around a certain level? At the moment my Pokémon's levels are 32, 38 and 42 for certain moves that they or there pre-evo learn at that level however I'm worried about power playing (even though two of them have the move for its effect rather than for battling).

If you’re worried about power playing then get rid of ‘em or it’s basically for the effect, then use the move only for that purpose. I put level 55 as the maximum and I think myself that is too high (I like freedom that’s why it’s so high), but it is possible to control yourself and not power play while still role playing effectively. Having all three at level 55 wouldn’t leave any real room for growth and definitely would feel like a person would be leaning towards power playing. To solve this, just make your Pokémon at a lower level.

5. Do Vindi take up bag space? If so how much? Would they have to be stored in a Treasure Sack? If so how many would you be able to fit in a treasure sack (10, 5, 1?)

People can own an unlimited number of Vindi however, but have no more than six on hand. They don’t take up bag space. A crystal can be worn as an accessory or hidden in someone’s pockets. The person has to be holding/touching the Vindex crystal while saying its name in order for it to activate. The excavators are the ones that are allowed quite a number of Vindi because lol they’re the excavators. I wouldn’t recommend fighters having a bunch on hand because the possibility of them losing a few will be greater. That’s why I said that the usual number of Vindi carried was six. Out of habit from the old way, but if that’s not solid enough, I’ll put a cap on it now. No more than 6 on hand to use in battle. As for the excavators, they can have more in their possession because as I said, they’re the excavators, but they’re under the 6 only rule as well (6 only used during a fight). Besides, it would tiresome transforming from human to Vindex, back to human and then to another Vindex. (Oh you can’t slide from one Vindex into another like Digimon do the slide evolution thing. Meaning if you have a Meowth and Squirtle Vindex and you’re a Meowth right now you’d have to transform back into a human before transforming into the Squirtle.) Not to mention any new Vindex found would be the equivalent of a wild Pokémon, which means that they won’t just suddenly have perfect control. It takes time and practice to get control of a new Vindex, depending on what and how strong it is. I wouldn’t expect a person to have trouble with a newly found Caterpie Vindex as they would with a newly discovered Electabuzz Vindex.

6. How much space does an item like Explorers Kit (thing that lets you go underground in Shinnoh) take up?

I’ve never done the Explorer Kit underground thing so I don’t really know how that works. ^_^;;;

7. Does food and drink take up a slot (unless its like MooMoo Milk or Rare Candy)?

No, the food and drink don’t take up a slot, unless it is something like MooMoo Milk. I kind of felt guilty when they put small things like watches as an item (that’s an accessory), but didn’t have the heart to tell them. When they read this they’ll probably be glaring at the computer screen. *Gulps* It’s for major items that stick out like rope, first aid kits, and yeah MooMoo Milk along with the rare candy (Poke balls, potions, full heals, etc). The stuff you would find in the bag of the character on the game except maybe the bicycle. I don’t get how that’s able to fit in a bag. I guess it’s foldable.

8. An odd one but eh, I feel like giving my character a PokeGear, are the radio stations in Johto all run by Team Aqua (since they do have contorl of GoldenRod) or are there some underground ones? Also would Team Aqua be trying to brainwash people with this great resource or are they so confident that no one will defy them that they see no need?

The radio stations are down right now unless the bad guys need to make a threatening announcement of some sort. As for the civilians, they keep them in check and if that particular area has a lot of possible rebels, then they’ll be on house arrest or secured in some kind of cell. If they’re really rowdy then they’re beaten and shown as examples when they rebel. All Archie wants to do is bring on expanding the ocean and until the go ahead is given, he is having his grunts and admins keep the people in check as well as trying to hold back the rebels. As for Giovanni, Maxie, and Cyrus, they definitely aren’t as lenient.

9. Something I'm planning on doing later on in the rpg and something for you to consider. I'm guessing a lot of people have gone missing during the take over, right? Would it be possible to find some trapped in Pokémon form and have the challenge of figuring out who they are?

That definitely would add more to the role play. Yeah sure and I could make a few missions out of it because someone is going to have to find Bill. (Darn, wasn’t supposed to reveal that.) XD

I’ll say this, creative thoughts like this I will allow because you guys are actually thinking and pondering on making this a real good role play (hopefully that’s the case and not to power play). Back to the embargo thing, I’ll change my mind and let that in. All aforementioned things about the attacks apply to the good side as well so everyone is open to using them. If power playing gets too then all the effects of moves such as embargo, thief, knock off and whatever others will be canceled out for the remainder of the role play. Just can't use the foresight thing.

is it ok if my character in his history (due to traumatic events) got taken over by the vindi crystal he found for a couple of weeks which made some of the pokemon's personality traits infuse with his own to form a distinct new persona?

Yeah, that should be fine.

Well I'm still making my sign-ups but here some questions (hopefully they haven't be answered yet XD).

Alright, let's say that someone found a Vindi that happen to be a trained pokemon before it turned into a crystal. Would that pokemon be less like untrained wild pokemon? If that pokemon has given different name other than it species name, would it still respond to that or will it only work if the person knows its nickname? If by some strange unusual coincidence that train pokemon were to met its previous trainer or a friend (maybe even its lover) would that make the pokemon harder to control, more likely to be overcome by the pokemon emotions?

Cameron Oakley

For the first question: Not really, if it was a trained Pokémon and you weren't its original trainer, it most likely wouldn't listen to you because it doesn't know you. The disappearances started 10 years ago so most likely even a Pokémon you originally owned probably wouldn't immediately recognize you.

Second question: The specie name only until the Pokémon has become attached to you. You can still give it a nickname, but the crysta probablyl won't respond.

Third question: It's a possibility, but it has been 10 years. Unless someone has lost a Vindex recently then most likely the Pokémon wouldn't remember much of it. If it were to happen though, the human mind probably would become more susceptible at the first sign of tiredness.

Thanks but something else just came to mind.

I'm pretty sure Vindi have genders since mention breeding: can the people turned into pokemon of a different gender of themselves? If yes, let's say a male human were to turned into a his Vindi which is a female Pikachu, would he take a form of a female pikachu (you know with the groove on its tail), a male one or have some different affect.

Wait, does that mean Will is more susceptible to his Aipom, since it used to be the Pokemon he loved and cared for as a child?

If the human is male and the Pokémon is female, fortunately or unfortunately lol, the male will become the female Pikachu. Not like gender's going to play a big roll unless someone is using an attract attack. ^_^ Oh boy, that will be hilarious.

Copygoo

Probably, but only for a short time, depending on if the Pokémon recalls him. If he still has Aipom (even directly after it had turned into a Vindex) then of course he wouldn't have that much of a problem with. Humans are most vulnerable with both wild Pokémon and Pokémon that belonged to other trainers that turned into Vindi as well as strong Vinidi because trainers have to train and practice in order to get strong enough to keep the Pokémon mentality/nature supressed for longer periods of time. A person can use a Vindex stone they just came across, but would most likely get tired faster because they haven't trained with that particular Vindex.

~Deity of Valleity~
Are Vindi with similar characteristics/natures to the owner easier to control?

Also, you mentioned that if the person blacks out whilst possessing the Vindi then the pokemon wins. However, does this mean that eventually the pokemon's mind will also become more tired over time as the trainer fights to take control like the pokemon did or will they just stay trapped forever until some strange technological/mystical intervention occurs?

I remember that you stated somthing about the Global tower being knowcked out in Johto.

Does this make any forms of communication (E-mail, Normal Mail) Nonexistent? I realise that Team Rocket/Aqua/Magma/Galaxy, can spy on any messages sent, and we can't use messenger pokemon because the Evil people would know they would belong to us.

How are se supposed to use communications?

Cameron Oakley

Mrmagius

In the event that does happen, the trainer is the one who will have to fight to gain control again. If they aren't mentally strong enough to get back in control then they will be trapped until they are able to, but this mostly applies when the Pokémon is awake. It'll be much easier to regain control and get back into your human form when the Pokémon has hopefully fallen asleep or is resting. The bad guys will eventually come up with a gizmo that will be able to interfere with Vindex transformation. Gosh, ya'll are making me reveal everything lol. Just kidding. ^_^

Moogles4ever

Oh the towers aren't knocked down or even damaged. They've shut down the radio stations unless they need to use it to make an announcement. As for normal communication phones are still available, but they are infrequently used due to possible interception of messages. The rebels will be using the few Pokémon they managed to take from Team Rocket to deliver messages. Also, a few members can transform into their Vindex for delivering and receiving messages.

The protagonists are attempting to set up a communication network that only they are able to access, but that won't come until later in the role play. Just as with trading Vindi. That will also come later in the role play where you will be able to trade with other factions across seas. When the time comes to find and rescue Bill, Lanette, and Bebe this will be allowed.

Since the radios are down (and not under watch because of that), would it be possible for a team such as yellow or emerald to have a set of radio headsets for communtication?

Lol, they are under watch, but not heavily. I think the Radio Tower is for broadcasting things like music. If you're referring to the radio (like a walkie talkie type thing), there are very few. Someone could end up finding the frequency they're using. The protagonists don't use telecommunications regularly; maybe once every three weeks. Using the lines too much could lead to a conversation getting caught. Until they are able to get back quite a bit of cities and towns, communication by phones, radios, and other electronic devices are kept to a minimum. Even messages delivered by regular Pokémon are kept to a minimum. Squads should be able to function on their own for the most part and messages are sent when there a major missions. The squads can also have a message board, possibly in the Pokémon Centers, in their secured areas where messages can be left for pick up.

I have a question...
Okay, are Vindex found when someone is mining, or are they just kinda all over the place, like normal Pokemon?

Cameron Oakley

JolteonShock

They're found all over, but a lot are found by those who are excavators. It's been ten (10) years so many are buried beneath dirt, rock, probably in trees, and most definitely at the bottom of the ocean. You might find one sitting in the open because wind or rain might've uncovered it, but majority of the time you won't come across one just sitting out in the open.

I have a question: When a person activates a Vindex, how does he turn into the pokemon? Is there a flash of light, or like in your sig do they morph into one? Or do we decide?

I was thinking along the lines of morphing.

This is more with the communication again XP

My SUB drive in my profile is a linkup to the Defender of Hoenn database (me assuming we had one)

So is communications still online via E-mail? We can't go to other continents because of the Problems but can we atleast connect to our own?

Cameron Oakley

Yes, everything is still operational. It's just like I said, they keep the communications low because of possible interception, but yeah, everything (telephone, video phone, radio, internet, e-mail, etc.) are still operational. It is possible for someone to hack into an account as well. ^_^ Hope that answered your question.

<<Squishy loves you!
Another question: Do people use their Vindex constantly? I mean do they, for example, use them to walk around, for fun, or just because they can? Or is it solely used in battle, like the Pokemon games?
Also, have you by chance read the Animorphs series? *pokes suspisiouly*
